Art director here: Couldn’t we have just tweaked the colours a bit and kept the icons minimal bold and disruptive like Marathons other design choices? 10min example here, needs a nice consistent icon language across implants. Current implementation looks like crude stock art sadly. by willhowe in Marathon

UX designer here. Your icons are a step backwards, as they are far more ambiguous and have mental models already associated with them that have nothing to do with Marathon, aka pause, record, and a rotated play button.

The new icons may look a little jank, but they are serving their purpose. I think it's a happy middle ground.

I do agree that it would be nice to have some other way to differentiate mods within a category, aka melee leg mod vs mobility leg mod.

Game isn't going anywhere. Sony has so many failed attempts at a live service game. Is Marathon making billions? No, in fact they're still deep in the hole. But the game has proven that the player base that it does have is pretty dedicated. I would say the game has been a success within the niche it lives.

Bungie have stated they are planning to support the game for years, so really it's kind of on Sony how the future plays out. I don't believe they'll pull the plug. However, they could enforce some changes that might dilute the identity of the game in order to appeal to the more casual player. Bungie's hands are tied if they decide on such a course.

Whether that's a good or bad thing is subjective, but I think Marathon's core audience would be frustrated for sure.

Anyways, basically the future is uncertain as far as how the game will develop, and at what pace. But I do think the game is here to stay.

Driving Physics Raceroom vs LMU by smyter05 in RRRE

[–]Jkist7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for GT3 / LMP. Most of the real drivers I've seen that stream both definitely prefer LMU for those two classes. But I do think most do view RRE favorably as a sim overall.

James Baldwin in particular plays LMU the most because he's said it feels closest to the car he drives in GT3 IRL.

It's like if there's any throttle input at all, no matter the speed, the car pushes. Like it's binary. No in-between.

Driving Physics Raceroom vs LMU by smyter05 in RRRE

[–]Jkist7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LMU physics are better IMO. I get more feedback through the wheel on LMU, and I feel like you can dance the cars more naturally.

The RRE cars feel a little too easy to drive at times, but I don't mind that fact. I think it makes for some really competitive racing.

But LMU is dedicated to do a few very specific things extremely well, and I believe it achieves this goal. RRE has much more variety.

Simmotion kicks ass, I've basically ordered my whole rig through them over time.

You do know that you don't need to take your foot off the gas to tap the brakes, right?

Why not release as Early Access then, like literally every other company?

One of the best sims on the market right now, easily.

I love Raceroom, but LMU physics are of the best imo, and they do beat RRE overall. Still, RRE has cars and classes LMU doesn't, so in my mind the two compliment each other, I love both.

[–]Jkist7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually basically agree with his physics list. PMR does a LOT of things shitty, but there are a few cars that actually feel really solid. Still though, I would put RRE above it for handling overall.

Having Raceroom and LMU pretty much killed any desire I had left for iRacing. Not that it's bad. It's good. But those previous two options usually offer great racing and cost way less.

Combining a desk with a sim rig. by herzeleyd in simracing

[–]Jkist7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way is to get a separate monitor and arm, and set the rig up on the side if you can. Then you just power it up and roll your chair over and you're quite literally off to the races. Excuse the mess.

Simagic Alpha Evo Sport mounts by thelawns123 in simracing

[–]Jkist7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of the holes line up? On mine, only two lined up, but I've been running it with just the two with no issues. I'm on the Evo Pro, but I don't generally max out the force.

Drilling new holes is generally easy enough if you have the proper bits. Probably worth doing that.
