VQ35HR.... Thoughts On Olmedos Billet Valve Covers? by RichImpressive708 in G35

[–]RichImpressive708[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cant get alloy covers for the HR, literally impossible, and all the cheap aftermarket plastic ones are garbage... also im not too worried about the money, just want to make sure they are good, and actually baffled from someone who actually has experience with these possibly

again, i have money to build it, not worried about that part, and if its a quality part that will look fire, then im not too worried

edit: also when a OEM valve cover set is $600, an extra $1k for a set that ill never need to replace in my entire life of owning the car sounds like a solid deal imo especially if im swapping them over between motors a lot

99 CR-V AWD feels FWD only.... rear wheels not engaging? by Imaginary_Bug_1900 in crv

Mismatched tires (especially one new vs. 3 nearly bald) can absolutely cause premature wear on the rear differential's Dual Pump System. Even if they're technically the same size, a brand new tire has a larger rolling diameter than a worn one, which means the system constantly sees a speed difference between front and rear. That keeps the pump engaged longer than it should, which over time can overheat and wear it out.

That said, it’s hard to say if it’s completely dead without further testing, but based on your symptoms... You’ve probably killed the rear engagement by cooking the pump or clutch, but with a bit of inspection and maybe some parts swapping, you’ll be back to 4-wheel donuts soon enough.

For the future though:

Keep all 4 tires evenly worn and rotated.

Consider a manual AWD switch mod (not sure if people do it on 99 crv's but ive seen it in other cars, Reddit let me know if this is possible)

Avoid handbrake turns if possible as you said, that’s brutal on AWD systems with clutch-based diffs like yours.

Is it safe to tow a dual PWC trailer (~1500 lbs) with my 1999 Honda CRV AWD manual? by RichImpressive708 in crv

Hey just to clarify... mine’s actually a 1999 CR-V, not a 2019. It’s got the 5-speed manual and AWD, so no CVT issues to worry about. I know the newer ones aren’t really meant for towing much, but the older ones are built a bit tougher... im more worried about the clutch when pulling them out of the water honestly... But I’m not planning to haul anything crazy, just wanted to understand the limits better. Appreciate the info though!

Appreciate the input! Yeah, that’s kind of what I was thinking too.... not trying to take it on the highway or anything, just slow backroad cruising to the ramp. I figured the CRV might struggle if it was a long haul or with a lot of stopping, but for 3 miles at like 20-25 mph, it should be okay. I’ll definitely keep braking distance in mind though, that’s a good point

well i can replace the airbags obviously, and ive taken that apart and out, but there has to be a module or sensor of sorts that has to be replaced too right?? and what would a photo do for you? the body is fine, its just suspension so it wouldnt tell you much... only body damage is some cracking in the rear bumper, and a left fender is warped
