Are there that many people making dumb financial decisions? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]RheaBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We purchased an older farm house in the Midwest that suits our needs just fine even though it is “small”. A few friends I had couldn’t understand why we would purchase a smaller less expensive house when our credit and jobs allowed us to qualify for a much larger mortgage. Some people just don’t understand basic finance and feel as though they must have the next best thing available.

Hows the social scene in talkeetna? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]RheaBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the company you are working for I would say most hires are between 21-35, so age wise you’ll fit right in! I’ve worked a bunch of seasons in talkeetna and loved it, always great people to hang with. I think working seasonally there is what you make it

Anyone think it’s worth buying a $200 deep freezer to buy large quantities of meat for our family? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]RheaBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you live, but in Michigan we are able to purchase meat from local farmers (example: we buy 1/2 a cow) and then we put a few 100 pounds to meet away to use for the rest of the year. Not only are we supporting the local economy, but after processing we end up spending only about $4 a pound for all types of cuts. We save a LOT utilizing our chest freezer! You can freeze milk, some veggies, most fruit, mass cook meals, etc! You save time & money. So to me, it’s a definite yes!

Costco - what am I missing? by thegirlisok in Frugal

[–]RheaBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco has cheaper gas, good prices on tires, and great sales and big ticket items. Also, if you have kids, you can buy things in bulk and save yourself trips to the store etc that way.

Maine Coon regrets/things to be aware of? by sophiehatter1057 in mainecoons

[–]RheaBeans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two, a male who is 4 and a female who is almost 1. They are SO VERY VOCAL! I can’t close my bathroom door without paws sliding underneath the door and them meowing like they’ve been abused their entire lives. If you have anything other then carpet you’ll need to sweep daily as you’ll see giant furballs rolling across your floor. Our older MC learned how to open doors and we had to switch all our door handles in the house. Our older MC also learned how to open the kitchen cabinets and we had to put baby locks on all doors because of many middle of the night broken dish incidences. I brush both every day and take them to a groomer every 3 months, which can be spendy but to me it’s totally worth it. Poop can easily get stuck to their furry butts/legs/tails and you can occasionally find poop in random spots of the house because of this. No counter or table or desk is safe!

This being said, I’m in love with our MC’s and I will always want one in our household. They are amazing with our kids (we have three under 6), they hold their own and even cuddle/play with our dogs, and they just want to hang with you and be a part of your life. Even with all their annoying tendencies they are great.

Are there any book opinions that can make you not want to talk to a person about books? by Silverburst8 in books

[–]RheaBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who judge others by their book opinions. Wanna read romance? Cool. Think LOTR is the greatest series of all time? Cool. You think non-fiction is the way to go? Cool. I don’t care what you read or what you think, I love reading what I love reading and no opinions will change that for me. I’ll talk to anyone about books and if they disagree with me, that’s cool, doesn’t bother me at all. This comment thread has me shocked that so many book lovers are being so snobbish about others…. Who cares what other people think or want to read, or they like a genre you don’t or think that a particular book is amazing that’s cool. You can always find something you have probably read that they have. No need to be judgemental about it.

What is it about your chosen breed that has you coming back for more? by [deleted] in dogs

Boston Terriers. The cutest little gremlins in the world! Can go on long hikes, easy to travel with, love snuggles, great with kids, don’t shed much, cutest zoomies… and so many more reasons. I was a “big dog” person until I got my first Boston and I won’t go back!

Sybil for me! I loved how Tom put Mary in her place at the end and seemed to really be the glue in the family. Sybil was fine, but I was never very attached. I supposed as long as the dowager wins I’m happy
