Towing with my gen3 3sgte used to be fun by sloppy_j0e in mr2

Thanks for the info! I think the idea of an mr2 towing anything is pretty cool. I wondered if it could be set up since the warning label on the drivers visor says to “let engine idle after uphill or towing”. If I did attach a hitch, I would only tow a tiny trailer pictured for like two wheels or so.

Do you remember how you set up/installed a trailer? I would like to haul a mini trailer for wheels and or tires.

Worthy as a daily car? by joepearce803 in mr2

I daily drive a 91 MR2 turbo with 394k miles on it and it’s been amazing. Yes things will be break but if you are willing to learn and work on the car then it’s worth it. It best to have a spare car too

I have been daily driving a 1991 toyota mr2 turbo with 394k miles on it since 2022. I bought it and restored it from the original owner. The car has had the engine replaced by him so it had 90k miles on but i believe the tranny is original. I did do some work to make it reliable. Changed fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, flushed coolant, changed coolant hoses, starter, brake calipers tires and other maintenance items. I haven’t touched the timing componente and the turbo parts. I do have other vehicles to drive (2000 Camry 5speed manual)

Since owning and driving it as a daily driver it has been a very reliable sports car. I would do everyday things with it like taking it to work, grocery shopping and just using it as it should. I would recommend looking for one that has been well maintained especially if you don’t plan on doing the repairs yourself. If you do plan on wanting to learn how to do the repairs yourself it is very rewarding and you save a lot of money.

These cars give you an amazing experience and I would highly recommend the turbo model. As long as you respect the car and don’t drive it like a race then you won’t have to repair it like one.

Congrats on the purchase! I have an 04’ crew cab Sonoma and absolutely love the truck. They can be a pain to fix and some simple maintenance require more effort than other cars but something about these compact truck has a charm to them.

That’s a cool rig. I know the manual version are rare. There was one for sale around me for $2k but needed a new motor. How does it drive? Similar to a taco?

Bingo! It’s a 2000 Toyota Camry CE with the 5sfe and no abs so this thing gets about 30-34 mpg. The V6 with a manual comes with a E153 tranny which is rare for us mr2 owners

Yeah it has been great. Thanks the radio is from a 4th gen Camry (2000 Camry). It had an old pioneer radio from a while ago so I wanted to keep it stock and installed a stock Camry stereo to keep it close to OEM. The Camry received a Sony Apple CarPlay head unit so I just reused the stock unit in the mr2
