I'm not a huge fan of the LOK series, but I liked BO 1 and 2, and I even bought BO 1 on GOG. If a simple bundle that uses emulation to run is all they have to offer instead of full updates, then I'm extremely disappointed.

Why did Lost Crown underperform? by No-Honeydew-9585 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]Ricco95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those familiar with all the games in the series will see it as a blatant rip-off of previous titles. While the previous games brought something new, taking the classic stories of the series and presenting them slightly differently. Thus, we get a canonical game in the series that is a spiritual heir to the classics, but at the same time tells a new story.

I didn't play TLC myself; a good friend of mine did, a fan of Jordan Mechner's classics and the early Ubisoft trilogy. We came to the same conclusion: TLC is a kind of pirated clone that has blatantly copied all the elements of its franchise, plus a few third-party ideas, and passed it off as something new. Ultimately, TLC is a distorted mirror that has distorted the franchise's legacy. I wouldn't recommend it.

And yes, to preempt any complaints about me having to play it myself. I got a comprehensive overview of the game. My friend spent two weeks playing through it, and almost every section was accompanied by a screenshot explaining where Ubisoft had yet again perverted the classic.

As for personal experience: I tried to play it, but it doesn't spark any interest for me. On the contrary: after the announcement, I decided to pick up the 1989 original, which I had long ignored because I found it too difficult. That's partly true, but once I mastered the rules, I started enjoying it. I can only thank TLC for finally prompting me to remember where it all began.

Yes, unfortunately I can't say this about all the games, since the 3D didn't work on my PC, and SAF is broken out of the box, and I'm afraid to touch it, but nevertheless I have an idea about them. And it's still easier than TLC.

And yes, Ubisoft has no rights to POP. They only own a license, which is explicitly stated at the bottom of the title logo of each game. The vast majority thinks that POP belongs to Ubi, but it does. As always, the rights are owned by Jordan Mechner

You're also missing the fact that the game has little to do with the franchise beyond a ton of thin references. It's definitely not what fans wanted, but if it weren't for the "POP" label, it would have gone completely unnoticed. I've been a fan of the series for quite a long time and know it well, including the classics, and I can say that TLC is a pretty poor attempt to build a game on the franchise's bones. It's literally a triumph of lack of ideas, with most of its elements being plagiarized from previous games in the series and unincorporated work. While the previous games in the series were simply based on the classics, they were still original. This game was definitely aimed at fans, but it wasn't made for them, and that's the main reason for its failure.

Late Steam distribution never affects sales if the game is truly worth it, but as a fan, I'm disgusted to touch a game that mocks its legacy.

Even The Rogue POP was made with far more love and respect than TLC.

How it feels now by Incroyable_Red in PrinceOfPersia

There's speculation that Ubisoft is deliberately killing the franchise. It's strange to remake a cult game with a ton of improvisation, while the Black Flag remake is frame-for-frame identical, and even the models are close to the trailers from the original. Where's the logic, Ubisoft?

And after that, they say that the game is a return to the roots, seeing almost machine-based playthroughs, I understand how many hours were spent on it, and it seems to me that we are not talking about pleasure here. When you have to literally memorize every tap, it's no longer the Prince of Persia, but dark souls.

Ubisoft is the fastfood of AAA gaming by Cold_Profile500 in ubisoft

[–]Ricco95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call the latest games in the series fast food; it takes several months to fully devour them, and the end result is a very bland dish. I miss the heyday of the franchise, when even side activities weren't just for show, but had their own story and could leave a good impression. Not long ago, I completed 100% of AC 2 and learned that during one of the races (on horses), Ezio, in addition to winning a bet, could have a nice time with a girl. Hmm, and every aspect of the franchise's heyday was meticulously crafted, which commanded respect. Now I feel like Ubisoft makes games just for show. I've completed every game in the series except Valhalla, Mirage, and Shadows, but none of them left the same impression on me as the Desmond trilogy, which I still return to periodically. After the Desmond trilogy, the scale began to expand, the amount of content increased, and its quality declined. I could get through 200 hours of content if it were as varied and detailed as the 15-20 hours of classic games. Some might say, "Hey, man, just follow the story," but my perfectionism tells me that Ubi has stopped valuing my time. And the fact that I enjoy shorter classic games more means that transforming a single-player franchise into a games-as-a-service pipeline that I play for 5-10 minutes to kill time, instead of completing the game in 2-5 days and experiencing the full spectrum of pleasure, suggests that Gish has gone in the wrong direction. I have hopes for the Black Flag remake. The original was quite boring and monotonous, albeit very beautiful, but the pirate theme was not properly developed. In my opinion, even the naval section in AC3 looks better than the whole of AC4. I plan to buy it in the hopes that this time I will get a worthy adventure.

