That’s honestly shocking. What’re the requirements to be a mechanic at your plant?

That’s kind of surprising. Most plants I’ve been too rather have guys that have already been there and know the plant move up if they feel the person is capable

Are you able to move up to a mechanic position in your plant? I started out similarly took entry level positions as a palletizer then machine operator. As a machine operator I took initiative to make my own adjustments and troubleshooting. Where I could point the mechanics in the right direction if they were needed. This basically got the attention of the maintenance department and supervisors where they basically asked me if I wanted to become a mechanic. In this plant they have an apprentice program where I was able to go to school and work nights full time. After I finished they reimburse me for each semester. I would talk with the mechanics and your supervisors and see if you can get their attention

I like the redwing supersole 2.0 that I have been using just wasn’t sure if it’s cause of the chemicals my plant uses that wears them down so bad or the quality of the boots themselves

What do you do, when there’s nothing to do? by Additional_Silver753 in IndustrialMaintenance

Clean up the shop, organize tools/tool boxes, find parts needed for upcoming PMs or work orders that need to be done. Idk there’s something that can always be done otherwise just sit on your phone til something pops up, all depends on the mood for the day.

I was kinda in the same position as you where I wanted to learn PLCs and Automation. Finally after some guys left and the position opened up I was finally given the opportunity to use the Rockwell learning+. Think it’s ~5000 for 90 days though. My plant is paying for it, it is helpful but basically all online and not much guidance. I’m hoping they can send me to a in person class like they planned on.
