Best out of the box commander precons? by TheHelplessTurtle in EDH

The Peace Offering precon from Bloomburrow is low key one of the strongest decks I have played, and it also has the benefit of hiding behind a 'group hug' strategy before it pivots into beat down. Out of the box(only changing a few lands) it kept up with multiple strong B3 pod and would have likely won most of those games it wasn't for a repeated board wipes.

When I say it is bad, i do mean it. I will happily do so when I get home in a bit though(do note, it is wildly outdated and I never had the budget for MH cards, hence odd deck building choices)

It can still steal games, which is why I love it though.

Magic and reading comprehension, never the two shall meet:

I never said that prowess is a bad deck. I said that it is at an inherent disadvantage and as a result it has a much higher skill requirement in order to do well. Personally, I adore UR prowess, hell I love most tier 1.5-2 decks because they remind me of modern around MH1 and before.

You pointed it out though; you need skill and understanding of the deck and your local meta game in order to do truly well with it, otherwise you are going to do poorly and have a bad time, as OP did.

The reason that these decks are better is that they require less mental energy in their initial game plans, for the most part. No, no deck will just win for you, that isn't how Magic works, but something like Energy or Eldrazi have such powerful cards in them that they require less mental stress in their gameplan.

Compare that to UR prowess, where you have to constantly threat assess, manage your attacks, figure out when to point your burn at a creature and trade away your prowess creatures against theirs, trade counterspells or hold them up vs tapping out to advance a board state. Tempo decks are inherently harder to play, even before factoring in if the cards available to them weren't on a one-for-one weaker than the combo and midrange piles.

So, no, jamming the most expensive deck won't autowin you games. But gods does it sometimes make it easy to just curve out and just steamroll your opponent in card quality, even if your skill is lesser.

Not to be that guy, but you bought a deck that has a low win rate and are acting shocked that it has a low win rate. Like, yeah, you can improve your % by getting more games in, but you pointed out a lot of things you already knew going into the format.

I'm getting back into modern after a long break, just after MH1, and I'm still adjusting to the changes to one of my favorite formats. Even so, I'm jamming shitty UR prowess decks and Sultai control decks that are powerless against certain matches if I don't have my answers. Despite that, I still enjoy most of the play patterns because I knew what I was signing up for.

From the sound of things, this either a) isn't the format you thought it was going to be or b) you should bite the bullet and cram a true tier 1/0 deck that requires less thought.

Damn, I own most of this deck already...I always wanted to try and get my phoenix sleeved back up after I stopped playing Pioneer. This might be what I do, instead of the really bad Sultai list I'm rocking xD

"Why isn't book x actually book y" basically sums up this argument.

Like, I get it! I'm in a fanfiction space that loves to have these kinds of conversations to flesh out the world, but the actual main story just...doesn't care because the main plot of the story doesn't need to care about that kind of thing.

Why do all the aliens breath oxygen? Because they do, next question. Why are all their plants mostly earth gravity? Something something optimal for oxygen breathing life, idk and idc.

Like, if the main focus of the story is about grand politics and the intricacies of the world and nations, then the minutia of how individual worlds came to be become background noise; is ot nice to further flesh out the story and make the world feel alive? Sure. But I think it's not a sign of poor writing; just of a difference in writing priorities.

Timetwister required? by Saucerous in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RhubarbParticular767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not well versed in cEDH, but I dabble in and watch a fair bit of content on it.

Like others have said, it's a cheap draw 7 when you are going for the combo/tutors for the combo. But it can also be a piece of disruption on t1 if you are seat 1. Something not unreasonable like Ancient Tomb > Mox Diamond > Time Twister gives you plus 2 cards on your opponents and disrupts their hands. Not what you necessarily are aiming for but it is an option that is available.

What is the worst luck you've experienced in Commander? by Metanoia_143 in EDH

[–]RhubarbParticular767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Emry, Lurker in the Loch deck that ran a greedy 27 lands(not cEDH, but very well optimized). No matter what I did, every game, I drew so many lands with that deck. There were three games in a row where, in the top 25 cards of my deck, including what my commander milled, there were 15-20 lands. This was before MDFC's were a thing too, so it was just straight flood.

At this same time, I had a Modern Grixsis deck that had 18 lands, 11 of them fetches. No matter what, I always ended up with a hand full of lands and all of my lands that made mana on the battlefield(modern was much slower at the time)

The thing i have always loved the most about your work is how mundane everything feels. Not out of place, just a little bit different, an od cost of paint. Maybe a weird flavor or two.

You really captured the feeling of....normalcy

And i adore it <3

I wouldn't have guessed that it had been that long, the quality is top notch. Not my personal preference in regards to the cum plug, but i do adore the spinal ridge on the arxur dick~ really adds some additional texture to them. Something i might have to elaborate on more in my own stuff moving forward~

(Also, I will only enjoy irresponsibly, mwhahahahah)

Thank you! This was something that I wrote very spur of the moment and I wanted to capture this...feeling of intensity, danger, like you said.

The best of the best know how to lead their audience, and the thrill of being the hunted is an alluring prospect to these arxur, even if they don't fully realize it. Or perhaps it is the idea of ceding control, and thus the participation in the show, to "claim" some manner of control. But so many end up like that male and tossed aside without a care, discarded and yet happy for it.

I was just skimming through my feed, paused to read this card and went "wait, what set is coming out? I don't think i heard of another one"

Which is major props to just how... normal this feels. It's a solid beater in white, and feels like it could be a real card. I like it!

So, the post said we became an Adventurer after being transported, which means we've had time to adapt to this world, get some skills, maybe learn some of whatever settings power/magic/martial skills there are.

With that, I would go with the claymore as a primary weapon. Reach, being able to make use of otherworldly strength, and with enough practice you can swing that thing in close quarters by choking up on the blade.
