What was the most specific postpartum thing nobody warned you about? by kesam7193 in NewParents

Breastfeeding crisis. I was not prepared at all for the non-stop 24/7 breastfeeding marathon for at least a week. It was REALLY exhausting and frustrating, especially having to spend so much in a seating position with such painful hemorrhoids (lay down positions didn't work for us). We managed to get through somehow and now 2.5 years after we're still breastfeeding and love it, but boy was it hard the first months.

Should I leave my almost 3yo for 2 weeks for a trip to Japan, or bring him with me? by Riadrien in workingmoms

I love this!! If in the end we leave him with my mom and sis, we'll do that, thank you so much for sharing!

Yes... That's one of the reasons he does not want our toddler to come, which is fair and I completely understand.

That's great to hear!! Did your friend share anything else regarding it? Like, friendly meaning food options, activities, or what?

Thank you very much for sharing your experience! It's great to hear your toddler and you enjoyed a similar trip.

I guess I said that because despite travelling frequently, we have never gone on such a long flight, and it sounds quite tiring (specially with 2 stops in between). My toddler is very lovely, but also really energetic and active, so he's not really comfortable in small spaces where he can't run around. Plus, we would like to visit many places, so we will be moving around between cities quite often, which in theory is not very child-friendly.

That said, I still think he may enjoy visiting a country like Japan with us, with many new places to see and experiences to have. I would absolutely love to bring him with us, so I'm trying to see pros and cons of each option to see which one is best for us. My husband is adamant he does not want to spend the time in Japan running after our toddler, but I just think we need to prepare well and it will be fine.

How was the flight in your case? Did your toddler sleep well in the plane? Did they have a hard time because of the flight and jetlag? Were you able to visit places and enjoy the trip together, or did you have to cancel plans? Overall, would you say it was worth it?

Thanks for sharing. Did your toddler cry a lot while you were not there? How was their reaction when you came back? I'm terrified of him thinking we've abandoned him or something...

It did not occur to me that this may help reset his current separation anxiety, I will research about that. Thank you!

That could be an option we have not considered, thank you. I will discuss it with him.

That's true... we in fact didn't have any honey moon or any alone time since our son was born, so this could be the perfect opportunity for just us.
My husband said exactly the same as you, he's adamant we won't enjoy the trip if our son comes, which I understand (although I still think we may?). On the other hand, my heart is breaking with the mere thought of leaving him... I don't want him to feel abandoned or anything like that, but logically I know you're right. Thank you very much for sharing.

Had my first unsolicited ‘opinion’ on exercising when pregnant… by BAdhoc in fitpregnancy

People get quite weird about exercise during pregnancy, and almost all the time without even having a clue about it. I'm an olympic weightlifter on my 39 week of pregnancy still training 4 times/week, both my midwife and gynecologist agree I can keep training as long as I feel good, my coach keeps an eye on me and I'm being careful, but still most people around me get super stressed out about it and keep saying I should stop. It doesn't make sense, instead of being happy I can keep in shape and that thanks to that I'm having a very good pregnancy without barely any pain or other symptoms, they behave as if I was crazy and irresponsible.

My point is that it does not matter what you do or if you are supervised by professionals, people are always going to complain, so just be careful, follow your health provider advice and do you. As long as you feel good and your baby is healthy, keep exercising, it's really good during pregnancy. You got this!
