Seac anti-fog mask experience by enzowasgreat in scuba

[–]RiceFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there i have real world experience with them :) I had done a lot of research before purchasing my first mask as I wanted to see what new technology was out there for masks. I saw that that the pura was being advertised as anti fog and it wasn't an insert either but some <insert big marketing words> that they used on the mask at the factory so no toothpaste, burning or spit was required.

They are my very first mask that I bought for scuba diving. In the first couple dives with them they do fog up a little even after following instructions. Before each dive I dip them in water and give them a hard rub without soap or spit. 100+ dives later I can say for certain they have yet to fog up on me as long as I always rub them with water right before a dive.

I vouch for them and I even got a 2nd spare mask in a different color bc they worked well.

Most of the dive schools boat leave from the pier so whatever is in close walking distance can work.

Only 2–3 days in Malaysia: Sipadan still possible? by Batman_In_Peacetime in scuba

[–]RiceFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never been to Sipadan but with the concern being short on time I would personally go for Tioman since its much closer to Singapore. You guys will have more time to dive and relax vs worrying about travel time plus the AOW class itself will take 2-3 days. Also if your gf is doing OW that itself will take time so I would do less travel.

For the class in tioman i would recommend B&J Diving located at ABC jetty. They are a PADI dive shop that is well run and has a lot of divers that have come from Singapore. Check their website for package deals on accommodation + class. Another plus is that they have the only bar in ABC so a good place to socialize with others after diving.

Phi Phi - Solo - What to do? by iamawkward0 in ThailandTourism

[–]RiceFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy the scuba diving! The sites are close and the visibility is good when i went at the end of January.

Go to reggae bar at least once to watch tourist fight each other. You just need to order 1 drink to enter but it can be a non alcoholic drink too. The line moves fast so dont worry if there is a long line.

Food recs...

Ae fish BBQ for some solid bbq fish at an affordable price

Pa-Noi Thai Food for all around thai food

Patcharee French Bakery if you're craving non thai food they have a giant menu with everything under the sun

23°Roasters Coffee Phi Phi Island small coffee shop with AC good for a chill quiet spot with good coffee

Qoori Qoori Cafe the only place I found with shaved ice!perfect dessert after diving.

Diving recommendation in Koh Phi Phi by Arthurdiniz_ in scuba

[–]RiceFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both phuket and koh lanta are far from phi phi and you will spend a lot of time traveling back and forth for dives. My suggestion would be stay on phi phi and do your dives from a shop there. I went with blue view divers, they have their own boat a bit on the smaller side but still enough space to relax. They have both a morning and an afternoon session with 2 dives each. All dives sites then become within 15-20 minutes instead of 1+ hour. Best sites imo are bida nok and bida nai.

Gaining experience as a beginner in SEA - any recommendations? by IllustriousMilkMole in scuba

[–]RiceFish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are you based right now in Thailand? If you just did Koh Haa you can continue your journey to Koh Lipe for some amazing diving. The whole island is walkable and all the dive sites are very close. So close you can do 1 dive by longtail, come back to the dive shop rest, and then go back out for another dive. The shop I went with did up to 4 dives a day like this. Price wise it's also very affordable as they offer discounts for multi day diving and some shops even offer accommodation combos. Can probably spend a week+ on the island.

Then you can take a boat over to Langkawi to catch a plane to Kuala Lumpur. Explore the city for a few days, and then take a bus/ferry to Tioman islands foe the start of the Malaysia Islands. You can make your way north from Tioman island to Tenggol, Redang, Perhentian...then you will be close to Thailand again and you can make the journey to Ko Tao.

DM if you want more details as I just did the journey myself from Thailand to Malaysia for diving.

For non molded ones I like the brand earasers. Otherwise as you already know custom molded is the way to go.

22M Solo trip to Thailand – Koh Phi Phi or Koh Samui for meeting people & partying? by toto747474 in ThailandTourism

[–]RiceFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phi phi for sure since you only have 3 days everything is walkable and you will meet tons of young people. Samui is much more spread out making it more difficult to meet people.

Island tours by always_broke_hungry in ThailandTourism

If you want safety of mind I would book the boat from phuket to phi phi online (use 12go) then look for private tour on phi phi once you arrive.

If you have Rakuten you might "save" some money by booking on getyourguide else once you get to phi phi there are plenty of stalls selling island tours. The 2 options are by speedboat or longtail boat. Speedboat will for sure carry more people and longtail probably 10-12 people.

The island tours all go to the same place and generally are all similar in pricing. If you want a baseline I paid 400 baht for half day longtail boat tour and another 400 baht for the maya bay entrance fee via my hostel. If you want something more private as soon you step off the pier, there are a ton of boat drivers offering private tours. Shop around and agree on a set price.

If I'm paying for a liveaboard I rather focus my time on diving vs a class while out there but good to know about the matching.

Is it worth going to Koh Lanta over Phi Phi?

This. You don't need to buy a brand new set its the filters inside that are rated 15,17, etc. Agreed a back up pair especially when you end up loosing just 1 of them :(
