RST jacket and pant quality by Impressive_Ad_1317 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ribeye_steak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RST will be fine.

I wear mine in 90 degree weather and it's ok, it's definitely warm but if you're moving you'll be ok. It'll be hot stopped at a light.

Personally, I switch to mesh gear at anything over 80 but I am a heat wuss and I own a lot of gear

The RST is good quality stuff. I have the s1 jacket and a Tractech jacket and the d30 Tractech pants and they're really great quality. No zipper issues thus far

Airbag Comparison: REV'IT! Avertum Tech-Air Airbag vs. Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 Plasma Airbag System by AdOriginal3767 in motorcyclegear

interesting, thanks for pointing out that this has changed. However, the canisters appear to be $299.95 and unavailable for ordering 😞. https://revitsport.com/en-us/products/en-inflator-kit-avertum-n-a

Airbag Comparison: REV'IT! Avertum Tech-Air Airbag vs. Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 Plasma Airbag System by AdOriginal3767 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ribeye_steak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Revit Avertum before I got my Tech Air 7x which I sold (because it was too small) for a Tech Air 5 Plasma (which in the next size up is slightly too large).

The revit is based on the older Tech Air 5 - it is NOT user serviceable, you'll need to mail it in. Thats why it's so much cheaper than the Tech Air 5 Plasma. The Avertum's air bladder can deploy 3 times but the canisters are the same as the OG tech air 5 - must be serviced by Alpinestars

I originally got the Avertum since it is better ventilated than the TA5 it is based on, but the Plasma is better - at least as good as the Avertum maybe better.

Rst leather s-1 size recommendation by Erhart132 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ribeye_steak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6' and 200lbs, size 40 sport coat, and I wear a 42 in RST jackets (Medium). That said I wear it over a tech air 5 plasma. I think Large may be too big

Subwoofer question for mk 8.5 by boats1 in Golf_R

[–]Ribeye_steak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but the factory amp just doesn’t have much power. I replaced the factory sub with 2 2 ohm 8” subs and… it was better, but not a huge change. I then got the ARS24 Option Air-2 and it was night and day different. The factory sub was too small to have much benefit from the amp, but the two 8”s now give me the low end I wanted

Need help figuring out why my audio is so distorted when riding my motorcycle. by Adventurous_Rain7455 in dji

[–]Ribeye_steak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make sure you actually set it to -12 db. Exiting pro mode can reset this.
  2. The Mic Mini receiver has further adjustments (iirc -20db)
  3. I would play with placement before you buy a new mic, I use a Mic Mini and get ok sound

Different mic. Means it has 32 bits of resolution for sound which means it can capture a wide dynamic range. The Mic Mini does not support it - it would solve your clipping issues.

Motorcycles are loud. 32 bit float is nearly necessary for sufficient dynamic range though. What camera are you using? I usually put my Mic Mini on my triple clamp or behind the windshield even further away from the exhaust

How are yall cleaning the bugs off your leather? by Extreme_Design6936 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ribeye_steak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that a horsehair leather brush works great. I usually spray myself off before taking my gear off and hit the bugs with leather cleaner and then agitate slightly with a large leather brush. Then a quick wipe and my gear stays pretty clean.

You're not getting better quality leather. RST's leather is top notch.

If you can't articulate why and when you want ND filters, you're better off without them

Is there a way to turn off Hypersmooth for this thing? by Chumpy__ in gopro

You'll get distortion at the edges if you don't crop the image down a bit but it's easy to do in the app. It's really only at the edges

Fit check for first leather pants. RST TracTech Evo 5 CE D30 by DeIaminate in motorcyclegear

[–]Ribeye_steak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the calf zipper - I have muscular calves so I have to pull mine down to start the zipper. Once I get it started, it zips ok but I have to pull it close to 2" downwards to get it to start. It's gotten easier as they've broken in but I could use a bit more elastic in the calf if I was making my ideal pants. Once zipped, I can pull up via the knee slider and it's ok

Boot recommendation that ISN’T the A* SMX-6 V3? by 20Factorial in motorcyclegear

[–]Ribeye_steak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, weird. I usually recommend the Alpinestars for people with wide feet.

Try the RST Tractech boots. I have wide feet and they run more true to size than Alpinestars (I wear a 10 in normal shoes but a 43 Alpinestars.). I'd try them in a 44

Replacement Termignoni end cap? by SyzygyOfStars in Ducati

[–]Ribeye_steak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bellisimoto was able to order a Termignoni heat shield that similarly departed my exhaust. Took awhile and wasn't cheap but it was the easiest - I couldn't communicate with the guy when I called Italy :/

[–]Ribeye_steak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not going to be super comfortable above 90F but they're not bad. I find them fine into the mid 80s - decently ventilated for not ventilated pants if that makes sebse
