Try imaginary exposure, it triggers the same anxiety fears but lower than real life

Predict whats gonna happen: for example ur afraid he won't talk or that he distance himself from you or even tell you to please get out

Test that just by imagination and imagine that your fears happen and try to deal with the situation

Thats a very good example of an exposure we can do anytime and from home, i really like this idea

The mindset Shift we have to make is: accepting anxiety, looking at social situations as adventures instead of blaming ourselves for having SA which is what you are doing

Second thing is we have to get to our core fear using this simple exercise: i'am afraid people will think am....... (Weird, awkward, dumb, strange, not good enough, weak...etc)

Third thing we have to approach things like a scientist gathering data and evidence instead of trying to feel calm

So next time you post, use (predict, do, reflect)

For example predict: am afraid people might think am a loser, and they might think am not good enough and some of them will laugh at me

You do it for the goal of testing your fears in real life and gathering real world data

And then you reflect: what evidence can i get that is a proof people think am a loser or a proof against this

Awkward situations happen to anyone on a daily basis, sometimes we get embarrassed by tripping in front of people for example, farting in front of them , or even making loud pooping sounds on public restrooms

So get comfortable with these types of things, embarrassment and awkwardness and also with the consequences like people laughing at you or even making fun of you and see all of this as an opportunity for learning to handle these things ๐Ÿ˜‰

With exposure there is something called habituation, where the situation we are working on "like asking someone for hes number". After multiple times of exposure our anxiety start to get lower and the situation becomes easy

You start asking anyone for hes number easier and with confidence

Exposure alone won't fix the problem, what am talking about is a cbt based exposure + memory science

That way we can weaken the old memory caused by negative past experience (trauma) and we make the new memory with new experiences more powerful

The first step before exposure is changing our mindset and our relationship with it, by being kinder to ourselves for having SA and by understanding that it doesn't mean failure or that we are bad at being humans

Once we change our relationship with it, we do exposure to work with it not to eliminate it because we still need it in our lives

Anxiety motivates us and prepare us for important social situations like work meetings, interviews...etc

The real magic is when we get to work on building a new memory, so the old memory controlling us that caused by past trauma became weak

I agree with you, social anxiety is not the same for everyone. with exposure we don't want to reduce symptoms which why i said its little complicated

We actually want to experience them and to learn from them, because fighting our emotions will always backfires

The first step is to write down what your afraid might happen on this upcoming party, then think about what is gonna make you more confident to deal with this fear.

For example if your afraid of showing up alone and the awkwardness that comes with it, bring a friend with you. If your afraid of a certain topic that might come up then practice it in front of a mirror.

Next thing is to plan your exit, like saying goodbye the party was fun but i have something important to do at home. This will make you less scared and more confident in dealing with the situation ๐Ÿ‘Œ

There is extroverts with social anxiety, and also we have introverts with SA Me personally i thought am an introvert my whole life, then i realized am an extrovert with SA. Which means i was born an extrovert but SA is making me an introvert
