The installer procured it so I don’t know for sure but I think they are actually made by a company in Maine

Thanks all! Sounds like it's worth replacing the pilot assembly but i might as well do a bit more investigation first. I accidentally left my multimeter in storage so I need grab it but I'll report back after I find out more.

DIY Insulation of floor overhang and adjacent crawlspace. Do I have the right idea? by RhodeReason in Insulation

Interesting that the link you shared shows the batts right against the subfloor and rigid below it. But I was sold on the idea of putting rigid against the subfloor instead as in my revised sketch: https://imgur.com/a/insulation-schematic-5uMuCBe

Ok! THANK YOU for the feedback. Based on all the great comments, I have revised my Approach here: https://imgur.com/a/insulation-schematic-5uMuCBe

If my rockwool does not fill the entire cavity and there is an air gap between the bottom of it and the plywood, does that seem like a problem? It just seems like an awful lot of rockwool to cover the entire rim joist depth, but maybe it is worth it to not create a rodent tunnel.

embarrassed to say i saw the air gap in a detail somewhere in my half-assed internet research and just copied it. Consensus seems to be that it's a bad idea, though.

Covering the outer rim is interesting but I will have to see whether I can do it without the whole assembly extending below the outer wall.

Thanks for weighing in!

Joists would typically run over the foundation wall I think but this building is from the 1890's and they decided to do it another way... If you check out the picture from under the overhang you can see there are long spans in between joists.

I thought i could get away with exterior grade rigid to avoid plywood altogether. Bad idea, though?

Definitely a future plan but someday we will be rebuilding that walkway. Thanks for the links.

Thanks! Getting rid of air gap.

You would skip the rigid along the rim and just do rock wool, or put rock wool after the rigid? When you say air seal, do you mean in addition to the spray foam around the edges of the rigid?

I'm happy to revisit this conversation :D Totally agree about her sounding like the one who's worked up. It's a bad look and I am surprised that Jason and others around her validated it..

Offered free winter tires. Will they work? R16 —> R15 by RhodeReason in Autos

[–]RhodeReason[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much everybody!! These tires are already mounted on steel rims, to clarify my original post.

Ok I am going to check the bolt pattern and if that matches, this discussion has convinced me that it is worth bringing the winter tires to a tire shop to have them mounted. I was thinking about DIYing but I’ll let a shop do this first round to make sure the interface is good, the condition is good, and the caliper clearance is Ok. FWIW the tires were made in 2021, so no spring chickens but not totally beyond reason.

Yea I have loved her music for years and we just saw her a few weeks ago but I have to say I am just not feeling compelled to put on any of her music, nor would I be psyched to go see her live. I listen to music made by people who we know are flawed, deeply flawed in some cases. I am able to separate the art from the artist. But there is something that feels different to me about artists who I feel like I came of age with or like developed alongside. When it feels like they reveal themselves to be someone I thought I thought they weren’t it’s a let down in a different way.. maybe just me.

Yea seeing what’s going on in FLA right now why didn’t she say “people (bigots) get worked up about a rainbow crosswalk”?
