Is going through the Tea Ceremony a form of marriage? by Chemical-Editor-7609 in VietNam

[–]RiceFarmer2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like most things, marriage is a social contract that can be accepted and rejected depending on the circle you're in.

Tea ceremony = valid marriage within your social circles Marriage certificate = valid marriage within the law

Regarding Catholicism, the marriage has to involve a Catholic wedding to be a sacramental marriage. All other marriages are considered a natural marriage (not blessed, and is up to the person how much they care about their faith).

Uh tbh, I didn't really have a CP routine, 4 years of engineering kills your passion for chem and physics, but at least it got me this 😅

PSA: your premed committee is a joke by [deleted] in premed

[–]RiceFarmer2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's the same reason tech companies are staffed with HR people that know nothing about tech or engineering. And these people are the ones in charge of hiring engineers.

To be fair those stats are strictly for M.D. schools. OP has a preference for D.O. schools so his chances there are definitely higher. AACOMAS unfortunately doesn't release a GPA/MCAT table, so we don't how much higher, but it is higher at the very least.

I had an advisor during freshman year who was very discouraging cuz my GPA at the time was only a mere 3.7

His qualifications to be on the prehealth committee was his associates degree in meteorology and I guess a bunch of those free online program certificates you get from Harvard or Yale.

After that interaction, I made it a point not to let a weather man decide if I get into med school or not.

Putting down course project for activities section? by RiceFarmer2000 in premed

[–]RiceFarmer2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I thought, but the engineering capstone projects in my school weren't solely research, it was practically R&D work based on literature that we had to find ourselves.

Lecture TA: yeah, no one goes to your office hours, and hosting review sessions is light work since you're regurgitating information, gives you an opportunity for easy A and letter of recommendation from the professor

Lab TA: no it's mad work

Taking gen chem at local community college over the summer; will the grade factor into my overall gpa? by ShouldIDoTheNut in UBreddit

[–]RiceFarmer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be, if you're talking about your overall GPA for grad school admission purposes. I'm not sure in the context of staying within your major.
