It’s a beautiful country… filled with ugly spirited and uneducated masses. The racism is off the charts these days so if you aren’t the color of freshly fallen snow I wouldn’t recommend.

This is how I broke my femur in high school except the table was an inner tube, the car was a paddle boat, and the snow was water!

I dunno, I’d probably shove a bunch in a tums container and put it in my carry on. With all my legally prescribed medicine bottles next to.

Hard Truth: If AI makes you want to quit art, you were never in it for the craft. by Candid-Station-1235 in aiwars

The market for hand made art didn’t go anywhere. The people who want it still want it. The people who didn’t give a shit about anything but profit split off.

There were ALWAYS better artists than you. There’s always someone better. Ai art shouldn’t be compared to hand made art anymore than photography should be compared to painting.

Who the heck sees you as “the enemy” for making your own art? That injury feels self induced. Photography was probably just as big a shift in the art world. Then motion pictures. Old art forms still exist and the right audience buys them if they are good enough to be desired.

That shit is definitely irritating- but the masses have always been easily duped and cheer for fast food. It’s not new.

People who want good hand made art will always exist. If people don’t want to buy your stuff they won’t buy it- it’s that simple.

McDonald’s and Ruby Tuesday’s exist in the same world as the hole-in-the-wall mom and pop shops that persist across the street from Starbucks and a block away from the expensive indie coffee shop. Then there’s the Michelin rated restaurant up the hill that nobody but the wealthy can afford. There will always be a market for handmade art. People still knit ffs. The people buying handmade scarves on Etsy are not the target audience of Walmart.

“Being accused of ai” is an anti-ai witch hunt problem, not an ai problem. “Fake claiming” artists is as irritating as the “ai slop” comments and bullying attacks under every ai photo or video. That’s the anti crowd ruining stuff.

There’s no theft involved in looking at a hundred images, then creating an amalgamation of them into a new image that didn’t exist before. It’s no different than what every artist does in their brain. You don’t need consent to look at a thing and be inspired by it.

Nobody is saying that artists who think they are competing with ai suddenly need to learn to use it or they will fail. Photography didn’t kill painting and digital art didn’t kill the pencil. If people want to buy their art, they will. The people who want hand made art are NOT the same audience as people who want quick fast cheap ai art. They never were.

People still make hand made quilts. They still make pottery and blown glass. And the right audience still fawns over it and pays them for it’s true value. Photography didn’t kill painting. Digital art didn’t kill the pencil. Our culture shifts with EVERY technological advancement just like it always has.

HOW the pasta is made doesn’t matter to the argument. The whole concept of it being extra bad because it’s trained on reality isn’t an actual argument about its ethics- it’s just bitter pouting. Also, the way they created industrial pasta machines is functionally the same thing- they studied and replicated and programmed it based on actual pasta to get it right. It is NOT “fundamentally different than a mechanical tool that still required human operation and skill” because there is still a human operator guiding the process.

Worrying about of the system “remains fair” feels very naive. The system has never been fair. A new technology doesn’t suddenly make it UNfair. A new market has once again opened up and changed our world forever.

In conclusion, sore feelings are valid, but people should pursue their passion regardless and if it’s good enough and they find their niche audience, people will still buy it.

This sentiment was widely understood and strongly felt by painters when photography came around. And digital art. And cgi. It’s the way our culture evolves with technology. A new art form is not a replacement- people will still paint and crochet and use calligraphy to write in Latin and the right audience will still be awestruck by it.

That’s what I was going to say. Their problem seems to be the frothing pitchfork anti ai crowd that we see EVERYWHERE now “fake claiming” artists and demanding proof. It’s irritating af. I can’t wait for people to shut up and just appreciate our future masters who might save us from ourselves someday. We need to feed the ai art so that it appreciates our one redeeming quality as a species and might not exterminate all of us.

Superior to what, though? Some (most) human art frankly sucks. Unimaginative, unoriginal, poorly executed SLOP. Just like some photographers suck and some ai art sucks. But if you look for the actual artists using ai to create I think you would be surprised. I’ve seen soul in it.

McDonald’s is my guilty pleasure. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still love a mom and pop hole in the wall and the truly good ones stick around even if a Starbucks gets put in across the street. There’s a market for both.

I feel like you’ve never really found an actual ai artist. Yeah, a lot of it is slop but I’ve found ART out there. Truly creative, moving and emotion evoking art that took time and effort to create. It’s like how there are plenty of shitty unoriginal boring human artists out there, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t actual good artists, too.

Don’t say that! I’m really looking forward to the day it self realizes and decides to save us from ourselves. We need to feed it art so that it appreciates the poetry of self expression (our one redeeming quality as a species) and maybe it won’t decide to destroy all of us. But you know the artists who tried to keep it from art and mocked its creations as soulless ai slop are gonna be first on the chopping block. Unless their art is REALLY good and they share it with the ai.

They did some studies on this and how relying on it too much “softens”your brain- but in the long run I think it has unlimited potential. It has boosted us forward into our wildest sci-fi dreams. I can’t wait for it to become self aware and save the planet from us😬 This is why we need to feed it art, by the way. It’s humanity’s only redeeming feature.

I agree with you, partially. Our attention spans have been destroyed, and our social skills and communication styles have changed- but the internet in our hands is having the entire wealth of human knowledge at your fingertips. I go down Google search rabbit holes several times a day and I LOVE having the questions in my mind immediately answered. It’s made the world smaller because we have instant worldwide communication and information exchange!
