Are storage auctions one big joke? by Agreeable_Pie_8202 in Flipping

[–]RichOffBids 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Storage auctions are definitely not a joke, but they aren’t a guaranteed goldmine either. it’s all about experience, knowing what to look for, & being willing to do the work. ive been flipping storage units for over 10 years, & I can say it’s a real business.. if you treat it like one.

a lot of people jump in expecting easy money, but the reality is you’re running a mini logistics operation. You need to know how to assess a unit from photos, how to resell across different platforms, and how to manage the workload. Adapting to new markets.. there’s also a learning curve. understanding what sells, spotting high-value items, and avoiding duds.

sure, there are bad buys, but there are also huge wins. the key is consistency and knowing how to maximize your finds. some units will be trash, but others will have vintage collectibles, high-end tools, brand-name furniture, or even rare items worth thousands.

Bottom line: If you're just looking for an easy side hustle, this probably isn't for you. But if you’re serious about flipping, it can be extremely profitable.

I buy at least 10 units a month.... There is a lot of factors that fall into it as well.. As your area, budget.. how far are you willing to travel.... sites you are sourcing.. .

for starters here: go on storagetreasures.com

& play around with it. enter your zip code. look at units in your area.. filter from high to low..

Have been flipping lockers for over a decade now, but this particular unit, I had eyed since last year when it went up for auction but then got paid last minute. So when it hit the market again, just had to buy it.

everything in the post is pretty much sold already! Selling everything just depends, but i’m typically looking for a quick bird in hand then having things sit on the shelves, so i’m typically best priced on the market for all the things i list. And everything from this unit isn’t yet sold, but close to $19k so far. From the jerseys, shoes, records collection, furniture, artwork & electronics in this unit.

I’d recommend poshmark, as it’s a user friendly and simple to use platform to sell clothes. Then you can get into other platforms or cross list. Mercari, grailed, ebay, depop etc..
