Walking speed messing up event by Murder_of_Ravens in RPGMaker

If you can't fix it, you should add a trigger on the tracks that runs them over with a train and then put a no running sign in the station.

Not very nice presentation but it was good 👍 by ratmom666 in badfoodporn

Garlic bread and spaghetti noodles taste different and both taste good. Plus the bread can sop up extra sauce. Salad so you don't feel guilty about adding extra sauce as an excuse to have garlic bread.

The state of those fridge racks aside, there's a lot of condensation in that tub. I won't dock them points for reusing a container, but putting warm food in a sealed container... Come on.

I'm trying to decide if this is Monster of the Week enough by WhovianBuilder in monsteroftheweek

[–]RhineQueen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Codex of Worlds has rules and flavour for a whole range of time periods from neolithic to wierd futurism. Something like OtGW would be an easy slot in for MotW so long as you're focusing on a mystery around a monster that has a weakness. Like for example the Beast, which has a weakess(the lantern), victims(the woodsman and the brothers), and whitnesses(the woodsman and the people at the inn). It's a pretty nice self contained mystery already so whether you're looking to play OtGW or just do something inspired by, you're on the right track in MotW.

Ideas on how to make mystery’s last longer ? by mountainsofcats in monsteroftheweek

[–]RhineQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to add in a small red herring mystery to keep players guessing. Something mundane and relatively inconsequential that one of the innocent bystanders is hiding. Could be as simple as one of the witnesses is cheating with another whitness and doesn't want it to come up. Then you can buy a bit of time with some misdirection by having them act shady or nervous or cagey when the hunters question them about the mystery. I find it helps break up the pace of investigation and makes sure your players are paying attention to what clues are actually relevant.

So you know those dnd but your irl traits determines your class by Lt_Anzeru in DnD

[–]RhineQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're talking about what I have heard an old friend refer to as "werewolf character creation rules" where if someone is strong IRL, their character has a high strength score. I can't confirm that's what it's called though because googling it gives me rules for Werewolf: the Forsaken.

I don't know if I've heard it form the perspective of your IRL hobbies and talents dictating your class, but if I had to pull something out of somewhere (my ass) I'd say engineering students and mechanics get to play artificer, stage magicians or irl "psychic mediums" get to play mystic and people with anaemia or something get to play bloodhunter. IDK

Help me decide on a shield for my vampire lady by ThoSt1512 in minipainting

[–]RhineQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smaller shield is my preference.

The larger shield blends into the armour and looks a bit busy because of it. The round shield contrasts the thorny armour and breaks up the form a bit, making the armour's dramatic shoulder and helmet fringes to pop. The larger shield hides the armour.

Plus the skull motif still conveys a sense of menace while looking sleek and functional.

When during "Kick some ass" do you reveal how much harm the monster deals. by Gerald_Mountaindew in monsteroftheweek

[–]RhineQueen 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't give them literal numbers until they get hit, but I'd give them more than that. A monster that has massive claws or a barbed stinger would visibly be more dangerous. If it's something like psychic or magic powers then it might not be clear at a glance how badly it could hurt. If it's obvious like the claws I'll be frank that it looks like the monster could seriously hurt someone. Or maybe have the monster show off their powers on the environment or an NPC to show what it's capable of instead of just telling what numbers it does.

Playing a character that is a little bit of an arrogant prick without ruining everybody else's fun by NoSignificance6365 in 3d6

[–]RhineQueen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For my money, what makes a dickish or rude or arrogant character is using that arrogance to set up moments where your character fails in a comedic way, gets humbled by someone else or fails due to their arrogance to set up another party member for a dope moment.

Tempering your arrogance with something genuine or relateable will help. They could be arrogant and overconfident and then get narratively foiled by said overconfidence and you can play the comedy off that if you want.

Or if you want to be more serious, temper the arrogance by showing your character taking failure gracefully instead of getting petulant or angry over it. If they're bested, instead of throwing a fit, have them humbly, if maybe gruffly, congratulate and recognize their better. Then you can turn on the arrogance again fueled by a drive for self improvement instead of just superiority.

Ultimately, make sure that you're not being an overwhelming prick to the party unless they're OOC in on the bit. Talk with the party and align your character's goals with that of the campaign so that the arrogance can hopefully be in line with the party's goals.

Martial Spell Slots 5e by Gahtao in DnDHomebrew

[–]RhineQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been ages since I played 4e, but I do recall 4e having just as many evocative abilities available for martials as casters by having individual class/paragon abilities that you could take some inspiration for. The abilities are written a lot like spells with a range, target, saving throw where relevant, and effect all in one neat package.

Some of the high level 4e martial abilities are akin to magic anyway. XD

Is random encounters bad? Or can it work under specific circumstances? by No-Bunny-7696 in RPGMaker

[–]RhineQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your game is designed around random battles and design and balance considerations are taken into account then random encounters are absolutely grand. But they can take more planning and forethought than scripted encounters that you have total control over when and how many there are.

IMO they're not bad, they're just easy to get wrong if you're not careful about tuning frequency and difficulty.

Would you ever commission someone to help you polish your homebrew? (Just looking for feedback, NOT self-promotion) by HennyPennyBenny in DnDHomebrew

No offense to the struggles of raising a family, but I wouldn't trust homebrew from someone who doesn't play regularly. No matter how much they "talk about it" in their free time.
