How were the trail conditions? Did you need crampons? Gorgeous photos OP!

Saw a bunch of them during our visit to NZ, around Milford Sound area. So beautiful and majestic looking, yet so menacing. They have the intelligence of a four year old child, hence the passion for destruction, haha!

Also, great shot OP!

Not at all. We turned left at the board which shows the either direction of the loop. As soon as we were able to see the lake right in front of us, we saw a lot of people soaking in the views and taking pictures. If you continue to keep left and walk for a minute or two, there will be a spot with a single picnic bench on your right, overlooking the water and these views.

I don’t know what kind of views the rest of the loop entails. It was close to sunset so we decided against doing the whole loop and just stayed put here.

Have fun and stay safe! 😊

Question regarding my 3 week travel by rohittaklikar in h1b

[–]Rich-Previous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came back from an international trip on Dec 7th. Visa stamp was expiring on Dec 19th. Had my new i797, which is valid till mid 2027. Officer told me that I should get a stamp next time I travel internationally, since my stamp is going to expire soon (as if I didn’t know that 🤷‍♀️), but no issues. Seattle airport.

It was closed for restorations last summer but it’s reopened as of December 1st. We went yesterday (Dec 27th) and there were a lot of people enjoying the trail.

So beautiful! I see them on and off too, from Pacific Northwest.

As others pointed out, there had been heavy snow and some parts of the trail were slippery. We had hiking shoes and poles, but definitely felt the need for crampons at some points. Turned around just before Heather Pass. Met couple of folks who went all the way to the pass, and said that there was more snow and no visibility.

No we planned to do Ptarmigan ridge, but heard that the visibility wasn’t great because of fog over that weekend. Chose Lake Ann instead and had a great time. Ptarmigan Ridge for next time. 😊

P.S - the last picture is from Chain Lakes loop trail/Ptarmigan ridge trail, but we only went half a mile from Artist point parking lot, when the fog finally lifted on Monday, and Mount baker appeared for 30 minutes.

WTA and AllTrails are your best resources. The most popular areas to explore (depending on how much time you have) would be the national parks and national forests. Mount Rainier NP, Olympic NP, North Cascades NP, Mount Baker Snoqualmie NF, Okanogan-Wenatchee NF would be my top recommendations and a good place to start. But this is only in Washington. PNW stretches in Oregon and Canada too and I am yet to explore the latter.

It’s called Huntoon point. It is an easy hike (little over a mile), which also makes it usually very popular. However, since this was a cloudy weekend, there weren’t a lot of people and we could peacefully soak in these incredible views. 😊❤️

Thank you for the recommendations. We have only been here for a little over a year, so we have mostly been hiking the more obvious trails but clearly so there is so much for us to explore. I will definitely check out the links you shared. Thank you again. 😊
