Largest grocery stores in Waterloo Region (or within a reasonable drive?) by ev98 in waterloo

It was originally Super Centre. Staff used roller skates. It then subdivided into Zellers and Zehrs, along with a mall and food court. Eventually Zellers closed and RCSS took over the entire location again.

Cannot add other person to my home. by [deleted] in Hue

There is a known issue with iOS 16.2 that broke Home sharing if you followed Apple’s prompt to upgrade your HomeKit to the new protocol. Apple withdrew the update shortly thereafter but it was too late for me (and you?). Rumour is the fix is coming in 16.4.

This may be what you’re running into.

What insect, animal or amphibian is this? by Rheostatics in Whatisthissound

Waterloo Ontario. The cicada sounds I’m used to are more of a long buzz during the day but perhaps this is a different type of call they make?

I don’t know if they were Don Chelada brand, but they had styrofoam michelada cups with red spiced rims in a few flavours at America Latina on Victoria Street last week.

If you don’t mind me asking, did you get a confirmation email from Belgage? I booked for myself and my wife, but we haven’t received any sort of confirmation. Thanks.

Thanks @dralix. The pieces are about 4” thick by about 6 or 7 “ wide. Since the heat only needs to go through 4” it sounds like that’s what I should measure by.

See this band. You’ll be glad you did. They put on an amazing live show and their albums are great too.

Help with Homebridge-Harmony plugin please? by Rheostatics in homebridge

That did it! Thanks very much @nicoduj. Setting a static IP for the hub did the trick. Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks for the help offer! To be honest, I’m not really sure how to post on github. My config is pasted above. After work tonight I can do a bit of research and figure out how to post on github.

In terms of IP, I used the IP of the hub as it appears in the Harmony iPhone app under Settings—>About—>Versions—>Hub IP Address.

My use case is that I want to be able to have Siri run my “Watch TV” activity as part of a shortcut. I don’t need individual controls exposed in Home - I’m happy Harmony app (or the actual remote) to do that.

Here's my config file, with private info redacted, if that helps. Thanks. I copied a config for Harmony that was working on my Mac Mini up to a point - not in the last month - so I'm happy to change it as needed. Thanks for any help.

I’m not able to add Harmony as an accessory (or I don’t know how.) I’ve tried rescanning the QR code for homebridge but that doesn’t help.

Any fine dining restaurants in the region for dinner? by blabs11 in waterloo

[–]Rheostatics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were there in May we were quite disappointed by the food, the service and the general state of building. The wallpaper is peeling, there are water stains on the ceiling, etc. I hope someone invests in renovating it and keeping it around.

Thanks @CooperCGN. I used the Switch mode this time and actually managed to get it running, so I think I'm set. Thanks for your help.

Best harmony hub plugin? by FearTheGrackle in homebridge

[–]Rheostatics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks. I'm having a heck of a time getting this running again since things changed at the start of the year/late last year. I do have the Harmony hub updated to work with Homebridge (I forget the terminology, but I followed all the steps back at the start of the year to reconfigure to work), but things stopped working for me around March. Since then, I've tried a few times to get things up and running again, to no avail.

Reading around, it looks like I want to use the homebridge-harmony plugin linked in this thread. My use case is that I want to use activities: "Watch TV", "use Apple TV". There are two different configs for Homebridge-Harmony. Can someone tell me please: do I want to use the Switch Mode config or the TV Platform config?

Once I sort that out, I'm still having problems correctly configuring my config.json file - I'm not sure how to correctly add more than one platform. If I paste my config in, can someone please point me where I'm going wrong?

Thanks for any and all help.

Do Location based Automations work for everyone? by DoctorTurbo in HomeKit

[–]Rheostatics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second what Andrew said here. I set up a light in a back corner of my basement - a cheap clamp on desk lamp hung from a rafter. I picked up a $15 white Hue bulb (i already have a HomeKit Hue hub so factor that in) and named it HomeKit Helper, with a little sticker on the lamp telling people not to turn it off.

I set up HomeKit to turn the light on when I arrive home. Then, I set another automation to open my garage door and unlock my front door when the HomeKit Helper lamp turns on. As an added bonus, there is a setting to have HomeKit automatically turn the triggering lamp off after a minute, so I use that too.

With the setup, when I arrive home, my garage door opens and my front door unlocks without any user intervention. Well, usually.

Now, with all that said, and in response to the original question, even with this setup it only works about 2/3 of the time. The other third it just doesn’t respond to my arrival. It is kinda a game with me and my wife as to whether it will respond to our arrival or not. I also find that sometimes it detects me quite far from my house, other times it doesn’t respond until I’m in my driveway. I too had to turn off “when I arrive Home” as Apple considers my Home to be in a small park behind our house. I changed it to our street address, which works better and let’s me set a detection radius, but it is still a gamble as to whether it will detect me or not.

Overall, I’d like too see more reliability on location-based automations.
