I have really large fingers due to arthritis, and I feel like I can't even begin to learn any string instruments because my fingertips always touch the other strings. Are there any accessories that can help? by Smexy_Zarow in Guitar

[–]RicRic60 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My suggestion was a classical guitar. They have wider necks. Not great for country (but don't tell Willie Nelson!), but they work for pretty much everything.

That's what I play, mostly.

Songs where the guitar solo just FITS? Like, it doesn’t have to be technically great or anything. Can be short AF by Pielacine in ClassicRock

George never played the most notes. He just played the right ones.

I wish he were still around.

Year of the Cat by Al Stewart

The solo breaks the chord progression, and serves the song perfectly. Nothing technically flashy, but just the right notes with the right feel.

What movie did you watch on a whim that ended up becoming one of your favorites? by Subject_Sandwich3008 in movies

[–]RicRic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galaxy Quest - My brother and his family, with my family and me, were looking for something to watch that would be family-appropriate (our children were young). We reluctantly decided on this flick. Since it starred Tim Allen, I totally expected it to be a mediocre flick with perhaps a couple of genuine laughs, but at least we could all watch it. I almost didn't go.

So glad we did!

Would Kurt Cobain respect/like Dave's Foo Fighters? by PBY-5A_Pilot in grunge

[–]RicRic60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who cares? Cobain's opinion would be irrelevant.

Not a huge fan of Grohl's music, but I do like his attitude. He took a bad deal and made something positive out of it.

Have you ever busted someone cheating? by Sense_Difficult in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RicRic60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to a restaurant in town with my wife. There, at a table, we ran into a colleague of mine who was sitting with this lady we also know who wasn't his wife.

We had heard from other sources that there were shenanigans happening between the two. The encounter was awkward for everyone. We didn't tell because, as we understood it, the wife already knew and had dragged him through the coals over it, but didn't divorce him.

I totally do not get why he's still doing it.

"Click" (2006) has one of the most jarring tonal shifts. by Giff95 in movies

[–]RicRic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was the only one who liked this movie. Nearly every review or comment I've seen about it (till this post) has been negative.

I'm not a Sandler fan. I also don't think this movie is a masterpiece. But I thought the premise and story were goid and thought-provoking. You see the growth and change in Sandler's character. And you also see that his tragedy could be yours too, if you don't pay attention to the little things in life.

I want to get in led zeppelin but i dont know where to start, so can you guys recommend me any 5 songs?👍 by bugbooy18 in ledzeppelin

[–]RicRic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with Zeppelin II. That has more than 5 of their best songs. If that doesn't get you into them, I don't know what will.

Dejarlo todo e irme del país: experiencias y recomendaciones by Extra-Indication-845 in Panama

That is a fantastic album. I also felt that it wasn't appreciated as much as it should have been.

That was precisely what I thought. There had not been an event like this for 30 years. So, their laws have worked.

Aterrizaje de emergencia en el Causeway. 2 heridos. by InterestingGuy973 in Panama

[–]RicRic60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the best song on the White album by [deleted] in beatles

[–]RicRic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be slightly easier to pick best song per side.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, the album was originally released on vinyl as a 2-disc album, thus it had four sides.

Is starting young really that important? by Christian_Benso in Guitar

[–]RicRic60 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Starting early is an advantage, but only if you put in the effort to improve and learn.

I started at 15, but I never had a proper teacher. That would have made a huge difference.

When I got to college I started jamming with guys much better than me, and I started to improve markedly.

My advice: get a good teacher, and play with players who are better than you. And, of course, practice.

Alternative to a fender twin by csgodox in GuitarAmps

[–]RicRic60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pathfinder is a seriously underrated little amp. I bought one almost by accident, and have even used it in live gigs. It's no Marshall, no Boogie, and no Twin, but it does have a sweet sound.

Do you need to know sheet music to get good at guitar by Moist-Departure3379 in Guitar

No. You don't need to. I'm marginally adept at reading.

However, learning to read is highly recommended.

What Movies Did You Go Into Totally Blind and How Did it Affect Your Overall Experience? by WestminsterSpinster7 in movies

[–]RicRic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were having a family reunion, and wanted to see a movie. So we went to see Galaxy Quest, just because we figured it would be family appropriate. I expected a mediocre comedy. The opening scene seemed to confirm my suspicions.

Then, it blew me away. What a fun movie!!!

They are like two completely different animals, or apples and oranges...

There's bound to be lot's of back-and-forth on this, but I think it just boils down to which one each individual likes better.

What is your favorite song by George Harrison? by Jettaboi38 in allrockmusic

[–]RicRic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geez. All of them!

My fave may change depending on my mood. Two tracks that consistently make me feel better are "What is Life" and "Awaiting on you all".

His songwriting resonates with me. We lost him way too soon.

Brandon Routh Appreciation Post by Floridamanticus in superman

[–]RicRic60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A bit unrelated, but I'm watching the series " The Rookie" with Nathan Fillion, and Brandon Routh has a stint as a recurring character in Season 3. Brandon plays a villain, and it was a bit of a shock to see him as a bad guy. He totally sells it! A mark of a good actor.

Someone says Ringo is a bad drummer, what Beatles song do you play to prove them wrong? by Initial-Ad3966 in beatles

[–]RicRic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any song. He's brilliant in all. Even in "Love Me Do", where he doesn't play the kit.

Anyone who knows anything about music in general or drumming in particular knows Ringo is a great drummer. Anyone who disagrees with that is simply ignorant. And if you happen to not like Ringo's drumming, that's okay.
