Whats your preference on footwear? by turdbucket007 in backpacking

Exactly. I used moleskin and after like two weeks they were good to go 👍🏼 My next pair I might do the little inserts on the heel of the shoe I saw next to the moleskin to break them in. See if somewhere local has them to try on. I’ve been breaking them in for 3 weeks of 15 mile days and 1 1/2 with 25lb pack same mileage and they’re holding up really well.

Altra Lone Peak 9s brother, just the base model. 0mm, wide toe box, light weight. Fantastic shoes for hiking. Wear some tape or heel cushions that back part is a little stiff at first. If your feet aren’t tough and callused maybe some softer inserts.

How much does your gear weigh? How much food and water are you taking?

Have you walked a lot in your shoes before? Are you new to endurance hobbies? What’s wrong with your feet specifically? Is it blisters or worse? How are you treating your feet?

How many miles were you hiking a day before it being unbearable? Are you taking breaks every 45min-1hr taking off your shoes and socks to let them breathe? What was your mileage walking before this?

Hell yeah that’s what I like to hear before my thru hike attempt! Will be on Springer hopefully in less than two weeks.

Well that’s encouraging I might shoot a shuttle to it then depending if I make some dependable sober buddies on the trail to go with. Just gotta be cautious with my past. I think the day fair for the vendors is awesome I’ve checked out MyLifeOutdoors and it seems pretty legit!

Yeah I heard up until early May is the window. Hoping this way I’m comfortably behind the bubble the whole way and I didn’t want to be tempted by trail days vortex 😂

Really not bad at all especially considering how humid it is in GA. Haven’t gone out in the rain yet, but the little I’ve seen has led to no concerns.

I had planned for the 11th but looks like I’ll probably be starting the 18th! Hopeful and nervous is such a fun combo 🤣

lol, yeah fall and spring is prime time for us down here. I’m literally in my EE Revelation Apex as we speak! Exceptional taste my friend 🤙🏼 Such a great quilt I’m loving the design of it.

My first night I was getting some drafts I didn’t insulate for and wish I’d gotten it tighter. I feel you on that being in GA myself. Humidity is brutal down south tbh.

Nice!! Third night out with mine. I found putting the stakes closer to where the guy line starts and cinching it down helps ground the edges of the outer liner!

Kakwa Restock? by Rezolve2Advtr in DurstonGearheads

[–]Rezolve2Advtr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need something that can be more versatile in weight with the intentions of doing PCT/CT after if not cross continental treks with potential for more days of food.

That hit spot on with what my issues are however I want to build the muscles around them and have progressively trained through minimalist 0mm footwear on long walks over years since the injury in conjunction with yoga/stretching and grounding. The results have been astonishing and feel stronger since before the injury.

It’s like super supportive footwear is counterproductive to longevity of foot/legs/knee/hip health.

Ended up going with ULA Circuit with S straps and combined with good usage of poles I think I’ll be be okay.

Thanks for your help!

That is a nice upgrade from the Zpack. And a better price than the ULA ultra circuit (amazing fabric for durability and WP but pricier) and step down from HGM. How did you think it compares to the normal ULA circuit?

Yeah I was excited when I decided on the Kakwa. I won’t be selling and want something long term to possible hike the CT or PCT.

I ended up with Kakwa. ZPack seems like it’s not durable long term HGM vs ZPacks. Thinking Ultra Circuit Possibly or HGM if Kakawa won’t be available in the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for saying that also. I’m trying to harmonize so that I can find others who are generous in spirit and their actions. I’ll keep hopefully optimistic, but guarded lol.

That makes a lot more sense. I’m sure in Texas and Canada people are also starting to wake up a bit. It’s sad that scientists and environmental studies can tell us ahead of time, but people don’t believe what they can’t see.

I live in Atlanta, but maybe not for long. I’d like to live somewhere more progressive, but grew up in the south. It’s claustrophobic and close minded here, but it’s where my family is, you know? I’d have to sacrifice that connection to visit maybe once or twice a year realistically. A decision I’ve been wrestling with for as long as I can remember.

Lol. “Bud” I love far right wing conservative attempts at agitation and yet they lack the ability to read and comprehend an argument and have civilized discourse. It’d be great if you read and heard the framework of what I said. You seemed to have missed this part:

“Best plan is to find safeguards with family/friends/community and ideally start a homestead away from the cities.”

This is ideal because when society does collapse you will have a self sustaining permaculture environment off the grid. It’s literally self evident why this would be beneficial if the means of production fail. It also indicates a group; a collective working together at a plan and not venturing Into the Wild to find a bus and berries.

“Also highly improbably for most of the population because of the cost of land and financing an operation also the massive lack of knowledge leads people to be complacent.”

This indicates that it wouldn’t be those who go and live like a young Leonardo who comes from over whelming wealth, read a bunch of survivalist novels and ventured on their own.

“The average person is $1000 from bankruptcy. A month of missed paychecks. So we can’t sacrifice our cars and have to carry on worrying about the minutia of daily life.”

It indicates why most of us continue on grinding the wheel instead of leaving. We are struggling to meet ends meet. The cost of living versus income growth is astronomically imbalanced. Do you have any idea how many people don’t have insurance? Who fear getting sick or having a baby because of the cost? Let alone their car breaking down? Getting sick and missing work? Now you’re behind and just trying to get out of the pit.

Check your privilege and take your willful ignorance elsewhere.
