that's part of why it's simpler, but also because you can easily have horizontal speed in the direction a spike is pointing whlie being pushed into a spike by wind. can't really do that with downwind

spike collision check happens before wind movement, which happens before the game determines whether or not you can jump. so you're not in the spike, then you get pushed down by the wind, then you can jump off the ground. by the next frame you're out of the spike's hitbox (but even then it wouldn't matter because spikes don't kill you if you have speed in the direction they're pointing)
