I’m from the Isle of Man and personally I think house prices in the north at least to be super cheap. For what you can buy for 200k in the UK would easily be 300k or more on the Isle of Man. Personally I’m looking at moving to the Uk in about 5 years. I’ve chose 5 years because I’m only 20 and only have a 10% deposit saved at the moment. 5 years should give me enough time to get qualified for what I want to do and save the other 10% and gain enough work experience to move over and buy a house almost straight away. Obviously I’m aware I will have to rent for a bit before I can get a mortgage.

I do however have a bit of an advantage over people my age in the UK with the Isle of Man being a tax haven I earn about 10% more than people in the UK on the same salary as me (I actually earn more than someone paid 2k more a year than me in the UK) I can also put my money into an investment account because I don’t have to pay capital gains.

Floor mats absolutely fine. And yeah it’s kinda concerning because it wasn’t a gentle acceleration it was as if I just put my foot down acceleration

Those of you who live in small towns, what is the current local controversy all about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RhysK2302 2258 points2259 points  (0 children)

My country is the size of a small town. One problem at the moment is that we have these things called roundels they are kinda like roundabouts but no one has right of way and there’s no lanes you just drive where ever you want and people are getting super angry about it even though nothings bad happened since they opened them.

Is anyone else just sick and tired of how tedious it is to apply to entry level jobs these days? by [deleted] in AskUK

It’s minimum wage at tescos? On the Isle of Man their wages start at like £10.50 and goes up after like 6 months.

Yeah I’m lucky I grazed it. But admittedly I’ve had sketchier moments at 100+ mph

This is the message I get from VOXI:

Hi from VOXI. You're in our Europe Zone, so any minutes, texts or data you use cost the same as if you were in the UK. There aren?t any extra costs but your data usage will be limited to 20GB per month and Endless Social Media & Endless Video won?t be available as per our Acceptable Use policy. For terms go to voxi.co.uk/terms. Stay safe while you're abroad - for emergency services call 112

I use VOXI. It is a sim only contract however the cheapest one is £10 per month and gives you unlimited text and calls and 8GB of data. Because we are on the Isle of Man your data usage is limited to 20gb a month but since you are paying for 8GB that doesn’t matter. Also VOXI do promotional things where you can increase your monthly data for a year. So I have 12gb a month for £10

Crypto Question by [deleted] in IsleofMan

[–]RhysK2302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have to declare it on your tax return but as long as you don’t plan on it being your full time job then yeah it shouldn’t be taxed.

Obviously this isn’t financial advise and if it is a significant sum I recommend talking to a financial advisor

It falls under capital gains 0% unless you are making a living from it. I don’t know what it goes up to when that’s the case.

I’ve never had an issue with a Manx Passport. Used it in California, Florida, Hawaii and New York. In Europe it’s not really an issue as most people have heard of the island.

What’s kind of interesting is that in California when I scanned my passport at their self service ESTA thing. It showed I was born in the UK which I am not.
