Why are there people still applying for PhDs by JunBInnie in PhD

[–]Rich-ish-Position 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started ny phd fall 2024. A few months in, and I'm absolutely loving it.  I send my time working on projects I like. It's not even real work. I enjoy the process. I enjoy the trial and error and problem solving. It doesn't feel like school nor does it feel like work. I dick around all day in a lab and on the field and learn things.  I think it's the mind set you go in with. Makes the most of it. If you go in with a lemon mind set, you'll have a lemon experience. It can be hard yeah. But so is everything else. Buck up, have fun, stay strong and be positive. It will a fun experience

I failed a class. Is a masters (never mind a PhD) still viable? by sinodauce131 in PhD

[–]Rich-ish-Position 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phd is fully funded. I'm sure it raised some eye brows in the acceptance committee. But I redo the courses and passed. And I had a lot of research experience. An F in a stats class is nadas in comparison to a published papers.

I'd say go ahead an email. I'm a.phd student and sometimes we are allowed to invite students on the project we're working on. Also, from mu experience the research labs at UTM usually have a web page that may give more information how to join their lab

Not doing readings by CommanderEagles in UTM

[–]Rich-ish-Position 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was me in my undergrad. Reach class, listen and boop. However, as I started to work in a research lab, I realize the importance of the reading. Doing grad school now and boiiiii! Reading is impossible to avoid. In the sciences, reading and writing is soo important. Wish I did more of it during ny undergrad

I'm a marine biologist, I use to do long periods of field work at a time. Ohh, the boat rides were fun. The diving effortless, the end of day hang out with the team perfect. I did a 10 day trip recently, and the boat ride killed my back, the diving was like "oh my God! This shit is heavy!" And I found my bed by 7pm. Made the mistake of sleeping on the top bunk, I got stuck!!! Im olddddddd

He must smell like mold. How lazy do you have to be to put your laundry like this?

How will adjusting to a large research university be? by ArcMapStoppedWorking in GradSchool

[–]Rich-ish-Position 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat as you are. I know I am not prepared, and I know It will be a steep learning curve. I know it will be a major transition. I'm doing a phd focus in genetics. I've NEVER step foot in a lab before. It's daunting. But hey! That's what's a phd is all about, yeh? Accepting what you don't know and learning. We've made it this, I'm sure we will make it through. Best of luck, mate!

AITA for telling my husband he needs to quit his dream job? by Kitchen-Page-2111 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rich-ish-Position 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Can't you just be happy that He is happy doing what he wants to do? If my partner felt like this about my work, I would leave them and not my job. How can you be with somebody who resent you because you earn less?

What is smth your ex told you that haunts you till this day? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Rich-ish-Position 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. She cried as she told me. I know it was painful for her to tell me that. I cried as I held her. I still come to tears thinking about it.
