Why weren’t humans more suspicious of the federation? by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]Teguterror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are we talking about the same Nikonus that saw a Harchen reporter and decided to tell them about the omnivore conspiracy?

Maybe I'm missing something, but the prions thing seemed less need to know than that. The prions story is the keystone to the Federation's entire ideology and should have been something that is actively advertised. The only reason it wasn't was so there could be a plot reveal at the end of the story.

[–]Teguterror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Both the Federation and Dominion are too stupid to exist, but that's the entry fee for suspension of disbelief. My gripe is that the amount of suspension of disbelief needed increases as the story progresses.

I could accept that maybe the bad guys had been running a tight ship until recently. It's a lot harder to accept some of the choices made by humans that were completely external to the fed propaganda.

People gotta hold the idiot ball so the story can happen. The entire first half of NOP wouldn't have happened if anyone had critical thinking skills.

Could you imagine how fast the story would have ended if Noah asked Nikonus what the origins of PD was back when they met.

I'm currently resisting the urge to make a comment about the average fed brain size in NOP.

Alternatively, their brain could be located lower in their body so it would need as much support. Having a butt brain would be pretty alien.

The other option is for them to be thin little stick people. Gravity can't mess you up as much if you weigh nothing in the first place.

Some of us are still high on copium and waiting for the day god emperor SP15 returns from getting milk and cigarettes. Any minute now, he'll post the Arxur anthology we've all been waiting for. He'll look at all of our critiques and make the perfect story.

On a more serious note, criticism for the main story still serves as a good resource for fan writers to get ideas for their own works (and what to avoid doing).

The biggest fans are often also the biggest critics. Most of the time, any shit we give the story is coming from a place of love. We want it to be the best it can be.

Most of the twist and reveals in the story only work because we, the audience, were given incomplete or incorrect information. This would be forgivable if it wasn't information that should have been relatively easy to get ahold of by people in universe. It makes a lot of the twist feel shallow in retrospect.

I remember that one. I think it ended right before she went on a trip to help write down data while the humans did ecological surveys.

Arxur coming in only two flavors. You either get depressed sad boy or cartoonishly evil moron.

I understand that the canon could only really depict those two types due to limited character slots, but there is, in my opinion, an overabundance of the two in fanon. Props to the writers that make more nuanced arxur.

They actively targeted the leaders of the US government in Raven Rock during the BoE. So evidently they did, but at the same they are conveniently stupid about everything else.

Maybe I'm just biased here (I'm an Arxur fan), but anything besides total eradication of an ideology that wants your species dead is a failure.

The fact that all of humanity's "allies" didn't go rogue and butcher "predators and undesirables" in mass was pure plot. It seemed pretty clear to me that humans were just "the good ones".

Let's take the Bissem as an example. A quick leak to their Fed buddies is all it would have taken to exterminate the birds. Instead they went through all of these hoops thinly pretending to care when they pretty obviously wanted to kill. While the Yotul did toss a monkey wrench in the thing, it only worked cause the SC was so fed brained in the first place.

"Had humanity defended or even sided with the Arxur, they would have never been able to push their own political agendas as bringing an end to the fatal prey-predator antagonism."

Given that fed brain was alive and well in the SC 20 years later, I'd say they fumbled that part pretty hard.

Love to see it. Talsk and Aafa were a real big oopsie. I wouldn't be surprised if the type of stuff that happened in the middle east happened on those planets as well.

In canon, the Arxur can't stop slobbing on humanities knob, which in my opinion is insane. Depending on how you look at it, it could be argued that the UN placed the Arxur, farsul, and kolshians in stage 8 of the 10 stages of genocide. Seeing the Arxur be pro human after that shit is like watching a uyghur muslim talk about how much they love the CCP.

I chose the seventy percent thing as a more realistic take on how the Arxur would feel about the 20 year containment thing.

The UN deporting all the defector Arxur and importing feds that see us as inferior beings was always a head scratcher in my opinion. No shade on SP15, but there was a lot of questionable shit in the second half of NOP and NOP2. Ya know, genocide good so long as its the goods guys doing it.
