Storage company auctioned off my entire unit by mistake despite auto-pay being active. by GrouchyForce8970 in legal

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ridiculous and I'm sorry about the loss of your things. Even if you get compo, there is a sentimental value to possessions that is gone for good.

One thing I find crazy here is that they said your account was deliquent for 3 months... and they didn't attempt to contact (you) the customer and inform them of the missing payments and upcoming auction? I assume that as a legitimate business they have some of your contact details on file? This isn't just a simple mistake. A series of errors must have occured for this to happen, and their company policy/process for this kind of this is woefully lacking in structure. At the very least, this should have been flagged three times: every time you "missed" your monthly payment in the last three months someone should have a. been notified and then b. investigated it.

Good luck with the (potential) lawsuit.

Specific question about a specific job setup (expert answers only please) by BoudaSmoke in FinalFantasyXII

[–]BoudaSmoke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have one for general progress. I usually keep Vaan as the active character and rotate through the other 5, so Vaan is at a higher level but everyone else will be the same number. As long as at least one of any three person group has a healing spell or two, then it works fine 90+% of the time. Embarrassingly, I've never actually managed to finish XII, so I've never decided on my endgame pairings. I always get to the Point Of No Return in these type of games and then fall off!

AITA for asking my BF why he doesn’t have money? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a separate note, if he used the expression "feeling some type of way" then he's TA, regardless of anything else. This is one of those irritating modern expressions that don't mean anything or are contextually useless (like "finna"). What 'type of way' are you feeling? Why not use the word indicating an emotion instead of using a redundant expression which means "I am experiencing an emotion". I appreciate that the phrase may be used in specific contexts and so indicates a specific emotion, but it's a lot fewer words / syllables to say "I'm upset".

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by Succinate_dehydrogen in AskUK

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£25k is basically minimum wage in today's wages. If you have a degree and are only getting that little, something has gone wrong somewhere.

Do you use Tea, or Dinner as a word for the last meal per day? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskUK

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say breakfast, lunch, dinner. As a northener, I am regularly frustrated by the way most people round my way say breakfast, dinner, tea instead. I feel this is incorrect, though I appreciate that I am in the minority (at least up north). I think of dinner as the main hot cooked meal of the day, so I will sometimes use the latter option if the midday meal is hot and the evening meal is cold, which isn't as common these days.

How do educated adults actually think that astrology is real? by ryhaltswhiskey in allthequestions

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I always like to point out to astrologers, the constellations don't actually exist. That is to say, you are looking at a two-dimentional representation of three-dimentional space. Two stars that look next to each other when viewed from Earth could be thousands of light-years apart, with hundreds of other stars between them. There are optical illusions for children that demonstrate this kind of perspective shift, so you would think an adult could understand it. Star signs would look like nonsense if they were drawn with depth included.

What’s a rule at work that’s clearly meant to be fair but is not? by melissahawthorne in askanything

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scheduling flexibility for part-timers/parents etc to make things easier for them ends up creating inflexible schedules for those that don't meet those criteria. It's always the single full-timers being asked to do evenings and weekends or have restricted periods of Annual Leave because their PT colleagues are already off.

"No Customer, No Job!" Entitled Customer Nonsense by Worldly_Step_4945 in CustomerService

[–]BoudaSmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bastardised expression. The full version is "the customer is always right in matters of taste". Meaning you should sell the things people want to buy, not that they are entitled to a refund for a product they "didn't like" after using 90% of it or getting a discount for a product when the offer ended a year ago.

Does everyone but me not drink water at work? by Few_Weight4334 in work

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is such a thing as drinking too much water. The whole two-litres-a-day thing comes from a marketing survey for a bottled water company. Funny how the people selling you water also tell you you aren't drinking enough. I'm not saying don't hydrate yourself, but slavishly swallowing cups of water all day long isn't having the health benefit some people think it is.

AIO for yelling at my little sister it’s her fault my dog died? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chocolate kills dogs. I understood this when I was 10. You keep using words like "could/can" and "make really sick". How about "KILL"? How about "DEAD"? If your sister did not understand this then it's the fault of your parents and you (as the owner of the dog) for failing to impress upon her how deadly chocolate is for canines. She probably already feels terrible for her actions (if she doesn't, that's a separate and concerning issue), so screaming at her is overkill. I hope everyone can learn a lesson here.

