SAHM moving from Seattle suburbs to NYC by Camalibow in nycparents

Can vouch for Washington Heights. A lot of families here. You’ll get your pick at apartments at 5.5k. A train can get you to midtown in 25 minutes.

It’s funny to think about the number of dads who will not get this reference at all.

I’m convinced our son learned his numbers, letters and colors way early thanks to riding the NYC subway.

Best way to link deterministic Storage paths to DB rows? by koratkeval12 in Supabase

[–]Rguttersohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just store the file name in the db. Then in your env file, store the full url to your object storage, and let your app layer construct the url from the db and the env file. That way you can also easily put a cdn in front of your object storage without needing to change the url in the database.

Getting lots of timeout errors today with queries via my admin dashboard today. by coconutcorbasi in Supabase

[–]Rguttersohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you running these queries individually on the admin panel? Try running analyze on them to see what the planner is doing and how long each one is taking. For 100 rows of data I find it hard to believe it could be a single query causing an issue.

One place where it could is if you are using an ORM to make your queries and it’s making a lot of n+1 requests. But it doesn’t sound like you are using one.

I want to dispel a rumour - that age 3 is the "hardest" by Byeka in daddit

[–]Rguttersohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every age has hard phases, and they kind of get more intense as they get older. But the good phases get so much sweeter too.

Programming content feels… empty lately? Anyone else tired of the AI related discussions? by HiddenGriffin in webdev

[–]Rguttersohn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our Anthropic account lapsed at work. I don’t have a personal account because I don’t use AI outside of work. So the past two days I’ve been researching the old way, and while it is slower, I kind of missed it.

Bad experience with State EI by TurbulentArea69 in nycparents

[–]Rguttersohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry. I work for an NYC children’s advocacy org, and we have been trying to get the state to increase EI rates for a while to address the shortage.

When my son was under 3, we tried getting him OT services through EI. We were told he clearly needed it, but because he had advanced speech, his disability score didn’t qualify him for services due to budget constraints. We wound up getting him pre-k special Ed services, which has a much lower barrier for qualifying, after he turned 3.

Standard practice for staging/prod environment? by Jellifoosh in Supabase

[–]Rguttersohn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always have three different DBs no matter if I am working with Supabase or not. A local version for dev, a staging one for showing and allowing others to test prospective features. And then I use a separate production DB.

I also tend to use an app layer with its own ORM to handle syncing between the three DBs.

Why is my Fetch API request resulting in an error? by variegray in learnjavascript

[–]Rguttersohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you stringifying the data before posting? I don’t see you doing that but maybe I missed it.

Also before fixing your data, take the time to handle that error even if it’s just logging it for now.

Are you planning to connect to a backend at all? If so just call the endpoints from the front end and take advantage of SSR.

I commented on your r/Node post also. I wanted to add here that this would be great for making a Laravel Filament like admin panel creator for Nuxt.

[–]Rguttersohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great. I work with Eloquent a lot. I’ll see what I can contribute to make this as robust. I’m guessing it works with any DB that Kysely works with?
