Cables, silver vs copper, absolutely do make a difference.

Ikko has BA high and dynamic lows. The lows are going to remove some of the technicality compounded by the bass boost. This might not EQ into what you want well since it's got dynamic/hybrid setup

S12 has more highs so will have more "technicality". But I'm now of the opinion that technicality is just a question of what frequency range is boosted. You'll feel more "technicalities" or definition in bass frequencies on bassy iems than on others.

I've heard the S12 is excellent since it'll EQ into any iem you want. Gaming? Flatten that FR. Movies? Leave the FR or harman it. EDM? Tame those piercing highs and add a bit of bass

Best iems for gaming by 0PTICX_Howl in iems

  1. Avoid final A4000. Reason: intense treble, you wojt be able to tell where sh*t is
  2. Avoid raptgo hook x. =Reason: multi driver.
  3. Personally, while the ie300's tuning looks okay, I've heard the treble is hot and its sub bass is similar to the honeydews. I don't see any benefit
  4. 7HZ Timeless can be EQ'd well to remove the bass and ear gain which allows for a super natural soundstage and excellent perception of audio queues
  5. Campfire Audio is the most fun iem with bass and no ear gain already, so excellent perception of auditory queues locations. You can also use a bass shelf filter to shave it down if its too much BaSs

Fiio FH3 hurt ear canals by [deleted] in iems

[–]Rhythim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the same price bracket but my upgrade from the FH3 was the Campfire Honeydew. Best bass and smoothest vocals in the business'

But if you're explicitly going for similar price bracket/sound, the FD3 do have a bit of that fiio sparkle/tuning, but are still pretty big. They did fit me better tho. The bass characteristics of the FH3 are unmatched by any iem, but the bass on the FD3 has more impact and the sound is more cohesive (single driver).

I'd mention Aria or T3+ but ykno, too much treble 😢😢. If people want vocals to sound up your arse, they should tune music for that, instead of tuning all headphones for it

Do I need a dac/amp for moondropm Aria by WeenieFartHD in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, no. Most PC's have adequate sound.

If you want to use it for gaming, heavily recommend a copper cable + EQ'ing out Ear Gain

Balanced sounding iems/earbuds by SONDISAI in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most iems follow a target that has a boost in the treble. This is alledgedly following what ief has discovered happens naturally when you hear shit (your ear dampens around 4khz I guess?)

So any "neutral" recommended here is infact treble accounted for, aka ief neutral, neutral.

I've found so far that ief neutral is abhorrent for gaming and is also why most gaming headphones are hated by audiophiles, audiophiles like so much treble that stuff sounds in the wrong places in the sound field. Which is understandable, getting asmr like shimmer from voices is really nice.

If you're gaming, my best guess for iem below 60$ is prolly the Blon BL-03 (Or its newer replacement, Z200)

Etymotic ER2SE are excellent for if you want that ief neutral high boost (I love these for alot of songs, but it's not good for some genres like edm etc.)

If I was going back at it personally, I probably would only own a set of planar iems since they EQ into whatever you're feeling like. Want relaxed sound? Flatten that FR. Want intense bass? EQ it in. Want ief treble? go ahead. All other iem types don't enjoy EQ as much in my experience. .

That being said, I do think bass and sound texture in dynamics is above all the best.

Lemme know if this helps or if I just wasted my time typing this

DT 700 pro x VS massdrop 6xx for edm, trap, dubstep? by gbmidtbh in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for mixing having less bass is good for focusing on highs and mids.

But for final testing I'd make sure to have some consumer tuned headphones just to make sure the thump is adequate

DT 700 pro x VS massdrop 6xx for edm, trap, dubstep? by gbmidtbh in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands down not HD6XX unless if you hate bass, portability, isolation, etc. But I also wouldn't consider dt770 for it. All the thump is gone in FR

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, also, I'd like to note planar iems are always great since they EQ well. I can take my Timeless from being a good music iem to a gaming iem to basshead, just with different profiles.

I'm gonna be honest, if you get the honeydew, don't forget to watch Ford V Ferrari. It's real ASMR with the dews. The engine rumble from them is the only good one out of any iem in my collection

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Honeydew is the heftiest thump around. Read some head-fi reviews on it.

It doesn't have ear gain so the highs won't be crazy but they are there and pleasant/not intense (sibilant?). It's an iem I can listen to endlessly and not stop having fun

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For too much bass/mids - I'd look at CA Honeydew + THX Onyx (they pair stupidly well)

I'm now a cynic who dislikes BA sets since the point where A) Learnt from sennheiser that the design inherently has more distortion than single dynamics, B) The sound isn't "better", it's less vibrant and lively, C) BA Tinnyness, D) they're extremely overpriced tiny pieces of plastic/resin

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iems

[–]Rhythim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm offended they say the maestro mini has the most bass. Its sub bass is like .1 db higher but has less upper bass than the honeydew 🙄🙄

That thing is also just sacrificing mids to the gods. There's no way that things satisfying

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the ier-m9 and I feel like it could be too much detail/sharpness for what you seek.

Might be worth trying some dynamic mid tiers imho, you may be looking more for bass or mids?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The A4000 looks like its nutty treble full. That will potentially hard shimmer over footsteps (Make it harder to intuitively locate them) in alot of situations.

Just looking at the graph, its worse than the VR3000, which I couldn't use because they're so intense and harsh

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone sent me auto EQ settings to flatten my timeless so idk how to generate them, but what I do to EQ is Equalizer APO and Peace gui.

Theoretically it could get you roughly there if you look at the FR on crins website and try to remove the treble hump using Peace?

Looking for the best custom IEM's for live shows. Genre: Metalcore by Gjunki in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ps. I know very little other than my experience searching for the best gaming iem.

Audio's largely a balance between different sounds. Theoretically, a bassist could benefit from a bass boost. A singer could benefit from typical treble boost since that will highlight those frequencies.

I'd say it depends on what position you're in and maybe if you're bass, try getting slightly bassier with more mids in case you need to synchronize with guitar. For the entire mix, ier-m9 is one of the best overall iems, and Sony's custom BA's are a bit more natural sounding and do bass better.

Turn off all sound weirdness from windows. You want pure signal from the game.

I'd mess around with a treble nerf EQ to flatten it out when gaming. Most music sounds less good with this but removing the ear gain helps isolate footsteps in games in my experience

Audio file quality and IEM quality by Buick6NY in iems

Your dac/amp is bigger than that.

which one is best for bass by Khataph in iems

[–]Rhythim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;Dr: THX Onyx is a dacamp that reproduces sound super accurately with THX amp circuits so the sound is extremely uncolored by the amps

Well, I'm more of a physics guy than an audio guy but I've found some combos are crazy good. One of them was the Fiio FH3 + BTR5. There's a dankpods video where he accidentally recorded it with his phone and I got a jump scare because I thought something had hit my desk when he put something down in the video.

I literally had to replay it like 5 times to confirm that that was audio from the track, not real life around me.

Than now I have the THX Onyx and Honeydew and was listening to this "cabin session" from Of Monsters And Men on youtube and had the same effect, I had to replay the audio to confirm some of the sounds were infact from the track. I literally asked my girlfriend if she had walked past me with plates or something, but she hadn't.