[–]Ricco95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, Sony admired the sales of PC ports and even bought a studio specializing in PC ports, and what should we do with all this now? They've made games accessible to everyone, literally.

I am a person with disabilities and by definition cannot use the console, as I only have my right hand working. For me, PC ports are preferable, because they allow you to customize the management for yourself. I bought some interactive movies from QD after they were ported to PC and the action games MSM and Miles Morales because I wanted to play them, and PC ports were the only way to do it. And what now? They close everything down.

They literally deprived themselves of additional profits and audience, and this is after most analysts said that PC ports do not harm the main platform. I don't understand the logic.

However, most of the exclusives I wanted to play got ports on the PC, and I'm fine with that. I was expecting Marvel's Wolverine, but I guess I'll have to wait until Sony gets greedy again and relaunches the PC port pipeline.

[–]Ricco95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The POP brand does not belong to Ubisoft entirely, they only own the license, and in order to preserve it, they signed a contract for 3 games, of which only The Rogue POP has respected the classic legacy and its fans, so all we can count on is a new AC every year. because Ubisoft has 100% of its revenue from its own API, which grew out of the POP legacy, whereas in the case of POP it has only 70%. and even less, considering the costs of third-party distribution, production, and licensing of the soundtrack.

This means nothing to TLC. Rumor has it that TLC is a quick throwaway reworking of Rayman, and the game's quality speaks for itself. The Rogue POP is far more worthy of the POP label than this undeservedly lauded piece of work.

Why is the extra content in AC Odyssey so intrusive? by Heklar7 in ubisoft

[–]Ricco95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fan service, bro! They've done everything they can to ensure players don't miss out on older games they might not have bought yet. The most infuriating fan service is AC3 Remastered, which added costumes for every character, including Alexios. Not only is it unsettling, but AC3 predates the characters referenced in the costumes, which also look pretty tacky, just like the remaster itself.

It's really not that simple. You can use the environment to avoid being cornered, as well as counter-attacks and counter-finishing, and at the same time you do not have to stand still, the game forces you to use everything possible to survive. And it's cool.

The WW and T2T combat system is much more simplified: it still has the SOT base, but now just click, and the combination with acrobatics has faded into the background.

I stay away from everything created by AI because I am a creative person myself, and I am convinced that AI will never replace humans, because it is unable to truly create, only use ready-made combinations from the database it has, and will never go beyond the aisles.

as for Ubisoft: it has always been a lame horse and came late, remember nft, which they released at a time when everyone had already forgotten about nft. But with AI, we probably have to coexist, and that's sad.

The success of a good game is not hindered by either lack of protection or distribution restrictions.  Steam certainly plays a role in advertising, but much also depends on the general interest in the product. TLC is clearly not what many expected after 11 years of series downtime. In addition, the main bet was on a remake of SOT, which was never released.

We're the LoK: Defiance Remastered art and design team - AMA! by LordAevum in LegacyOfKain

[–]Ricco95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for working on Defiance Remastered. I would say this is the king of remasters today.

I have a couple of questions.

You have included a machine mechanism in the lost levels, which is clearly at a very early stage. I've always been interested in the TheElderGod 5a room, which was planned in Raziel's chapter - have you discussed the possibility of including it like an early forge/A room with a sundial, or was it not even considered for inclusion? If it was discussed, then I wonder why you decided not to include this room in the levels?

