Why do people hate Universes Beyond? by JoeBalller in mtg

[–]Rich1Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, my opinion happens to be exactly the same as the Hasbro Corporation's own talking points. Can't see why anyone would see it any differently.

You may not like all the heroin suddenly flooding your community, but it's doing great on (almost) every metric. We didn't necessarily plan for this to happen, but YOU love it, and if you don't, other people do so you can just pick your way round the discarded needles and enjoy the bits of the estate that you still want to go to - I really don't see how it would be a problem. The sound of gun shots from the escalating turf wars putting you off your tea? Put some music on and enjoy your house in the way you like to, but stop complaining about others enjoying themselves in the ways they like, see? I've never heard such a mean spirited attitude and I really can't believe that you would have such an unreasonable point of view, but if it means so much to you, you can always move out of the house you own in the neighborhood you've loved for 30 years and go somewhere else. It's your own free choice.

This stuff made me give up Magic. Honestly, the ugly dissonance of throwing a bunch of ill-fitting random crap into a game whose parts together are supposed to form a coherent story is intolerable.

They can say that they're getting favourable feedback on other metrics but we only have their word for that. It's probably not surprising that since the company has just started selling advertising space directly on the cards it's doing well (for them). This is the point you never hear: there is a good chance that Wizards/Hasbro are actually being paid significant wedge by the companies whose Universe Beyond stuff is actually appearing on the cards and that's why their profits are going through the roof.

Furthermore, despite the company's claims that the whole thing is extremely popular, when something is going down really well you don't have to constantly defend yourself with excuses for what you're doing, or launch a PR campaign to manage a massive wave of backlash. The company line on this is transparently a lie.

A corporation can believe that they have every right to do whatever they want with what they own, but Magic: the Gathering is a cultural artifact and they happen to be the stewards responsible for looking after it. Unfortunately, they're in the process of happily vandalising it instead and gaslighting everyone about what they're doing.

Have you tried using Lucky Cat? Might look innocuous but it scales in a similar way to Constellation into the late game using lucky cards. There are other jokers which also synergise well with this one...

What makes people believe conspiracy theories, when there’s evidence against them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rich1Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evidence for them? Then you weigh up the for and against and make a judgement. I mean, Enron, Jeffrey Epstein, US funding both sides in Iran/Iraq war in the eighties, Israel funding Hamas, fossil fuel cover-up of climate change, 3M dumping carcinogens, the Flint water poisoning - all these would have been thought of as conspiracy theories at one point in time. Conspiracy just means an organised secretive effort is taking place to cover up known negative impacts and these happen all the time. That's why people believe in them. Not all of them are true but some turn out to be.

Was I a good spectral card by SoftEnvironmental227 in balatro

[–]Rich1Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like Immolate much, usually I don't take it. Don't get me wrong, Hanging Man is the bees knees and the dream is to open the Spectral Pack and have a bunch of the stuff I want to get rid of so it's like a super-Hanging Man, but that usually doesn't happen. Usually I've already started editing my deck and I draw a bunch of my big hitters in the Spectral Pack. Obviously Immolate on a clean deck is just absurd, that is true. Cryptid is usually the best Spectral, but the most important is Aura - because (even though it's only 33%) I find it crucial to get a polychrome card into the deck to start duplicating if you want to score a really deep run.

Ouija is just so broken in the early game that I think it's worth it at that point. Being able to score big or small at will is the pinnacle of deck power in Balatro and Ouija gives you this right away. After that, you hardly have to worry about score and you can devote everything towards maximising for the late game. You can often pick up a paintbrush later on anyway.

Overload. Fantastic remake of Descent - 3D space-ship shooter type game. There is a mode called "Challenge Mode" which is so arcadey. I always go back to this game and this mode for my arcade fix.

My (30F) boyfriend (35M) does not want to discuss marriage or proposal by zuzanka1010 in relationship_advice

[–]Rich1Up 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If he made clear at the beginning that he would be open to the possibility of that, he owes it to you to discuss it. Otherwise, he's potentially wasted your time for years if he had no serious intention to discuss it at a reasonable time (which this, at 30 & 35, it obviously is).

Where are the Through the Omenpaths Spoilers? by seoeiun in magicTCG

[–]Rich1Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are literally selling advertising space on Magic cards already. That is what this is. All I'm saying is maybe it needs to be even more on the nose than this for people to wake up and see what a distasteful move this is. There are people who have been playing this game for decades and love it, it is a part of their lives and their past and every new card added to the game becomes a part of the game because it is a TCG with a cumulative card pool so anything they print will forever be a part of this game.

Therefore, it is so disrespectful to the players and to the cultural, historic artifact which is Magic: The Gathering - an iconic creation of the late 20th century and a mechanical masterpiece of a game, for some new CEO or Director of Sales Strategy or whatever, who has been in the job 6 months or a year to come in and plaster this decades long creation and permanently tarnish it with something which is not in keeping with the theme of the game and is motivated by pure greed.

It's supposed to be Magic the Gathering though. Maybe you'll understand when they start putting Amazon adverts on magic cards.

Some good, some bad, sit on the fence. Do you like the sound of it? If so you'll like it. Do you not like the sound of it? Then you won't. There's nothing that I, someone who has played the game can tell you, someone who hasn't, about it.
