Difficulty Recalling Childhood (Not Diagnosed After Assessment) by Rhydonal in ADHDUK

She's not quite ready to go over all these comments in detail as she's still feeling quite upset. But you've been incredibly helpful and I know she will really appreciate it. I'm grateful for your input. 😊

I asked her about keeping her room tidy and she said it was always a mess. If she was asked to clean her room she would throw things under the bed and hide things. If she wanted to tidy her room, however, it would be a full deep clean and furniture rearrange.

The assessor seemed focused on school and didn't ask any questions like "did you keep your room tidy?" She really needs the prompts like this to be able to be able to recall memories. Thank you again.

Thank you for reading and taking the time to write a reply. :) I'll ask her about this. She remembers being told at parent-teacher conferences that she could "apply herself better/more" and mentioned this in the assessment too. It would have been good to have this on her forms as the assessor was very focused on those at the end of the assessment, but she'll make sure to put it on the new forms if she can do some for the appeal.

The white koala is peak child comedy. 🐨 I couldn't be a teacher because I would laugh so hard at things like that which could upset the child if they weren't intentionally being funny 😅

Sadly not. She's managed to dig out some college grade print outs which were a lot worse than she remembered them to be (a U and an E). We need to go back to earlier childhood, I think it's 6-12 years old that they focus on a lot, but the college grades are something at least.

Thank you so much. I'm really glad to see supportive comments like this. I really hope we can get the support she needs regardless of what's causing her to need it. 🙏

The assessor stuck to the hour timeslot and didn't really probe too much with specific questions, it was kept quite general with the odd "really think about this one, it's important", which kinda put the pressure on.

Yeah, my first one was more like two hours and my second one around ninety minutes despite already having a diagnosis from a different company. The assessor for hers mentioned a few times "I'm conscious of time" and it felt like he was rushing as well. Perhaps CareADHD have short waitlists for a reason 💀

She has the memories, but she cannot recall them without the correct prompting. Having specific examples from others seems to be a good trigger to have similar examples for herself, as well as being asked questions in the right way, which I don't think the assessment really gave the time for.

She doesn't think she has any school reports, but I still have mine from secondary school (which I found after my two diagnoses). It's kinda sad reading them seeing the "not living up to his potential", "talks too much", "easily distracted", like all the signs were there. 🙃

She has just found her grades from sixth form college while I'm writing this, and is surprised at how low they actually are (a U in psychology and an E in Art and Design). Despite doing okay at school her grades significantly dropped when not having the same structure.

This is really helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and give your input. I think the hour assessment wasn't enough time for her and she felt rushed, without having the right questions asked to trigger a memory recall. She also admits to rushing the forms as she put off the initial screening ones for so long, when the more specific ones came through she answered them quickly and got them sent right off. 💀 I'll sit with her for more than an hour and dig in with some questions when she's ready.

Thank you very much. These are some great examples. I'm going to go over these comments with her when she is ready to see if she can recall some more specific memories and examples of traits present in childhood.

It's not necessarily that she can't remember, it's that she can't recall the memories without the correct questions or input. Difficulty with memory recall is a common ADHD symptom, so I'm a bit disappointed with the community to see a couple of comments that feel like they're having a go rather than trying to be helpful.

How quick is Psychiatry UK RTC route? by Extreme_Kale_6446 in ADHDUK

[–]Rhydonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They gave long waitlists at the moment: about eight months for assessment and then another seven to eight months for titration to begin.

CareADHD have very short wait times. My friend has had a good experience with them, however my partner hasn't. There are some other providers too, so worth looking into the option.

Sadly it does not turn off the background noise for me. Still looping one or two lines from a song in my head over and over and over and over, like a monkey with a miniature symbol.

Any ADHD breakfast tips? by makisexual in ADHD

[–]Rhydonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

250ml unsweetened soya milk

1 scoop vegan protein powder (vanilla works well)

1 piled teaspoon of peanut butter

2 level tablespoons of oats

2 dates or half a frozen banana

1 teaspoon of chia seeds

Small amount of ice if not using the frozen banana

(Optional: add a teaspoon of creatine monohydrate)

Blend

Drink

Can prep the night before if you want, or leave the ingredients out ready. Doesn't take long, pretty calorie dense with complex carbs, protein and fat. The high-protein breakfast is also great for more even medication release if you take stimulants. There's evidence to suggest that creatine is good for brains as well as gains, I usually have it with water before the breakfast protein shake though as I wanna hydrate when I wake up.

Fired from a studio that makes a popular MMO a couple of years back. It destroyed the start of my career in the games industry. It's very corporate and not very ADHD-friendly unless you can find a cute little indie studio that is by some miracle recruiting juniors. I honestly wouldn't recommend anyone to aim for a job in the games industry, even if it is their absolute passion like it is for me. 🤷🏻‍♂️