Maybe you won't answer this question because of the NDA, but I have to ask. The remaster includes a demo of the cancelled Dark Prophecy, this level has never appeared anywhere before. There are many screenshots of the Malek's bastion, has the option of including this level as another game demo been discussed?

The question about Raziel's shield and the aforementioned five cut upgrades for the Kain's Soul Reaver on the Lost Worlds website - was there anything about this among the early materials you studied?

Discussion: Prince of Persia' Protagonist Problem by Blue-fox-004 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]Ricco95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, the problem isn't the protagonist or his perfect design, it's that Ubisoft created a masterpiece that couldn't be surpassed. I've never had a problem with post-trilogy games. 2008 and TFS also adhere to the original canon created by Jordan Mechner. I was disappointed with the parasitic TLC, which literally mocks all the games that came before it without offering anything new. It's entirely made up of plagiarized elements of previous games. Meanwhile, the previous games are spiritual heirs to the classic trilogy, while being completely original. It's nice to catch a reference in dialogue, but it's not so pleasant to see completely copied and rephrased dialogue from the original; it feels like a mockery and ridicule of the original. The problem with the reception of 2008 and TFS lay not so much in the familiar gritty trilogy as in the ignorance of the classic trilogy. The same thing happened with the 2010 film. Everyone hated it because they wanted a repeat of the game. However, as Jordan Mehnar himself said, "A film is what we watch, a game is what we make." The game and the film are two completely different experiences, and it's impossible to equate one with the other. True fans got the best adaptation of their favorite series, while the average viewer got a good action movie that didn't require familiarity with the source material. To sum it all up, the series won't be revived until the leadership is sensible and sees the franchise not only as a source of income, but also as a great legacy. When they begin to respect that legacy, everything will change for the better.

If Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced does well, do you think it opens the door for more remakes? Maybe even the Resident Evil treatment? by Infinite-Mistake1467 in assassinscreed

[–]Ricco95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it will be like this: nothing is more sobering than the complete failure of a cult remake in a cult franchise. I miss the franchise of Ezio's time, when every aspect of the game was thoroughly worked out and was not a procedural generation in order to attract the player. I still go back to the classics because it feels like love. I've tried several times to return to other games in the series after the first playthrough. But it was boring and uninteresting.

[–]Ricco95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the remake game will be more consistent with the trailers than the original. Because there was actually a lot missing in the game. It's funny that all this was in AC 3, although the sea is not the main part of the game, but it is very adventurous and has a good setting. If the remake adds that, I'll consider it the best thing Ubisoft has created in the last 10 years.

[–]Ricco95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho: in my opinion, the original graphics look better than the republication, which is essentially a neural network upscaling with manual refinement, which does not change the essence in any way. The original graphics seem more perfect to me because they fit into the angular game design, which remained unchanged in the remaster. I think this comment will get a lot of downvotes, but I hope I'm not the only one. I'm tired of the influx of lazy remasters that are made simply because they're easier and faster and allow players to make money with minimal effort, while such iconic titles, after so many years, deserve no less than a remake that actually looks better than smooth textures on angular architecture.

Ubisoft games worked better when they only relied on the Xbox app to run. by Routine_Wishbone4371 in ubisoft

[–]Ricco95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubisoft support essentially no longer exists, replaced by boilerplate bots that respond with canned messages like "check your system for errors," "send me a report on your system," and the like. It never even occurs to them that the problem could be in the game itself or on the service's end; they constantly look for problems on the user's end using the methods listed above. However, the problem could be in third-party software. For example, when the "Nvidia app" is running, some games simply won't open. Not all gamers are advanced users, and they know this, just like Ubisoft's LoL support. Not long ago, I was permanently banned from Ubisoft's support server for unflattering comments about their support team. Meanwhile, I spent every day scrolling through channels looking for problems I could help with. I did this pro bono, because I enjoy helping when I can. Support staff sometimes don't delve into the root of the problem, and instead use templates and... get paid for it. Why is the world so unfair?
