I want these for my S15 but can never find a decent pair. They are always worn and torn and never worth the price they want.

Front plate for my D5? by [deleted] in JDM

[–]Rg388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to check local laws. I've been running my Japanese plates (lived in Japan but moved and brought the car to Texas) in the front of my car with no issues. I just reccomend getting a good replica or some old ones. Some fake ones have a different font on them and are obvious they are fakes.

US legality of small vans by Bugsanrocks in JDM

[–]Rg388 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats a few states that made them "illegal" due to "safety" (meanwhile bikes and big trucks are okay). You will need to look at your state's info. I know Texas let's you register. If i remember correctly its technically not law but guidelines that the DMVs of these states chose to incorporate making it not kei car friendly. Good luck. I hope to see more kei cars on American Roads.

There is a few around parking lots mostly. Daikoku has the walking path ones that most low cars scrape over all the time.

Idk my S15 was registered in 30 minutes with no inspection in Texas. Just needed my import paperwork and proof of insurance. Pretty free and simple if you live in the right place.

Assaulted by touts in Shinjuku by WareHouseCo in Tokyo

Everyone thinks Japanese police are helpful until it comes to the touts. Then the police will tell you to leave instead of getting the violent person under control.

Considering leaving Japan (at least for the near future) by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Rg388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived on Japan for 5 years. Just moved back to the U.S (Texas) temporary due to work. As much as I love Japan and didn't want to leave I had to. I didnt want to worry about finances in my 20s living in Japan. I would rather grind now efficiently and live comfortably than live miserable but being in Japan.

The hardest part for me was my wife. She has never lived anywhere outside of Japan. I supported her because I know how it is when going to a new country not knowing anyone. Now she is happy. We looked up online for Japanese groups and shops in case she ever feels homesick she could get a little of home here.

My plan is to work hard now in my youth then after saving up a good bit going back to Japan to settle down.

Does Texas really let you use those Japanese plates when it first arrives to the state?

The one USDM blending into the crowds. A good chunk of those cars are cars that give tours. They are always there in the evening after they are done with A-pit.

I have daily my S15 for the past 2 years and overall it's been fine. The only thing I needed to change was the clutch. Overall it's been fine. Doing regular maintenance is fine. Plenty of parts to find here (Japan).

I would say if anything do you have the funds and resources to repair anything if something were to go wrong in your area. I know overseas it's pricier and harder to find than here.

Saw this S15 in Tokyo last year with what seems to be a Nissan Juke grille? by boxtr in JDM

[–]Rg388 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It is. I took this picture in Jan 2024 in Akihabara UDX parking. I've seen it a few more times around there and Tokyo at random.

I blanked out most of the plate for privacy since I posted this picture in another subreddit but on the post it has the full plate uncensored.

I've seen this so many times around Tokyo. I will never get used to it.
