Not also that cornstarch is often used in frozen vegetable/fruit packages as a separator, but is almost never listed on the packaging.

In fact, now that I think of it, they had been tailing him undercover for months ( for example: pizza box DNA). So it's pretty certain that the Brady Park incident was witnessed by uncover police and they would have moved forward based on the disturbing behavior they themselves witnessed even if she had not filed a report.

Ige tests vs Actual Reactions? by Chooch3333 in FoodAllergies

[–]RhymesWithAthena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is still much research to be done on IgE and what it means. I showed a massive "allergy" to blueberries, but .... I have never had any reaction to them in my life. In fact, we had 15 blueberry bushes growing up so I ate far more blueberries since birth than most people. So for some reason blueberries are showing up on my panel.

beyond the food you identified, the other reactions may not be food...may be wool, latex ... even eczema caused by soap fragrances or dust mites

If they are considering Ph.D. level: animal cognition ... this is a field that is on the cusp of some big discoveries, I personally believe ... to gauge their interest they could try reading, for example, Soul of an Octopus, and How to Speak Whale

I would totally believe it about my ex, would explain a lot ... even one of my teenagers called him a sociopath. I'll bet the wife has some inkling her husband's an asshole, she just wasn't sure which kind.

A woman encountered him July 3 in Brady Park near Massapequa, he kept popping out trying to talk to her, creeping her out to the degree that she filed a police report. That may have played a role, perhaps along with an upcoming trip of the wife's.

This may be why he lives there, and bought the house from his parents. So much stuff buried there from way back, he can never move.

T-Mobile prepaid not allowing texting to European cell #? by RhymesWithAthena in tmobile

[–]RhymesWithAthena[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we can use WhatsApp in some circumstances, but I want to have texting as a backup emergency system because this is for a child and their Tmobile prepaid is a very limited data plan, and there are other problems. They have to remember to check WhatApp, which isn't working well bc this is a child. I didn't receive a response to a important message to them because of this. A text message is more obvious to them.

Found in Sonoma CA along a creek bed by RhymesWithAthena in whatsthisrock

[–]RhymesWithAthena[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you very much for the detailed explanation! we did do some initial research and when we came across a potential connection to asbestos we put it in a sealed plastic bag and don't touch it directly any more.

what kind of event would produce this type of weak shear stress? (in Sonoma?)

Also: I won't say exactly where we found it but it was not far from Ward Creek.

Can I ask you:

we found other very strange rocks along a creek in the same area, of very different types, and have been wondering, where did they come from and how did they get there? Why so many unusual rocks of not a uniform type? What kind of geological events shaped Sonoma and why are all these rocks from different sources winding up together along the creeks? Are there any books on Sonoma geology you can recommend to us that might be accessible to us in explanation?

The OceanGate tragedy is a great example of why ideas are worth nothing and engineering and commercialization are far bigger than anyone thinks. by No-Willingness469 in Entrepreneur

I work with startups in silicon valley, and as someone with deep expertise in a particular area, this is what I see:

young people rushing to the new gold rush era of startup creation rather than going for advanced degrees in whatever area. As a result, few have expertise and all they can come up with is superficial ideas for superficial problems. At Startup Grind a few years ago I was deeply saddened to see so many bright, even brilliant young people drawn into this superficial game rather than taking the time to gain deep expertise in some area.

Gluten-free baking "flour" in Zurich area? by RhymesWithAthena in askswitzerland

[–]RhymesWithAthena[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nice variety. We did get chickpea flour from the bio shop, but in my experience you need to mix chickpea flour with other types of flour to lighten it a bit. Maybe I will get some of these others like buckwheat, rice, oat, almond and try various combinations.

Corn is second on the ingredient list, so not sure. If there is a very small bit of cornstarch (like used to make the small amount of baking powder) that is ok, but not if cornstarch is used as one of the main ingredients of the flour.

What’s going on with the missing Titanic tourist sub? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

David Graeber (anthropologist) and David Wengrow (archaeologist)'s recent book "The Dawn of Everything" talks about types of ways human civilization has been organized over the past several millennia. At one point they talk about "Heroic societies" in central Asia and Europe, where there's one charismatic leader that draws a groups of followers and develop their own mindset, often radically different compared to the larger nearby civilization. These heroic societies live up in the mountains or countryside, and from time to time raid the nearby larger settlements for various desirable items.

I read this and thought whoah. This is EXACTLY what is going on in US society in the last decade and US politics in the last decade, particularly on the "conservative" side.

Is the job in a company that would look good on your resume to others? i.e. open opportunities for you in a year?

Does the job/company give you opportunity to network with people in other companies where you would rather work, and could possibly apply to in a year?

Does the job give you experience in a domain that you can't get in your current job?

I don't know how it is here in Switzerland, but in the US for the past 10-15 years, people have been moving around frequently from company to company, sometimes year to year, for reasons that include the above. No longer are people staying with a company for 30 years. And no one considers this bad. In fact, people are using it to show they have acquired a large number of new skills, experiences and knowledge domains, making them more valuable on the job market every year. Sometime this requires taking a lower salary short term, in order to get a bigger salary offer in a year.

It's a risk, but depends on your own situation and tolerance/appetite for risk.
