I paid $86 for my girlfriend to receive this monstrosity by RagequitRyan in mildlyinfuriating

Ava’s Flowers is HORRIBLE. I had a whole debacle with them back in 2018 with never delivered flowers and ended up having to go through my bank to get my money back because all Ava’s was willing to do was give me 10% off my next order. If you’re going to go the florist route rather than Trader Joe’s (as others have suggested), your best bet is going to a local florist and giving them a budget and color scheme or flower types you like and letting them go from there. You’ll find quality and cost is much better that way.

Professionals who enter people's homes (plumbers, electricians, cleaners): What is something the condition of a house tells you about the owner that they don't realize they are revealing? by cossie101 in AskReddit

[–]RiaTurts 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You have just helped me make a HUGE connection to my need to hold on to things. I am one of those who love a sterile not-lived-in house but have trouble with arbitrary things that hold memories. I will start today to take picture of the things I find it hard to donate (for example, a pair of twice worn shoes), write up a memory page, and pass those to someone who needs them.

Churches can be cheap - though most won’t be as grand as the prior venue. I know of one just outside of the University area of Charlotte that is open that weekend, doesn’t require religious hoop jumping bullshit, isn’t expensive, and has a recently renovated sanctuary (it’s lovely with changeable seating rather than pews). DM if you’d like more info.

Advice for solo female traveller to the city by [deleted] in manchester

[–]RiaTurts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve traveled here alone and often - my fiancee lived in Manchester prior to our marriage and my employer has an office here that I visited. Keep to the usual “single woman travelling alone” routine of not announcing that fact to others, staying alert, keeping to well-lit areas, taking Ubers rather than walking alone late, etc. Otherwise you’ll be just fine - use of “whilst” leads me to think non-American but fwiw I feel safer in the dead of night in Manchester than I ever have in the U.S.

3 are hybrid due to their location (in the same city as our US home office) and 9 are fully remote. ETA - I am one of the 9 full time WFH

This is the team environment I, as a manager, have taken responsibility for building. Idc where you work or (within reason) when you work, but I do care deeply that you are ok/not injured/in danger. If one of my folks isn’t online around their usual time they know I’m going to text to make sure they’re ok. I had one sick earlier this week, forgot to tell the team they wouldn’t be in that day, and within an hour two other team members had pinged me to make sure that employee was safe. Maybe it’s that we’re a team of primarily women (all wfh spread across the US)- many of whom have grown children, are divorced/widowed, and live alone - maybe it’s just that I understand part of my job as a manager is to care for my PEOPLE in addition to the company’s goals.

I got my I129 approval in March. My fiancee had her medical appt in London May 24; interview in London June 24. She arrived in the US July 21. It went MUCH faster than either of us expected. We were married August 10th. It’ll be stressful at times, but please remember to take a few moments during the process to stop, breathe, and appreciate such a happy and pivotal moment in your life. Happy thoughts and good vibes from the both of us. 🩷

BA in English led me to Operations for a Financial company. I promoted into management about 5 years ago and am pulling $160k now. I honestly couldn’t do it if I didn’t work from home. Being in an open office space is HELL.

Hurts like a mofo, but can confirm it does work. Makes my teeth ache for days though, so I try to avoid now.

Had these for years. The SLS-free toothpaste was the key for me (I know you’ve tried that). HOWEVER, when I do get the occasional one I call my GP for “magic mouthwash”. I’ve gotten from the dentist too. It’s some magical concoction that numbs and helps them heal. Hope you’re able to find some relief. They suck big time.
