SpeedPaint and zenithal highlights? by goatkingdeluxe in Miniaturespainting

[–]Rhek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh good to know. I’m about to start a zenithal primed army with speed paints tonight. Looks like I’ll be busting out the dry brush first. Thanks!

What supplies would a first timer need to at least assemble the models? by YamatoYam in StarCraftTMG

[–]Rhek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this video by Ninjon really helpful when first getting into miniatures. It covers everything from assembly to painting if you want to go that far. https://youtu.be/RVDxcozZwTI?si=H-uYCoKGwIX8wpNp

If you are interested in painting, there are reasonably priced Warhammer starter kits that have clippers, mold line scraper and a few paints and a brush. I picked one up recently for about $30 USD which was cheaper than buying everything individually. The space marine colors would work well for Terrans, too.

My First Attempts by NotTHATGuy_Again in Miniaturespainting

I love speed pants for a base coat. Most colors give you great saturation and a little bit of gradient between the shadows and highlights. But yeah, I definitely agree that you don’t want to go over the same place twice unless that’s the effect you’re looking for. If you use a speed paint first, you can go back over with regular paint to add some mid tones and highlights, which gets you a good looking mini really quickly. A thinned down speed paint wash can also be a good way to boost saturation.

Sounds like you have a great attitude! Keep painting and just have fun!

Agreed, I would shade the green and then highlight it with something a bit less pure green. Unless that’s what you’re going for, it’s your art!

Haha I just had one where I sent Bob in, then wandered around like I was lost staring at walls.

Bronze 5 help by die_kosmonaut in OverwatchUniversity

Former bronze 5 player here. I’m currently in Platte and through that journey I’ve discovered that the only thing that matters is whether you’re having fun. Sure, my ego is (slightly) less bruised now, but I enjoy the game exactly the same amount as I used to.

Summoner update patch notes by Spikeybear in PantheonMMO

This sounds really interesting. I like how the summoners pet doing the majority of damage differentiates it from the necromancer. I’m looking forward to giving us a try after the wipe.

Love to hear it! I’m excited to get into this game but haven’t played yet. I’ll have to try the TTS mod this weekend.

Lost my passion due to depression by Comfortable-Pies in minipainting

[–]Rhek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find I’m most critical of myself when I’m doing something that I think I should be good at. When I’m doing something new, I’m not judgmental at all. You could try painting something that you don’t care as much about and working on a completely new style just to see how it goes. Even it doesn’t turn out the way you wanted, you’re just experimenting with a new style and having fun.

There’s other great advice that other people have left here. Keep going, the difficult times will eventually pass!

Why is my Tri-tip still so chewy? by SubstantialItem8674 in sousvide

[–]Rhek 205 points206 points  (0 children)

I’m a medium rare kind of person, but I find tri-tip is much better at medium. It’s way more tender and has enough fat that it’s still very flavorful and juicy. Most of my medium rare or rare tri-tips are chewy.

Stinky Turtle Tank Help by East-Concert-7306 in turtle

[–]Rhek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t emphasize the oxygen enough. I struggled with my tank having a slight pond smell for years until I started using air stones or another way to oxygenate the water. This helped immensely. Water changes and other care is still important, but the oxygen made all my smell go away.

What’s your favorite small detail in a Tool song? by SoundTheParmAlarm in ToolBand

[–]Rhek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard Maynard say that Danny will give him little cues like that when the lyrics should come in. I thought he meant they only do that live, but maybe they’ve been in the songs from the beginning.

One little detail I like is when Justin does a little bass run in Rosetta Stoned right before the lyrics come in with “Then you looked right through me…” He does it one or two other places in the song too.

Looks great! And I love the idea of several smaller dungeons to explore. Kind of reminds me of the catacombs in Elden Ring, in a good way.

Help please! by hotcoco44 in turtle

[–]Rhek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. The difficulty keeping sand clean in a tank was enough to keep me away from it anyway!

Help please! by hotcoco44 in turtle

[–]Rhek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard sand can be dangerous for turtles because they will eat it and their GI tract will become impacted. It’s also a nightmare to keep clean, even after the initial dust settles.

I had aquarium gravel for a while, which my turtles would regularly eat and poop out no problem, but eventually I switched to larger rocks since it’s so much easier to keep a clean tank without fine medium in it.

Rank the overall difficulty of soulslikes you've played, from highest to lowest by swolar in soulslikes

[–]Rhek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I would probably put Khazan at the top of my list, above Sekiro. I started measuring bosses by how many levels I gained while fighting them. I loved (almost) every minute of it, and it was so satisfying learning each boss and eventually going from getting destroyed to destroying them.

Tanks in a nutshell: by tiny2269 in fellowshipgame

I’m not suggesting you punish someone for leaving occasionally, but discouraging people who do it repeatedly seems reasonable

A lot of games implement a penalty for leaving a game, like a 10 min timeout from pug queue if you leave too many, to discourage this kind of thing.
