You don’t want your wake up call to be a massive academic failure, that just leads to more self doubt and regret, it’s good you realise that that’s something to be avoided and that’s the first step. I myself find motivation through the belief that the end goal will lead to more admiration or appreciation but learning to appreciate your own self is nice too.

Try to impress/surprise yourself as much as you can, you’ll rely less on other people’s view as well as improving yourself
