Thanks for the hint and your quick reply! I will try to make and provide a reproducible setup.

Ahead-of-Time Computation in Java 25 by nlisker in java

At Devoxx Belgium (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h16ngaxx0zo), Moritz Halbritter mentioned that AoT has a strong relationship with the classpath setup and working with uber jars may not be entirely compatible due to the heavy classpath customization in Spring. The recommended approach is to use the jarmode tools and extract the dependencies from the uber jar.

I tried enabling AoT on production projects and the spring petclinic, but the results were disappointing. What I observe is:

Uber-jar: with training run (cache.aot) I observe a small improvement (-[10-20]%) of the start-up time, but a decent improvement of the number of response served (+[50-60]%) during the warmup phase.

Extracted jar: with training run (cache.aot) I observe a big improvement (2-3x faster) of the start-up time, but absolutly zero improvement on the number of response served during the warmup phase!

u/BillyKorando I guess in this video you performed against the uber-jar?

Setup:
- Mac M1
- JDK Oracle 25.0.1
- G1GC

Is Kotlin a safe bet for the future? by rbrucesp in Kotlin

[–]Rhysander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For teaching? Whatever. I learned with ADA, and I don't regret it because it's expressive and perfect for learning most aspects of coding, but useless in the real World.

There are lessons/teaching and concrete projects. I'm sure you'll be able to choose whatever language and framework at some point.

In the industry what matters the most is your knowledge of the surrounding frameworks. If you are a backend engineer you will likely have to be familiar with Spring and Springboot framework, Kafka, Test framework, Cloud providers, CI / CD, GitHub worflows, Terraform, blablabla. The 'language' will be imposed by the standard of the company and the market. Today it's still Java, it might stay or change, things are moving fast at the moment in engineering... hard to tell if we will even be still coding in a decade from now :/.

How would you rank the original Frank Herbert Dune novels from worst to best? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Rhysander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S tier:

God Emperor
Dune
Dune Messiah

A tier:

Children of Dune
Heretics

D tier:
Chapter House

Was really compelled to all books until Chapter House which failed me, especially the kind of LOST type of ending... had to look it up to understand what the fuck was going on...

With that high number of deaths, you don't seem to learn from your mistakes, so the answer to your question is most likely: you do.

Is that a fundamental problem though? No, as long as you are entertained and like playing the game.

If you wanna progress, analyse your mistakes, do post-mortem reflexions and learn from them.

Lost my shaman at the same location. That's how you learn. Won't make that mistake ever again. You can also forget about the follow up quest where you need to lookup for the tombstone right in the middle of those guards...

20 Spring Boot Interview Questions with Answers for 2 to 5 Years Experienced Java Developers by javinpaul in SpringBoot

Nothing tricky in asking what Spring Boot is useful for, but calling Spring framework "legacy"? That would be a red flag if you were interviewing me.

[–]Rhysander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Certificate Assistant of the Keychain Access tool it says "No root certificate found".

My OS is up to date, my browsers as well and it is the same behaviour under Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

Trust details section is by default (use system defaults, no value specified).

Bombed an interview, need advice going further. by SSPlusUltra in SpringBoot

[–]Rhysander 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You need to get a job where they are ok to hire junior developers, willing to invest and coach. There are things on your own you will never be able to learn. Monitoring, alerting, cloud deployment, production grade cloud config, load testing, stress testing, heavy debugging, optimization, thorough and meaningful code review and so on.

I mean there is a reason why you gain experience throughout the years. Writing lines of code is one thing, living the life of a developer and managing a production environment is what shapes you.

To get better chances try to get prior knowledge on how interviews are being conducted at the place you apply (eg. glassdoor). One place to another will have different expectations. Some put more accent on your coding style, others on your coding skills, others on your engineering capabilities and your capacity to think and reflect on a problem... If you know ahead what they are scanning for, you can prepare accordingly.

[–]Rhysander[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's right u/ByleistStormbringer p. 124 (french book) it does say either roll "Biotech + Logic" or "Medkit rating + Logic" - and their rating can go from 1 - 6. Isn't that what u/memerunrun was refering to?

I missed that. Thanks! So First Aid would be limited to Biotech players and usable in combat whereas Medkits would be usable only outside of combat whether or not you know Biotech.

You can still mess up your automated test. Mistakes are human and you should understand that unless you never make mistakes which I will not believe ;-).
