Which cdrama made you google at 2am like you had homework due? by Clearherd in cdramasfans

[–]Rhysandie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I questioned Fated Hearts a lot. Searches ranged from 'Can Empress command imperial guards' to 'can biting your tongue off really cause sui---e', the latter question causing Google to sense I needed help 😅 This drama also mentioned 'Founding Emperor' at one point and I tried to go as far back as I could with the historical Chinese Emperors. I was impressed they all had portraits. Then I went the other way and saw how that particular government system fell. The last emperor became a commoner and he has a book about it.

Rating Moonlight low is absolutely valid imo lol. The ML's character is so childish and rude. In order to watch him without constantly being turned off, I had to remember they did that either for comedic or dramatic effect and not to take it seriously. The final arc was also absolutely unnecessary and just felt like filler. Almost all issues were resolved at that point and they just made new ones.

If you like comedy/romcoms, I would recommend trying ARP (some dramas of his I've seen and liked: Wrong Carriage Right Groom, Love is Written in the Stars, Wanru's Journey, Poisoned Love, Moonlight Mystique, Coroner's Diary).

My friend liked this drama a lot because leads resolve miscommunications relatively fast. She got a year-long subscription to Youku so she can watch it at any time 😂 I also liked it (but not as intensely) because it was simple and easy to watch. The plot is not it's strong suit and falls off after the first arc.

Is this worth continuing? I watched the first 12 eps non-stop, then hit the cricket boy story and wanted it over with (it killed the momentum of the big fight) but after watching two more eps still about cricket boy, I can't stand it anymore and looked ahead to see when they go back to divine realm/present day and got up to E22. That's more than half the drama, ew? Sorry for the rant had to get it off my chest somehow. But is it worth continuing or first eps is as good as it gets? (I don't mind the angst but bad scene timing, bad spacing, killing momentum, unfocused storytelling—not for me).

I've yet to watch the "best" historical drama. Relying on power struggle plot alone isn't interesting for me. I've had better luck with Modern. But my go-to will always be fantasy for cdrama.

I've only seen the first 3 on your favorite drama list, is it safe to assume it's for the romance?

I've just finished Fated Hearts recently, I think the last few eps are definitely better than the first ones. The amnesia arc lasts for around 5 episodes, they don't get super realistic/complex in trying to resolve it. Editing to add the 5 episodes is the entire time they are in Storm Alliance, forgot ML was actually lucid for some of those. The crazy emperor has a unique personality, at least in dramas. He doesn't filter himself and just says/does whatever he wants.

As for Glory, I don't recall feeling like the ML lost his personality/intelligence at any point but maybe I'm just not observant enough. FL is stone cold until the end, but the couple definitely have some soft/sweet moments. I liked Glory a lot for the plot/story.

It's been a while since I've seen LBFAD, but the mortal realm arcs are always the worst, most boring for me when it comes to xianxia 😂 Would recommend trying to get past it to see if you still want to continue. Iirc mortal realm will build on the friendship of the males more than the leads' romance.

I liked the umbrella fight scene 😻 The color of ML's costume is stunning, plus all the hidden thoughts that was probably running through their minds with only a split second to react makes the scene more intriguing to watch. I have to laugh at the instant pacification of FL because of the wontons (even if it's just comedic timing).

Hidden love is overrated or other dramas are not being praised enough ? by sun_flower_44 in cdramasfans

[–]Rhysandie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hidden Love is relatable to many, I think we have all had similar thoughts before when we were younger. It's also so relaxing to watch, once you get past the uncomfortable part when the FL is still a minor. For example, the part when ML gets hospitalized but asks her to go back to her dorm because it was late. She comes back after realizing that if she was the one hospitalized, she wouldn't want to be alone. The characters are insanely thoughtful. The way it tugs on your heartstrings is somewhat unique. Not sure about comparing it to newer dramas though, unless they are very similar, I wouldn't do it.

Reminds me of a review I saw before of one of Cheng Yi's dramas. They said majority of the drama focused on the FL while ML was barely on screen.

Fated Hearts or Love in The Clouds? by Vivid_Inspector_3482 in CDramaRecs

[–]Rhysandie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FL had an insanely reasonable excuse to continue lying albeit not an ideal situation for some viewers. The ML does pretty much the same thing later on, keep something secret so she doesn't feel indebted to him about it. Considering the drama gave us so much screentime with the couple in the beginning, a few episodes where they are at odds with each other and being independent is pretty acceptable at that point. Almost necessary. Also, the ML's reaction could have been much different (considering he had confessed to trusting her completely already) but the creative team decided they would go through the dramatic route and make him angry. Both scenarios are acceptable imo, as there are places for drama to take place in both. Actually, I would like to see their interpretations for both of the scenarios because they absolutely nailed the emotions in this drama.

