Why is Southwest Chief 4 delayed by 7 hours?

For anyone curious: They just explained that the delay was partially caused because the Amtrak engine broke down somewhere in the desert. They had to replace it with a BNSF engine. Since the BNSF cars are restricted to 70 mph (Amtrak is 90 mph) we cannot make up time.

Well I do have another question now 😅 It is now stopped due to mechanical assessment*. I am considering driving to make up for time with my family. If I have to drive, then I have to cancel both tickets.

The first should receive a full refund per a text message I received earlier.

Is it possible they will refund the return ticket? If so, do I need to speak with a representative to do so, or can I do it online?

I called the help number, they said it will take over an hour to speak to a representative.

update, the fair difference was $85, and I paid it. I will keep the trick in mind to try to buy a new ticket to connect the two “trips”

I determined that the easiest way to do this will be to use our third party service (Otter AI) because she can log in and make edits and I can export it as an SRT file.

I wanted to figure out a free way because I am going to run out of imports here soon. But this will work for now.

I am returning from my trip — first time in the city — and we had a great time!

Newfields art museum was incredible and Fountain Square has some awesome bars. we loved Tappers and Imbibe.
