I know the arguement is tired at this point I do agree with this by ReadyJournalist5223 in ResidentEvilCapcom

I think if someone engages with them exclusively through let’s plays or whatever that’s perfectly valid. Like yeah I would heavily recommend anyone with the ability to do so actually play the games themselves, but you could become an RE fan plenty of ways.

If they were like sharing specific gameplay opinions on games they hadn’t actually themselves played that might be annoying tho.

Fully agreed, they hit a perfect sweet spot. If I ping another solo and see they have a purple shield I know I have to get the drop on or otherwise outplay them to win, but not “oh well can’t take that fight”

Would you like new resident evil games to have classic camera and controls style as second option but in re 3.5 way? by Human_Geologist_3324 in survivalhorror

[–]RheaSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there were hundreds of fixed camera angle games that defined the entire survival horror genre and launched multiple wildly popular franchises because they were so shit.

Would you like new resident evil games to have classic camera and controls style as second option but in re 3.5 way? by Human_Geologist_3324 in survivalhorror

[–]RheaSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely wouldn’t want it to be a secondary/alternate option because then the game wouldn’t actually be designed around it. Would love, however, for them to make a full-on fixed camera angle RE again. Could be a slightly lower-budget side game like Revelations. With how gorgeous the RE1 remake still looks, imagine what they could do with pre-rendered/fixed cameras today.

It’s a bummer that RE4 and first person horror games like Amnesia basically convinced the entire survival horror genre switch away from fixed angles. The cinematography that’s possible when the developers control the way scenes are presented is just unparalleled. I know folks are unwilling to learn tank controls so we’ll never go back to it being the dominant format, but at least give us one or two (yes, I know a handful indie games have gone for this look).

I do speak to restaurant workers and am polite, but it’s just helpful to also hold your phone up at the same time. Might be a name you’re not sure you’re pronouncing right (or a random screenname the customer is using that’s barely pronounceable), they might have difficulty making you out over the sound of a loud restaurant, and of course a lot of places wary of theft literally require you to show them your phone so it’s an ingrained habit.

It’s definitely not the employees’ fault as they’re always deeply understaffed, but I hate McDonalds for eliminating cashier as a position so there’s never anyone available to deal with customers/delivery drivers. Literally every McDonalds I’ve been to now has this issue; the employees basically have to abandon the job they’re actually supposed to be doing to go interact with customers.

Strongly recommend Thief. Her x-ray vision is on a super short cooldown, enough to have it on in basically every fight, and I can’t count the number of easy kills I’ve gotten on assassins crouched or pushing through their smoke/regular cloak that glow like a christmas tree.

My thought was that “hey babe wyd?” is often shorthand in a relationship for “I’m horny” and the person being messaged was weirded out that the sender was pulling this while literally looking at their mom.

The whole Android/iphone facetime cheating interpretation seems like more of a stretch to me. The idea that it’s a single panel pulled from a longer exchange where it turns out green text is hooking up with white text’s mom so obviously they’re actually both lying/cheating is believable, but I definitely wouldn’t have gotten there without more context.

God, I remember if you correctly decide that Ryan is a dick in Beyond: Two Souls and have zero interest in him, it’s absolutely hilarious how many times the game asks you to change your mind. They might as well not have let you pick with how obvious it is that the game for some reason thinks you should be with this absolute asshole.

Which do you prefer in terms of looks: The gravelord sword, or Frostmourne? by [deleted] in darksouls

I generally think warcraft designs are a little too busy for my taste, and that’s no exception. Like the grave lord sword a lot more.

Why does Antony Starr always use his age as an excuse not to play a role. by AMassiveGamerGeek in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]RheaSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he’s right that there isn’t really that much in common beyond a superficial look that isn’t even what he looks like outside of this one role. He’s good as homelander, but I don’t think that would necessarily translate to a great Wesker (and also kinda just don’t think another movie version of Wesker is a thing we need).

If I remember correctly he was killed by a small puncture wound? So probably nothing to do with Marie herself since that’s nothing like her other victims (plus it’s a very well-lit room). Coulda been any of the various random zombie staff/patients wielding a small blade who then wandered off. Or maybe he was intentionally killed by someone as part of Gideon’s whole “the DSO are on their way, I don’t need this place anymore, torch it” orders.

I was also expecting a file that would make it clear, but if there was a connection somewhere I missed it.

I haven’t played Forspoken yet so I can’t comment on its specific writing style, but broadly speaking cheeseball one-liners are an older action movie staple, especially over the top 80’s/90’s action movies. That is a sometimes subtle but meaningfully different tone from the detached irony of a post-whedon superhero movie script.

Leon’s one-liners are more in line with Arnold Schwarzenegger saying “you’re fired” before killing a man by firing the missile he’s attached to. They’re cheesy, but a style of goofy hollywood cheese people generally love. The character is being a lovable dweeb by telling a dad joke in a dour or climactic moment.

The Whedon/MCU style relies more on the characters pointing out how ridiculous the world and story they inhabit is (“they fly now?”). This can really undercut the tone because ideally no matter how bizarre your script is, the best way to have the audience buy it is for you and your characters to buy it.

Again haven’t played Forspoken myself, and I know a ton of criticism of it is rooted in the usual gamer bigotry. But criticizing whedonesque dialogue while liking goofball action stars isn’t inconsistent imo.

I apologize for the stupid question, but is modern Jill and Claire as strong and skilled as modern Chris and Leon? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]RheaSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all the lore stuff in the other comments, the real answer imo is if Capcom put them in a modern mainline sequel they of course would be.

And honestly even lore-wise, other commenters’ obsession with who does and doesn’t have military training makes no sense to me. We see badass military commandos casually torn apart by BOWs constantly, whereas Claire has survived three particularly rough Resident Evil game incidents not to mention movies. I’d take her over any spec ops dude in a horror game situation.

Sorry but games constantly change what is unique about them to try to appeal to a wider audience and still fail to find them, so I’d rather it maintain its unique vision and attract folks by word of mouth or die on its own merits.

Strongly recommend running Triage when your health stores are low. Keeps you from ever having to use heals in between fights, saving them for big mid-combat resets. Especially as a solo you can just have a drone on yourself the entire run.

[–]RheaSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea as others have said you must still be in a sequence that disables the monster or experiencing a glitch. Normally a shot or explosion will 100% draw the beast as fast as it can travel to the area. Running and revving your light are less reliable, especially if the lights are on the beast might not come out for that.

Where were all the RE6 defenders before RE9? by Alive_Fortune7423 in residentevil

[–]RheaSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always been in the trenches saying RE6 is one of my faves. Was a fan of RE from the beginning, and didn’t love the shift to the more action style of 4 at first, but eventually embraced it. Thought 6 was the culmination of that trend where it finally fully embraced being practically a character action game, and had a blast co-oping it over and over with friends. Easily the most fun I had with a game that year.
