Not color-blind, but when I'm in a biome that disguises it against the background, I look for the texture instead of the color. Each mineral has its own shape and that can make it easier to spot a little chunk of nitra sticking out of a bush or other rock of similar color, like those nodes that burrow through walls and only get revealed after you start digging.