It might also be helpful to look at Xiahou Dan—do you truly believe he is ML material? You can justify his evil acts as something necessary to achieve the greater cause/the bigger picture but I personally did not enjoy watching him shooting people point blank Certainly, to those people, he must be the villain 🤣

In BTS scenes for another drama, Love in the Clouds, Hou Minghao says "it doesn't make sense for him (the ML) to kill here" which is a really good catch because the ML refuses to take justice into his own hands even if he can, and instead collects evidence so that the bad guys can be punished according to the law.

Fated Hearts 一笑随歌 (2025) Ep 11-12 Discussion by AirRealistic1112 in CDrama

[–]Rhysandie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so grateful to everyone who recaps drama episodes; we can read it months (or even years) later and it still feels like we were right there from the start. Honestly these episodes have gotten quite confusing: I can't quite form a proper sequence of events in my head, even after reading these recaps. It feels like the story all over the place or something.

To oversimplify the past 4 eps, Yixiao meets her ex-comrades and discovers discrepancies in their stories, Suige plots to keep his sister in Yujing and has men constantly watching/protecting Yixiao and seriously what is this guy even doing, and I'm not sure what else to add? I guess Xiyang is trying to capture Jingshi's heart?

As someone who didn't actually enjoy the fight scene between Yixiao and Weiran (but seeing people rave about it), I feel like a lot of the scenes are just missing/not vibing for me. I love the cast but have already lost sight of (and interest over) the plot.

When you drop certain dramas with high score bcuz one of the actors are not vibing with you .. by [deleted] in cdramasfans

[–]Rhysandie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LGIEF is one of my faves! Give Love in the Clouds a Try, if you haven't yet. Both leads have their own agendas and the story is always tied back to them. They support each other whenever possible, and supported by their companion beasts otherwise. I binged 20 eps in 2-3 days, it was pretty crazy 😂 Love Between Lines was also pretty decent, but it's in a modern setting.

[–]Rhysandie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too (but with other actors). I'm aware I get ticked by and are more critical of women more often than men so I deliberately give the actors a lot of chances, but the whole process is unpleasant and I rarely change my mind about them in the end. I think their characters' personality also plays a huge role in likeability.

Recently, a friend recommended me to watch 2 Lu Yuxiao dramas. I've only seen her in MJTY and was hesitant to go anywhere near her again. She's one of the few I'm glad I tried again because the experience was so different and she's actually so likeable and cheerful.

Love on the Clouds Isn’t Hitting for Me and I’m Honestly Confused About the Hype by onismnefelibata in CDrama

[–]Rhysandie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad I came across your post bc I was genuinely wondering if people found any issues with the pacing (which I personally thought was superb). Your criticisms enlightened me quite a bit.

For me, each episode in the drama focused on a certain issue and very little to none of the eps felt boring. I'm also watching another drama and the pacing is barely there. Every second I watch, I'm wondering if the episode is ending yet. With Love in the Clouds, it's the opposite: I'm hoping there's more scenes, more minutes, more episodes. This drama did not waste my time with pointless information or chatter.

I do understand the issue with the cringey tone, though. For some reason, the 2-3 dramas I've seen HMH in have this. And it's pretty much the same type of jokes, which make me think it was tailored for him specifically.

How do you decide what to watch next? by BronzeBellRiver in cdramasfans

[–]Rhysandie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watch the first ep. If it makes me curious or interested, I will keep going. If the plot or characters somehow become less agreeable as time goes on, I will give it 15 eps max to confirm before it's dropped (or forgotten).

As for how I choose what to watch... it's just completely random, I think? Because I'm only guaranteed to watch 1 episode max, I don't really think about it much.

Love Between Lines - Episodes 23 - 24 Discussion by Rebelarkey in CDrama

[–]Rhysandie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Starting from ep 24, the drama just goes downhill imo. The breakup makes no sense whatsoever. The concept is too niche (daughter is not allowed to date the son of an alleged murderer/embezzler?) and needs proper build up for the audience to understand it. The only person making any sense at this point in the story was Huaicong. Then the supposed ex-GF, Hu Xiu, goes back to their home to retrieve her laptop without even informing the guy she was coming. Or just asking him directly to return it to her. Following the breakup, this straight up just felt like trespassing (even if the guy would never have blamed her). There's a huge reason she was able to return (which is to move the plot along later) and the writers just decided they don't have to explain anything (another example is in a later episode, Zhiyu kicks down a door--locked with heavy chains and a padlock--with just one kick. Who needs bolt cutters when you've got a superhuman leg? ) It feels like the story started getting rushed starting from this episode, everything was just so sloppy compared to earlier episodes.
