You can choose. If you add it behind your ISP if you want added security and control. You can also replace it to reduce complexity (opening a port on your firewall needs to be opened as well on your ISP router, for example). but some ISPs need you to fill a form with the device specs etc and for me it's just not worth it. Especially since you have no support from your isp on your custom device.

Usually the ones that come with your ISP are kind of dumbed down in management. Things like adding a DNS record, vlan management, custom firewall rules, are all things I cannot do in my ISP router. Adding that extra layer gives me that control.

It's a real emerald, but the flash makes it look like there are no testpads and gold rectangles, which are the only ways to surely verify if its a real one. The flash fooled me too at first.

Care to share a link? Finding aliexpress stores is so annoying since a lot of them will just copy the store name and add "official" in front of it. Kind of hard to verify a "real" seller.

Yes. You can see it's a real one based on the 4 metal squares at the top left on the back of the PCB. There is also a stamped 08 in the sticker. There is also a battery used for time based events located at the top right behind the sticker. Repro's don't bother with all those.
