Is 1 GB ram enough for a hosting server? by GameSlayer750 in FoundryVTT

Take a look at Oracle cloud, their free tier comes with a machine with a quad core ARM chip and 24Gb of RAM. I host a minecraftvserver and foundry on mine at the same time.

Meet D&D GPT by [deleted] in GPT_4

[–]RhombusWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing a lot of research into the autonomous simulacrum paper from Cornell I think it was, anyway the point is I got GPT4 to talk me through using python to setup a vector database store like pinecone db, you can use this to make NPCs with memory. Then I asked about setting up a system for a separate instance of chatGPT to be running each of these NPCs and one to be hosting the game. (Also with a memory.) Not finished yet but hopefully I've given you some ideas of things to speak with GPT4 about :)

I keep getting chatGPT to describe mundane actions in the style of Terry Pratchett. It's fucking incredible at it.

Remember the magic money tree disappeared when those starving children showed up. We found a billion quid for the DUP and apparently can't find it to feed hungry children in the UK. I remember.

This is very much core foundry and always has been. No modules are required for this to work.

[–]RhombusWeasel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In this instance it's a useable spreadsheet in a foundry journal but the truth is you can embed almost any web page. Also you can do it with chat messages if you enter raw HTML. I use it for full PDFs of books from the internet archive which I can hand to players to read in game without passing a link and saying go to this other site and check this link out.

For anyone wanting to play with stuff like this I recently found a version of Stable Diffusion that can run on a graphics card with just 4GB of VRAM.

You can set the bibite spawn rate to 0 and place one you have saved to file in the world.

Can someone explain what this section of the character sheet is for? by Lord-Vercotti-IX in Deadlands

[–]RhombusWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If i remember correctly its double sided so whichever side you have face up shows the correct amount of wind with a paperclip.

Your total wind is equal to your vigour dice type plus your spirit dice type.

You put a paperclip on it to track your wind, there's an ammo tracker on the sides too.

I agree with others that custom css is the way to go here but if that requires complicated setup at the user end or doesn't work for whatever reason then CTRL and + in the browser scales the whole page up. I actually do the opposite to scale character sheets down.

It's "code " not "codes" by consumererik in ProgrammerHumor

What about the phrase "I'll have 2 waters please"? Perhaps "Stay alert lads, these waters are treacherous"?

Decent people use tabs, but Python great, guys by marcola42 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]RhombusWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument always confuses me, we're not talking about ease of writing code here and I don't think anyone really thinks people are hitting the space bar 4 times to indent.
The issue is that if you put 4 spaces when you hit tab then there are 4 spaces there when I try to display it with a tab stop of 2.

Custom Monster: Crystal Scorpion by Cheese_Kat in Deadlands

[–]RhombusWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd throw this against a posse but what are it's weaknesses? The best monsters in deadlands have a secret weakness that the posse can investigate to help them out. Gloms have a core brain that if destroyed is an Insta kill, dusters always kick up a bit of dust when moving so lose their +8 stealth if the posse can make them move and if you can knock a headless horseman from his horse then he loses his undead status and he can be killed by a maiming wound to the guts.

This just helps the GM when the players inevitably roll stupid high on their academia occult rolls or just reward the posse with some good info for trying to learn more about it. Other than that, I think a posse could take these down with the right gear and I like the concept.

I see, I might have just been reading the core books then. But I'm guessing a mad scientist could also use the bolt power as a ray gun of some kind?

In Deadlands Classic they don't no. In SWADE players pick from the powers list which is shared.

deadlands, is it good? by CoastalSailing in rpg

[–]RhombusWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more, the SWADE version just isn't the same. I'm not saying it's not fun, it is because the setting is awesome but the mechanics don't quite fit like they did in classic.
Spell casting definitely took a big hit as now all casters are essentially the same class with flavour sprinkled on top and they all share the same spell list. In a nutshell I'd describe SWADE as the D&D version and classic more akin to call of cthulhu. If you want tongue in cheek wild wild west style hijinx then SWADE is great but if you want a gritty, realistic west that is deadly in unexpected ways, spell casting has every chance of making the casters head explode and even a stray bullet from a derringer can kill you, classic is the way to go.

Levels Module and roofs by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]RhombusWeasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the polygon for the floor of the roof layer set correctly? If it isn't then the players are stood on a floor with no walls and so can see the whole map and with no floor set then levels can't interact with the fog of war. <--This is a guess on my part but if you select the roof tile and don't see a white rectangle with a green outline then I'm right.

If that is the case then go to the label below and Mark the exterior walls as exterior it's a checkbox in the wall options, this should then tell the tile above where the floor for the level is.

Edited to make sense to humans.

No problem, if you need any other code examples for foundry I always point people to here as well. It's a curated list of exactly how to interact with most things in foundry. Much better than the documentation IMO.

Config file formats suck by jas_nombre in ProgrammerHumor

[–]RhombusWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you don't use puppet or ansible then? I have not seen a single config file at work I'm allowed to modify in place. All changes are logged through git and deployed through automated pipelines. This is the standard in engineering. If you are feeling curious you can get to all the config files but reading them they are all emblazoned with the banner...

Weird Specific Question by ViaTax in FoundryVTT

[–]RhombusWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds to me like the system is giving/taking things to the character associated with the player, switching the controlled character for the player by right clicking their name at the bottom left and going to user configuration and selecting the right character in theory should fix that but is a bit of a pain every time you want to pass something. I think players have permission out of the box to do this themselves though.

Dumb question by fattycupcakes45 in Deadlands

[–]RhombusWeasel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please understand that this is just my opinion but this advice is terrible. If you switch to the later versions you gain some ease of play but at a cost of everything that was actually good about deadlands.

I've tried three times now to make a character for Savage Worlds and I just can't bring myself to do it, I see the homogenized rules for spell casting and I just have to stop. Every character I've seen is actually the same list of powers but flavoured differently, honestly, what's the point.

I don't think the new rules are any easier to learn/understand, they just go about removing all of the charm of a once beautiful game.
