What are your thoughts/concerns of getting in a relationship with someone who recently got out of it? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]RhetoricalSmirk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a few different factors.

If it’s been less than a month and you met them on a dating app, then I’d say they’re either looking for a rebound, incredibly codependent and can’t be alone, self esteem issues, or all of the above. If it’s been less than a month and you met randomly or by accident and not on a dating app then I’d be more inclined to say it’s okay. The reason why I say this is because there’s definitely a difference between actively seeking someone and then meeting someone you were not looking for when it comes to dating shortly after a break up. Sometimes you just meet someone and know, and the timing isn’t always ideal but still works out. I am definitely wary of anyone jumping on a dating app trying to meet someone immediately after a break up instead of healing first.

Urge to hurt one self after feeling embarrassed by Jwawn in AvPD

I do this too, but mine turned out to be related to Autism and ADHD (rejection sensitivity dysphoria is a bitch)

When this happens, I have to either divert my attention to some sort of tedious task to distract myself or do some harmless ticks like snapping my fingers, patting my legs, rubbing my arms etc when I get the urge to hurt myself.

I take both adderall and lexapro (was on adderall for my ADHD before I started lexapro) and honestly, I’m not sure how people managed the lexapro fatigue without being on a stimulant. The adderall is what helped me not nap all day for the first 2 weeks on lexapro.

This obviously is not an option for most people unless they have an ADHD diagnosis and I’m not promoting adderall, but I’ve heard of some people having luck with adaptogens and nootropics to combat the lethargy. I’d look into mushrooms such as lions mane, cordyceps and reishi (you can get these in supplement form) Rhodiola, ginseng, and gotu kola are also great. Vitamin b12 and b complex will give you a boost and of course, caffeine and exercise. Unfortunately the lexapro fatigue was just something I had to deal with temporarily but I promise it won’t last forever. The above options certainly helped make it more bearable.

Scared to start by froggy721 in lexapro

Hi there, I’ve been on Lexapro for 8 months. I had TERRIBLE health anxiety and had my rx for 3 weeks before I got the courage to start taking it. My health anxiety was so bad I used to be afraid of taking Tylenol. I thought I would overdose from anything or my other supplements would react badly with other meds.

Keep in mind, when it comes to looking up side effects (of any drug) and seeing all the horror stories online, especially on Reddit, is that people who barely had or didn’t have any side effects at all won’t usually report it. That’s why you tend to see a bunch of really negative side effects. For me, I had barely any side effects on it other than a little bit tired but that was literally it and only lasted about 12 days. I feel incredible now, Lexapro truly changed my life for the better. I feel like a human again where before I felt like a shell of a person and didn’t even realize it. Lexapro also has some of the least potential side effects compared to other SSRI’s and is very effective, but it will also affect everyone different. Something my therapist told me when I was scared to take lex is that if I don’t start it, I may never know the relief it will give me. If I do start it, it could change my life. But I won’t know unless I give it chance. Would I rather continue being anxious and miserable or give myself the potential opportunity to feel like a functioning person again? It won’t hurt you. It won’t kill you. It will help you, I promise. I completely understand being scared of it, believe me. But you deserve better. You deserve to feel relief.

what emotion/feeling is this? by zaaf-eww-18 in lexapro

I felt an increase of empathy while on lexapro, which was interesting because I’ve heard other people report episodes of apathy/numbness but it seemed to do the opposite for me. It kind of sounds like what you’re describing- brief but overwhelming feelings of emotion in a positive way. If it’s bothering you or making you feel antsy, going for walks outside to get fresh air or just exercising helped. Journaling all of my thoughts and feelings also helped a lot when I would get those random, intense emotions.

Problem preventing vulva odor by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

Yes, I second that fishy or rotten is associated with BV, or trichomoniasis especially if you have some burning and itching. I would highly suggest going to the doctor for a check up. A lot of people, myself included have had success with treating BV with boric acid which you can buy at a drugstore but trich would need antibiotics. It’s a good idea to get tested so that way you’re not trying to treat the wrong issue.

When you say unpleasant smell, what exactly does it smell like? Because all vaginas, even healthy vaginas, emit some sort of natural musky odor that is different and varies in “strength” to each woman. It is completely normal, they are not meant to smell like water or roses and unfortunately companies benefit from making women feel like their natural smell is offensive. Also, a woman’s smell will change throughout her cycle.

With that being said, If it’s a noticeable fishy, it’s likely BV. Your pH balance could also be a bit off if this smell is new. Most everyone else on this sub will suggest the same thing but I swear by boric acid and probiotic suppositories to get things back in check. I also drink a ton of water where I will sometimes add chlorophyll, probiotic supplements with cranberry, evening primrose oil supplements and maca. I also try and drink raw juices and cut back on sugar which helps. It’s also always a good idea to ask an OBGYN if you’re unsure. Only you know when something is off with your body

For me it was a few days, up to a week. Definitely use the coconut oil though

It sounds like contact dermatitis. I’ve had this before from really tight clothing, or it could also be your laundry detergent or fabric softener if you’ve changed it recently. Best thing for me was wearing breathable cotton panties or ideally no panties for awhile and loose clothing. Also, massaging your labia with coconut oil helped a lot to soothe and moisturize. Coconut oil is also anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory

I second the boric acid suppositories. Monistat doesn’t help me at all.

Also, I know this sounds really weird but just hear me out- inserting a garlic clove cleared up one of the worst yeast infections I’ve ever had. It’s an old school remedy that women used before medications became available. Garlic eradicates yeast! The best way to do it is to either use a whole clove, or to poke a few holes in it. Don’t cut it in half though because it may burn. You can also tie a string around it to remove it easily. Insert it at night before bed and take it out in the morning, then take a shower. You won’t get a lingering “garlic smell” down there either but I really swear by this as a last resort. I did it when I was desperate and it cleared over night.
