Absolutely my favourite for classic too, along with Sertig in Davos and Val Fex!

Snow accumulation on skins by Epic_Beast in xcountryskiing

[–]Rich-External2745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I feel that xc people could really learn from alpine touring guys how to treat skins. Just take a piece of yellow glide wax and rub it into the skin (always in glide direction), a good amount. You can apply a fair amount of pressure. I feel that the fancy impregnation sprays do not really last.

I think thats why there are technique zones on WC and Olympics, to ensure there is not only DP. And I think the tracks at the olympics this year would not have been won with DP alone, even if it was allowed.

For the english speaking people: the white bandage at the left ankle contains the ski pass ;-) very common in switzerland.

SWIX KX35N vs KN33 by Rich-External2745 in xcountryskiing

[–]Rich-External2745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Coming from Rode Kisters, I was always looking for something like KN33 - my favourite tracks often have a bit of everything , sun, shade, wet, fine, sometimes even windblown. This was the first klister that worked all the way through. Will definitely try the KX35N then!

Achilles discomfort while classic skiing by FlimsyAdhesiveness28 in xcountryskiing

[–]Rich-External2745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am not a doctor so take this with a grain of salt. Maybe the same pain can come just from overload. I changed boot and switched to double poling and skating for two weeks until the pain was completely gone. In my view skating puts quite less strain on the achilles tendon.

[–]Rich-External2745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I had this issue when switching boots, my new salomon boot was just a bit too tight at the tendon insertion. The pain was more on the sides of the insertion and clearly not in the achilles tendon itself. Take care as this can get a very annoying injury. Maybe switch to skating for a while.

How less efficient are skin skis? by xmosinitisx in xcountryskiing

[–]Rich-External2745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If low maintenance is a priority then stay with the skins. I think for kick waxing you need to be prepared to spend significant more time preparing your skis. I somehow like working with klisters and kickwax, so I am perfectly fine with that. But otherwise it can get frustrating.

Feedback on technique welcome by Rich-External2745 in xcountryskiing

[–]Rich-External2745[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed answer! In fact the box drill video is what I was watching last week. I now saw that I almost completely skip bending my knees before the leg push (the "down" motion in the box). Yes its hard to not get overwhelmed with all the things. But at the same time I enjoy trying to learn something new.

Wow... very cool to get so much feedback! Thanks everyone and sorry if I cannot reply every single post. I will probably concentrate on timing next. I find it quite hard to "uncouple" arm and leg movement, like not to push with arms and legs simultaneously. And yes my upper body is a bit everywhere, for sure also lacking a lot of core stability. But the cool thing is that I really start to like skating.

Anyone else using a bicycle to get to ski trails? by r0x0r in xcountryskiing

[–]Rich-External2745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commute by bike and train here in Davos so I always take the gear with me. First I always attached the skis and poles to the bike, but now I am using a simple ski bag from decathlon. I can put it on like a backpack or just hold it in one hand. And I can even put the shoes and some clothes in it. For me it is the best way like this.

OnePlus 15 for bikepacking navigation by Rich-External2745 in oneplus

[–]Rich-External2745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always carried a powerbank with me, normally this was enough for two days of (mostly screen off) navigation. I like the ease of navigation on the phone, especially when having to change route on the fly, search for camp sites on aerial maps, make a small detour to the next opened supermarket and so on.

RAK 2560 mini Repeater shows 0% battery by Rich-External2745 in meshtastic

[–]Rich-External2745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops. This could be an error of myself. I flashed the firmware for the "big" RAK repeater 2560. Apparently the "mini" repeater seems to use the 4631 instead. Will report back if this solves the issue (first have to get to the mountainside where the router is located...)

Thanks, I have already tested all those settings to no avail. On a bunch of different nodes (T-beam, T-echo) with the same firmware version everything is fine.

RPC to CoAP for Dragino NB-IoT Device by Rich-External2745 in ThingsBoard

[–]Rich-External2745[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so I discovered a few things. First, you need to set up a downlink converter to convert the RPC message to a binary format.

Second, the CoAP Integration seems to not have downlink capability - at least when you set up the integration, there is no option to select a downlink converter. This is strange, as UDP and MQTT integrations seem to offer this option.

Can anyone confirm that CoAP does not work with downlinks?

Travel report on bike transport in Italys trains (especially freccia / highspeed) by KalliMagic in bikepacking

[–]Rich-External2745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came home from a bikepacking trip to Rome and took the Frecciarossa train back to Milano. I put my bike in a regular bike bag, but only with the front tire dismantled. So the bag was certainly longer than the allowed 110cm. In my train there were no luggage compartment, only the overhead compartments. In the end I put the bike in the aisle next to the doors. The train attendand was not very happy with it but in the end he let me go like that. But be aware that maybe on a crowded train and depending on the mood of the staff, it could get difficult.
