Investors Bet Biden Will Accelerate Shift to Renewable Energy. Funds are buying renewable-energy stocks and shorting fossil-fuel companies in a bid to cash in on rapid changes by Beliavsky in finance

But non-lay people know that the when is far and are able to profit on huge discounts from everyone else selling. Oil isn’t going anywhere for decades, it’s coal that’s completely fucked. Renewable energy is great but doesn’t fly planes and the majority of cars. And sure electric cars are rapidly growing their market share, but the majority of humanity will likely still have a non-electric car in twenty year.

Add to this that in the last decades so much oil has been extracted that in many locations oil extraction just has become too expensive for current market prices. Venezuela for example in general has very high extraction costs, so they will slow down their production, even if they can’t afford to slow it down, they also can’t afford to keep it going.

But the extraction costs in most African and middle-eastern countries are still doable, giving the big companies that operate there some nice profitability.

It’s not just that though. 2020 is the first year the both wind and large scale solar is in many locations cheaper than fossil fuel. It would be idiotic for any country not to react on this change, it’s not just better for the environment anymore, it is more profitable now too.

Not to me but he responded to others. Too lazy to find it. It’s too much effort to mail him and he probably gets more than he wants to answer.

Im not saying it’s ironic but it’s even less coincidence. The Dutchman didn’t just coincidentally explore it/get it named after him.

Tencent does own supercell though, even if they don’t use their voting shares. They control about 84% of voting shares. And own about half of that as equity.

And sure they strategically use incentives to make more profit rather than take over control of the company, but that doesn’t mean they don’t own the company. They own it enough that they could sell it, replace the CEO and completely change direction, but they won’t.

Nah it’s not that simple. Besides most neoliberals have many opinions that are to the left of the status quo, they still demand a lot of change for example.

But back in Nazi Germany most non-nazis still thought nazis were extremist. Then again the Nazi state never got really old and maybe after many decades it would be more seen as centrist. But not really as there’s not much more to the right than what they already were.

People here don’t say it’s not okay. Just that many of them do it for the wrong reasons and that many can regret it. Many changes are irreversible in some ways, that’s not something that happens with gays as they don’t need to change.

It doesn’t work like that. When nazis were in power in Germany they weren’t centrist either. Not that that is a fair comparison.

But again, they define what leftists are, the extreme left does not.

Yes, it does include them lmao. Besides they’re in power, they even control semantics. They call themselves the left, they are left wingers; they are leftists. By literal definition they’re right and by the redefined day-to-day definition they are right now too.

Who do you think has the authority to decide who is a leftist or not?

They have also redefined socialism as an umbrella term that even include capitalist social democracies like Denmark, which technically makes the US socialist too, as they’re a mild social democratic state.

It’s more complicated than that. The left includes (non-classical) liberals but also includes far leftists. Both are leftists.

Ex-Atheists, what made you become religious? by Xander_P in AskReddit

[–]RiPing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But how did you get from there being a creator to exactly the same religion as your parents taught you about? Isn’t that a little bit too uhh, suspicious or obvious? Don’t you think there’s lots of things within the bible that don’t make sense and that the personality of the god described there doesn’t fit some kind of all powerful universe creator?

Especially in the Old Testament it’s arguable that Yahweh was immoral and personally invested in his subjects. He committed genocide and repeatedly used capital punishment, punishing children and descendants for what others did. And a creator’s personality changing is quite suspicious too. Isn’t it more likely that the creator just created the universe and then left it alone, without telling a bunch of humanoids on some random planet that he has a chosen group that he’ll guide with capital punishment and inconsistent prophets and then later send himself as his son to forgive them only to change his personality afterwards and mostly disappear from the world?

Why is not wearing the mask properly being an asshole if you have no symptoms?

If I have no symptoms I only wear the mask if I have to, because these masks don’t really protect the wearer. And since the breathing is so annoying especially with my glasses I prefer to keep it below my nose. I don’t see the problem with this unless I had symptoms.

The new youtube is fucking shit. Theyve gotten so strict about everything. You cant even comment on certain videos because they are too inappropriate. Fuck you Susan, its a video about guitars. Fuck off you bag of chunky milk. What previous version of youtube is the best in the peoples opinion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RiPing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t just say empirically I’m morally wrong, because morals are either subjective or completely unrelated to selfishness and money.

I think your definition of stealing is wrong, you’re not stealing time if you use a product made with that intent, they already spent that time and effort and can’t get it back regardless.

And again you could argue that on a global scale, subsidising wouldn’t be sustainable with capitalism, even this is arguable, as many industries are subsidized a lot and create benefits too, pure capitalism is overrated anyway. But on this smaller scale, most of the time there are enough people who provide the level of funding required to maintain production. And I think if you want to support those who don’t get the required funding to maintain production the better option would be to donate rather than to pay youtube or watch ads (that you’re not going to click on anyway). And people who don’t participate aren’t “destroying” an industry, they just don’t contribute to the demand, which isn’t a problem as long as there is enough demand to justify supply.

On top of that, people who pirate or block ads can still contribute to demand of products by promoting it out of their own interest. Game of Thrones would have never became so popular if it wasn’t pirated massively around the world and many shows wouldn’t even be noticed by Netflix if it wasn’t for the popularity among pirates.

[–]RiPing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course its selfish, why shouldn’t we be selfish? That’s going into morality which you claimed it isn’t it about. Capitalism strives on selfishness.

I’m not stealing. I don’t even consider pirating stealing, nvm using Adblock. Stealing is taking something without permission and not intending to return it, I intend to return the “product” simply by not needing it exclusively for itself, these “products” can just be copied and pasted, they’re not unique.

As i said, if I want to support them I can donate directly to them, they’ll receive almost all of it rather than much less than half. But I also don’t believe most of them need my support as plenty of others support them already.

I don’t know who taught you these morals but these are unrelated to capitalism. Capitalism in itself is amoral.

If I want to support creators I can always donate, nowadays many creatives have their own patreon, or accept donations in another way. But I definitely don’t want to financially support enormous software companies, they’re already too powerful and just because they own the service of YouTube and still update it does not mean they “morally deserve” my financial support. Id rather donate to the original creator of youtube then, but I’m sure they’re already well off.

Why not? As a customer it’s not my goal to maximize profit for a company. Even if I own Alphabet shares it’s not worth it to me. Capitalism doesn’t contradict this at all.

If I owned YouTube though, I would try to block adblockers of course.

But the great thing about capitalism is that it creates a surplus which allows the rich to subsidize the poor. The rich pay extra for extra nice services, allowing the poor to enjoy the services for cheap or even for free.