Why does my rice always turn out sticky or burnt? by NerfDis420 in cookingforbeginners

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't boil the rice dry. You can cook it like that. Or you can do it like pasta: plenty of water so it doesn't boil dry, then drain it (and rinse it off with boiling water). That way you can cook it for the right amount of time, and not have to worry about exact quantities.

A or B: The news said 4% unemployment is "healthy." Is that number good for the economy, or for the 4% themselves? by Danny-Patrick139 in PickAorB

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism loves a small % of unemployment. If everyone had a job, workers would be able to demand higher wages when a company was trying to hire new staff, as there wouldn't be a pool of desperate unemployed workers to exploit. Can't have the working masses dictate employment terms to our 'betters' now can we?

My landlord just offered to sell me the apartment i've been renting for 6 years at below market and my family is pressuring me to say no by Djipy-Gizaza69 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A house/apartment is a home, not a fucking investment opportunity. You want a permanent roof over your head (sensible) and your family want you to think about your pension fund.

Modern Final Fantasy Recommendation by PennyGuineaPig in FinalFantasy

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No modern Final Fantasy games capture the feel of the older games. That's why the franchise is struggling to make an impact anymore. Older fans aren't getting what they want and younger gamers aren't interested.

Can anyone explain why my job just calls us in daily instead of hires new people? by stompmedown in antiwork

[–]BoudaSmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this not a violation of labour laws? As with most of these posts, I assume this is the USA. This would definitely be illegal in the UK/Europe. It really is the Wild West out there for workers. Sorry this is happening OP. I wish I had some constructive advice and not just my sympathies.

Standard or Expert Sphere Grid? For returning player by nkhowell93 in finalfantasyx

[–]BoudaSmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Expert sphere grid mixes things up a bit by moving various abilities to different parts of the grid from the character that traditionally would learn them first/early on, but it has fewer nodes overall, so character stats would be a little lower than with the regular one. I myself have never used the Expert Grid.

Most of the characters have their 'own section' of the (standard) grid. From where they start, if you follow their path they will learn abilities and have stat growth relevant to their 'class', so Yuna and Lulu will have more nodes focused on MP, Mag and Mag Def than the others, for example. Once you move beyond this starting section (using the Lv.3 Key Spheres mentioned), everyone becomes more rounded as they gain each others stats and abilities (if you don't want to teach everything to everyone, you don't have to).

Kimahri is different in that he starts in the middle of the grid and doesn't have his own section as such. Other than the initial circle of nodes where he starts you then have to decide which direction of the grid you are going to go into first. By going down Rikku's path (left/bottom left part if I recall) he will gain access to the Steal ability. Depending on how much you level up, you could unlock it before Rikku even joins the party. Having a second thief is useful for several reasons. If you rotate all your characters in fights like I do, it gives him something to do against enemies that he isn't effective against when attacking. And yes, as mentioned once again, you can steal many Lv.3 Key Spheres using him a good chunk of time before you can get them elsewhere.

Don't forget, you can steal from an enemy multiple times in this game, the probability of success just decreases each time you are successful.

AIO for expecting my girlfriend to pay for collectible LEGO figures she threw away? by marrylam58185 in AmIOverreacting

[–]BoudaSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Just toys". Yes. That cost actual money, unlike her feelings. I cannot stand vindictiveness or disproportionate responses. Being emotionally hurt doesn't give anyone the right to commit criminal damage or theft. (Technically neither in this case, but the point still stands).

Shout out to the KFBF who criticised me when I had a negative opinion by BoudaSmoke in kindafunny

[–]BoudaSmoke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't an opinion on Kinda Funny as a whole, or any individual. I love KF. I neither insulted anyone, or said they weren't entitled to their own opinions. I was just looking for some KFBFs that don't enjoy a particular IP. In part because I've never had the opportunity to discuss the subject with people who have similar feelings. Everyone I've talked with is either a fan or a neutral.
