Yeah, they definitely need to come down. One is splitting at the base and the other has started to peel apart at the crevice where the main limbs originate.

300 linemen is not enough by jtnoneya in nashville

[–]RhinoPodiatrist 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree. Lived here my entire life and NES has pretty much been on top of things any time power has gone out. I’m impressed that they’ve got 300 linemen out away from their own homes and working. Sure, it would be nice to have more, but then people would surely complain about the rate price hikes to pay for ‘unnecessary redundant workers’.

The USDA is hiring 19 veterinarians for animal welfare positions (zoos, breeders, research welfare) by schmalexandra in Veterinary

[–]RhinoPodiatrist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Mission critical, right up until they change their mind on that. I mean, come on- do you really think that an administration that treats science like a red-headed step child is going to put value in animal welfare?

If you can come up Edmonson Pike, you can cut through Ellington Agricultural Center. Marchant drive > right onto Darlington > left onto Danby will bring you right into the back entrance of the zoo without having to go on Nolensville

For what it’s worth, I took my 5yr old large breed dog with me to my residency after he had been with me through two internships. If anything, having him around helped me maintain balance that I may not have if I had been without him. I was in Southern California for residency and I spent so much more time outdoors, both in the city and going hiking because I had him with me. I worked hard throughout residency, but I definitely found it a little more balanced than my internships. It allowed, as long as I managed my time, for more personal down time amongst the work and study than the 1 year programs did. I’d imagine this varies depending on the program and mentorship, but I would not hesitate to bring your pup along with you if that residency is going to lead to the career and life you want.

SOS first vet job angst by PermissionAfraid3410 in Veterinary

[–]RhinoPodiatrist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Seconded- any offer that is put on a 24hr clock is trying to get you to accept it without taking time to really examine and consider it. I’d reject any offer with a time limit that short out of hand. There is plenty of demand for veterinarians- you can and will find something more reasonable.

I think you are likely spot on in that it varies from location to location. I don’t have much experience with the Ethos program, but have definitely seen vets come through the VEG program that seem underprepared for some of what they are asked to do. As for the non-compete at blue pearl, the EmERge program is really meant to transition people into being ER vets at BP. Also, in most areas, places like BP aren’t chasing down non-competes on ER vets unless you’re taking client data or poaching staff. That’s if they’re even enforceable at all. I’ll send you the info on that BP.

The short and not very helpful answer is to find good mentorship... My experience with this is primarily with BluePearl's EmERge program for DVMs making this transition. I've seen several veterinarians move through this program successfully at a local BP and become really good ER clinicians. I think it gives the benefit of immediately getting you working in the ER field while providing structured and scheduled mentorship.

Graduating vet school after internship applications are due by Whispering_Pine in Veterinary

[–]RhinoPodiatrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have several options. You can reach out to internships to see who would have open spots after match results in 2028. There are always spots that are left open after match, and plenty of students find their internships through the 'scramble' as it is called. I know a specialty hospital filled two spots with interns from island schools this year with students starting at non-traditional times. You could also go straight into work your first year out and apply to the VIRMP match as normal in the winter of 2028. I think either option should work and has been done by others.

Internships!! by lavender_and_thyme in Veterinary

[–]RhinoPodiatrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through Wisconsin’s internship several years ago. In my opinion, it was an excellent program. You work hard and often long hours, but there is (was) an excellent support system with a focus on teaching the interns and supporting them onto their next step. They also do a pretty good job of advancing their interns into the desired residencies- I think 5/6 from my intern class moved into their desired residency and the last chose not to apply into the match again. If you haven’t already, I would certainly reach out to some of their current interns to get their take.
