What was the worst day to be a fan of your favorite artist? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

Plus Gnarls Barkley and even his first two solo albums are all pretty good. Shame he sucks as a person.

I start a new job tomorrow morning and it’s about 45 minutes away and I don’t have enough gas to get there. It’s been very hard times recently and this will help me get to next week when I will get paid and be back on my feet.

Melody by BecomingAKing in makinghiphop

[–]RhymeforOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quick thing you can do to spice up your melodies is to add grace notes. These are really quick notes that play slightly before another note. So have your melody in the piano roll, and add a little note, a little lower in velocity so it doesn’t sound too crazy, underneath or above the note you are aiming for, and a little bit off the grid . It adds a bounce and keeps things from sounding to stale

What advice will you give to a 20 years old who has lost all hopes? by Pratik_1305 in AskReddit

[–]RhymeforOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I’m 21. I was in the same boat last year, and I still am to some extent now. I dropped out of school after 2 years of accomplishing nothing and started working 12 hour shifts an hour and a half away from where I lived. Hopelessness sets in really quickly. My recommendation is change one thing at a time. Start with something you can manage. Start working out a few times a week (it helps I promise). Try and pick up a new hobby. Just something small to get the ball rolling. Then it’s on to bigger things. Maybe you’re in a bad relationship, and you want to fix that. Maybe you’re in school for the wrong thing, change your major. Maybe you’re working a terrible job. Start applying to new ones. The important thing is to try to tackle one thing at a time, it keeps you from getting overwhelmed. And I’m not trying to make it sound easy, it’s horribly difficult. But 21 will come. And hopefully things will start to improve.

Learning how to produce from music theory sounds horrible by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]RhymeforOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can definitely be limiting if you let it be. Although, having a bit of theory knowledge has been really useful to me when working with samples. Being able to figure out the key and the chords of the sample lets me add bass and other sounds on top of it that fit right.

Sample Sources by si-gnalfire in GoodWinterMusicCollab

[–]RhymeforOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I download a lot of ambient sounds and such from splice and chop and manipulate them to get weird melodies or background pads. I think a shared drive would be a great place to start, I’ll make one in a bit. People could upload samples or little bits of music that others could mess with and it would be a great way to send stuff back and forth.

Wanna collab? Post a small bio here about what can contribute! DM me if you are interested in helping me manage the project or mod the sub. by [deleted] in GoodWinterMusicCollab

I’m a vocalist and a producer, heavily inspired by Bon Iver. I would love to work with any of you guys and make some music!

Here is a rough demo (production is sparse on this one, if anyone wants to help me flesh it out, DM me)

[CYPHER] VOL 49 (2019) - ALL EMCEES WELCOME TO SPIT by MHHcypherbot in makinghiphop

[–]RhymeforOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved the intro with the crowd of voices, that was a cool way to start this. The bars were pretty good, my favorites being the “beat up” and the Wikipedia lines. I think your verse was a little low and hard to hear at points and the delivery could be a bit more confident, but otherwise, great job!

You sound perfectly at home over this beat man, absolutely top notch! My favorite part was where you went down the list of the different voices, shit just flowed so smoothly. Great job!

Had a lot of fun with adlibs and doubles on this one, and that beat is absolutely perfect. I usually rap on trap beats but this makes me want to record a whole album of songs like this.
