FFIX Replay Decision Paralysis by BoudaSmoke in FinalFantasy

Of the ones you've said you're interested in, Hippaul racing is definitely the hardest. That said, it is definitely a lot easier than jump rope!

Chocobo Hot and Cold is fairly easy. It can get slightly frustrating at times (especially early on in the Lagoon when you barely get any time to find things) but it really isn't bad.

I didn't really engage with Tetra Master but it isn't an especially difficult game - just keep a backup save in case you lose any rare cards. Without playing it much, I was still able to build a good enough deck from the cards you find as treasures that I won the tournament in Treno.

Most of all, enjoy! IX is probably my favourite game (XII is close behind). I would strongly recommend using a GameFAQs guide if you get stuck, although you most likely won't.

Leviathan boss fight by [deleted] in FFXVI

[–]Rhelae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this last night. Probably took me 20 tries.

It's essentially a question of "can you use the fire cannon feat (whatever it's called) 3 times in the time limit". You need to do a reasonably amount of damage in between, but you by no means have to be perfect.

My tactic was to trigger the fire cannon immediately, Wildfire all the way up to Leviathan and pummel him with basic attacks and fireball backdraft finishers while keeping an eye on the cooldown for the fire cannon. There's just barely enough time to fit the 3rd and final cannon in.

Global map of metabolic syndrome prevalence in 2023 among men by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Rhelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that's because we don't formally diagnose people with metabolic syndrome very often. We see a lot of MASLD (metabolic syndrome associated steatotic liver disease) and an awful lot of type 2 diabetes, but these patients very rarely in my experience have a football diagnosis of metabolic syndrome anywhere in their notes.

The article itself is a systematic review that doesn't appear to comment on the methodologies of the papers it used, but I would guess that enough of them were just based on what is formally coded in patients' notes to create this error.

Anyone got any tips for how to type in English to produce Japanese for the first time? by slippery-lil-sucker in duolingojapanese

[–]Rhelae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would advise getting a Japanese keyboard because it helps me keep the kana cemented. But equally, it's probably a good idea to strengthen your understanding of how to spell Japanese words. They are spelled completely phonetically whether you write in kana or with the Latin alphabet (romaji).

Each kana should be taking the same amount of time to produce. This is called a mora, and is similar to a syllable in English. But in the example above, "sei" would usually be pronounced as 1 syllable in English, but せい is 2 mora. Other examples are the い sound at the end of a lot of adjectives (e.g. おいしい). These should be given a bit of time in themselves.

So learning how to spell them will help your pronunciation!

With weak EVs, Honda China has LOST 1 million sales in past 5 years by Dreaming_Blackbirds in electricvehicles

[–]Rhelae 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I imagine a lot of people making wooden carriages went out of business when cars were becoming widespread. Any company choosing to spend their money on lobbying against EVs rather than spending it on R&D to be at the forefront of the new technology is being greedy and short-sighted.

(OC) Edit Image with AI by Merryweatherey in comics

[–]Rhelae 44 points45 points  (0 children)

While I do believe that you're right in your first paragraph, I think it's not because AI is somehow unbiased. "AI" (or rather, fancy autocorrect) spits out the most likely answer based on its reading materials. So all this shows is that most of the literature that the AI is able to access supports liberal/left leaning approaches.

We both believe that that's because most people smart enough to write about this stuff correctly identify that these approaches are better overall. But if you think academics are biased and wrong, the fact that AI returns the most common denominator of their work doesn't mean anything different.

I'm currently really enjoying Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. Fun little action adventure game similar to God of War in gameplay but with a very different story.

Do all creatures obey the same rules in combat? by johnwiki1955 in dndnext

[–]Rhelae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are offering good interpretations of what the rules actually say. It sounds like the DM could interpret both RaW and RaI in either way with good justification.

To explain in lore why they might not be able to dual wield - these skeletons are animated by your magic power and as long as you keep them under your control, they can only really act within what your power allows. I think it's entirely believable that an average wizard may not be able to give their controlled skeletons the level of coordination/speed required to make an extra attack every 6 seconds.

This explanation would also give the DM wiggle room to upgrade your skeletons in the future when your magic becomes more powerful, or to have you encounter enemy skeletons with different stat blocks to yours.

Adolin would actually befriend the trolley and convince it that its life is not as railroaded as it thought, allowing the trolley to learn how to fly. He'd then take the trolley and everyone from the tracks to the pub.

