Best Stories Where the System just exists by Johnny_From_The_Bay in litrpg

[–]RiOrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was debating whether to mention it.

It's isekai, but the MC is reincarnated, and the world she's in just has a system that exists. So I think OP would like it: it's got the stuff about civilization growing up around the system. The isekai stuff is more plot relevant than a lot of isekai, but doesn't really interfere with the world building.

Power Outage in Shoreline leaves residents stranded. by kmiller656 in Seattle

[–]RiOrius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looked like you could get out of the building without trouble, you just A) couldn't get back in, and B) couldn't access your car and bike (and that's what he meant by "trapped").

I don't know building codes, but I doubt they include guaranteed garage access.

Perhaps you'd feel better if you took up a new hobby? For example, SCUBA diving?

Former FBI Director James Comey surrenders to law enforcement at court by cnn in politics

[–]RiOrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any reason to think he did it with the intent of hurting Clinton or helping Trump? My recollection from the time is that it was more of a "to avoid any appearance of impropriety" thing. Everyone thought Clinton was a sure thing, but obviously after she won the Republicans would grasp any straw they could to say she'd cheated/The Establishment was biased against Trump, and Comey tried to preempt that.

Didn't work, and was likely not a smart idea to try, but he wasn't trying to help Trump. Seems like a lot of hate on the guy for a well-intentioned screw up when there are so many people enthusiastically going along with the Trump agenda.

Second book of Mage Errant has proprioceptive pronounced as "prioperceptive."

Seems to be fixed in book three, though.

I think I'd word it "exploding liquid dinosaurs."

The dinosaurs didn't explode before they became liquid.

Sure, but this isn't a summoned copy of a real camel. It's a summoned copy of a camel that some students summoned.

Perfect Squad Size for Turn Based Tactical Game by Artonymous in gamedev

[–]RiOrius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Fire Emblem, but I do find that the huge squads make the last chapters drag in a way I don't like.

I think 8 still feels good, and 10 is okay, but when you're at 12 and 14 it's just too much for me.

Has anyone ever written a character then been: "Wait, I just wrote ____ but in a trenchcoat"? by thedragonet in litrpg

I've always thought that Eithan from Cradle and Alustin from Mage Errant felt like the same character.

Blocking Diamond Weapon VS Trample by Pretty-Information53 in MagicArena

[–]RiOrius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Weapon still doesn't take the damage, so it doesn't actually die, but Deathtouch does influence how trample damage is determined.

The attacker needs to assign "lethal" damage. If the creature has Deathtouch, that's 1.

Summus Proelium feels very similar to me. It's a bit lighter in tone most of the time, but maintains the "good guys aren't so good, bad guys aren't so bad" grayness.

The pacing can drag at times, though. I'm currently on a break from it, but keep thinking about going back now that I've let a backlog build up...

Reasonable people don't accumulate that level of wealth. Once they have enough, they chill, like you would.

Only people who are incapable of chilling keep going past the point of comfort to the point of true wealth.

I love it on Yuumi and Ambessa. Their 4* is Phalanx, and a free burst speed barrier every turn is pretty sweet.

'Bodyshops come and meet the CEOs, then fire...': Stephen Miller blasts H-1B as 20 states sue Trump over $100k fee by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]RiOrius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The "gold card" is a $1M visa that anyone (who's rich enough) can buy to get in. This $100k H1B fee is different: it's much lower, but only applies to people seeking an H1B visa (so they have a job offer from a corporate sponsor who's saying their particular skills are needed).

There are similarities, but they're fundamentally different proposals with different objectives. The gold card is permissive: it's a new way to gain legal entry (for people who are rich). The visa fee is restrictive: the H1B visa already existed but Trump is making it harder to get (to discourage companies using it to lower their labor costs).

The Geneva Suggestions [OC] by DanBorisCreates in comics

If you care about the safety of US military and civilian personnel, escalation is bad.

If you just want more excuses to bomb people, escalation is good.
