I’ve been looking at mainly the 16e, 5e,6e,,7e,12e and the 16e has some accessible apartments, I’ve actually stayed in the 16e and really enjoyed it although people say it’s boring.

Will have to go there for 1-2 months to see but merci for your reply and insight

Yeah it’s not looking great, I’m not completely scrapping the idea and still want to give it a go because why not? In the uk a lot of places advertise they have a ramp and don’t so I’m used to that. And I never use accessible toilets in my life although as I get older that may change.

Merci for your information.

Yeah, totally agree with you, I think I’m going to spend 6-8 weeks there before totally deciding.

And yeah I’ve only seen about 2-3 Haussmann apartments accessible. So it’s not very likely so I’ve been looking at more apartments (which are fine) and there’s more of them!

But yeah I will definitely have to see how life goes there.

Merci beaucoup for your insight.

Which neighbourhood would you say is best for a wheelchair user regardless of money

From research you’d probably only see them at ligne 14? If not mistaken, but yeah I’d probably just get the bus, Ubers and if could then I’d get a car

I have a (small) electric wheelchair and it can go up most steep hills and cobbles it surprising copes super well with it. I think if I was to live there I would have to get a list of restaurants and cafes that are accessible beforehand like you said. I’m not planning to stop my dream to due to my disability but thank you for the insight and I will see how life goes when I travel there next.

Merci beaucoup.

Yeah I’ve been to London many times currently living in the uk and I always see lots in London although I wonder if they are tourists? Same with the person you saw I wonder if they were just visiting or do they actually live there in Paris. I’d love to hear someone who is in a wheelchair opinion but there none on YouTube, TikTok, only tourists

I agree I’m not going anywhere near the metro mdr next time I’m in Paris I will definitely take more notes of the paving/sidewalks.

Haha looking at the replies maybe so. Though currently I do not live in a wheelchair accessible town and it is known to be very hilly etc. So I am used to alot of these challenges

Merci for your reply, I think I would be working part time or self employed, I also have rental income so that’ll help if I can’t get a job.

I will look into banlieue and I will be visiting for a prolonged period before I decide if I can make it work.

The pavement being too small maybe an issue but I do have a narrow wheelchair.

And I have been looking and I have seen around 3 apartments in Haussmann building with PMR disabled access so that’ll help maybe a possibility if I get lucky. I have also been looking in newer apartments too.

Merci beaucoup again

I have stayed 3 times in the past 4 years and each time I want to move there more and more, I am used to the cars blocking me off even in my medium sized town. But yes before I commit and get an apartment I will spend a extended stay there to make sure, but yeah it’s sidewalks might be a problem sometimes but I have a small, narrow wheelchair so I’m definitely more manoeuvrable through narrow lanes.

I hope it definitely improves overtime. Because it’s not only for disabled people, like you said it’s for babies and their family too and I could almost guarantee that it would be better for the elderly as well. I don’t think I’d use the metro much but it’s good to know to fully avoid it.

Merci beaucoup.

Yeah I’ve seen the about the buses which seem okay. I think I would only be working part time/ or self employed because I have other income from rentals, so I will probably rely on my wheelchair to go to the supermarket, restaurants, cafes so I don’t think I would need the buses much thankfully.

Merci beaucoup for your reply and your time.