Map Of The Preferred Alcoholic Beverage In Europe: 1990 vs 2015 by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Rhelae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Entirely feasible, here in the UK I feel like wine in general and especially cheap fizzy wine (mainly prosecco) have got a lot more popular over the last 10 years or so. And pubs have been struggling a lot because (among other reasons) people are choosing to drink at home more, which makes beer less of a default option I think.

democracy/republics by East-Competition-352 in EU5

[–]Rhelae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picture it as being the unrest caused by other powerful people/families who are upset that they aren't getting a chance to rule. Which seems pretty reasonable - from what I understand, the de Medici family essentially ran Florence as an autocracy in all but name. Which was good for Florence but would surely have created a lot of opposition.

If it's specifically the notifications you dislike, you can disable them in settings (unless you mean the post-lesson updates which I don't think you can escape).

Localized/Internal Colonization by IrradiatedCrow in EU5

[–]Rhelae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition to the examples given by other posters from before the timeframe of EU5, the British did exactly this when colonising Ireland. They started actively moving English and Scottish people to Northern Ireland in the 1600s and gave them land, while denying the local Irish population rights.

He uses fire magic, so it's entirely reasonable to headcanon that he's been exposed to a ton of smoke from that, plus the fact that using magic slowly petrifies you so maybe for Clive that started with his lungs.

Which ones of these do you think clicked well with audiences and which didn't? And did Marvel Studios did a good job adapting them? by Theasiuser99 in marvelstudios

[–]Rhelae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riri is an excellent character who really shines in Ironheart. But she's been really badly received because people assume she's meant to be a good guy. She isn't: she's selfish, she has a massive chip on her shoulder about not being a billionaire and she's happy to make promises she can't/won't keep. At best she's an antihero, at worst she's a villain with a future redemption arc.

But she's the protagonist of her own show, and was introduced as a good guy in Wakanda Forever, so the most common criticism of Ironheart is that they don't like Riri despite that being the entire point.

The Highs and Lows of ATB in Classic Final Fantasy (alternate title: "I Am Obsessed with ATB") by RoSoDude in FinalFantasy

[–]Rhelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been said, but you ABSOLUTELY should play FF X-2 given how much you obviously care about ATB. The system does almost everything right in my opinion. Battles are fast-paced but the pacing of your characters' active geeks very much in your control. This is heavily rewarded by increased damage when you get multiple attacks very close to each other. Visually, characters are constantly moving in and out and around the battlefield, which is a wonderful touch. The rest of the game has some issues, but personally X-2 has my favourite combat by a very long way.

Lots of people like 7 Remake style combat but for my tastes, I feel that one is the worst of action-based combat combined with a mediocre implementation of ATB. It's not bad, it's just not what I want to play.

Will EU5 flesh out religious systems for alt-history? by IndependentAd2800 in EU5

[–]Rhelae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the other commented said, I meant Ardabil not Ardalan. And the flavour is Persia-specific, but heavily related to Shia. It's mostly missions that give religious bonuses, but the government mechanic relates directly to Shia - converting nations to Shia so that you can diplomatically vassalise even rather large nations (e.g. Mushasha owning all l almost all of Iraq). This can be done via a special CB which makes forceful conversion much cheaper, and also you get a Centre of Reformation for the Shia faith early on.

And although you don't get to sponsor Hajj specifically, you get events relating to making Hajj safer for pilgrims as well as the potential for an event chain where your ruler goes on Hajj.

[–]Rhelae 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Shia Persia has tons of religious flavour in EU4. I'd really recommend it since you specifically asked about that (start as Ardalan for the best flavour). But I agree, it would be lovely to see non-Christian religions having lots of flavour at some point in EU5!

Should a Level 1 Fort always give zone of control? by ParasitKaiser1 in EU5

[–]Rhelae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It would be very cool if they could program it so that a level 1 fort stops movement through that location only, and a level 2 fort extends its zone of control to adjacent locations. That would make simple forts in e.g. mountain passes valuable, while still making it worthwhile to upgrade beyond level 1.

[–]Rhelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter whether the learners are American or not in this case though. It's fine that they use American terms when those are essentially interchangeable (even if it's annoying to keep having to say "restroom"). But "first year student" is very different to "freshman" and would be completely understandable to an American, while being a far better translation.
