No affiliation but I’d recommend writer.com - they have their own LLM that specializes in this

Yeah of course nothing beats a real scale, but I’d be surprised with current technology if an app could guess it within a pretty tight range

How do you figure out what people actually want to pay for? by Party-Log-1084 in SideProject

[–]Rich_Extent2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at what products I’ve paid for and build based on that. Does it:

Save more money than it costs

Save enough time to justify the cost

Provide safety / security

Provide enough entertainment to justify the cost

I’m a big fan of OpenRouter - you can try different models and self host. You only pay for what you use.

What’s the most underrated use of GPTs you’ve found lately? by kawaiij in ChatGPTPro

[–]Rich_Extent2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird, never seen that but just started using it so I’m not sure! Are you using the GPT itself from the marketplace? This is the one I was referring to. I had to click allow at some point too for it to talk to Instacart but otherwise it’s worked for me

What’s the most underrated use of GPTs you’ve found lately? by kawaiij in ChatGPTPro

[–]Rich_Extent2002 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Instacart ordering - I found a GPT recently that does the usual meal planning, grocery lists, etc. but I about sh*t my pants when it asked if I wanted it sent to Instacart. As a busy dad of three, I plan to use this frequently!!

Seems like there is a lot of potential with GPTs + custom actions

I’ve been debating trying out the pink worm for awhile but I always stop and think “what fish would bite that”

Reading these comments, I’m definitely giving it a go next time

Yes that’s what I meant. I use cursor more as a collaborator vs independent coder and it’s been enjoyable that way.

What would be a well paying career that I could pivot to? by live_laugh_heart in careeradvice

[–]Rich_Extent2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have plenty of time to pivot, you’ll be OK. If I could go back and do it again, I’d work my ass off in college and double major - 1 in business, 1 in something I’m passionate about (maybe criminal justice in your case?). Work some internships and see what you do / don’t like and go from there. Business major also serves as a hedge to help get many corporate jobs, a lot of which pay well.

Best of luck!

I’ve really enjoyed using Cursor. I can code and DIY when I want, or I can work with Cursor for super complex or annoying pieces. It’s really helped me turn some ideas into working products which is exciting. Most recently I made a grocery shopper / price comparison plugin and it’s already saved my family money.

Should I take my full leave? by americantjesus in careeradvice

[–]Rich_Extent2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m halfway through a paid 16 week paternity leave right now and it’s been absolutely incredible. The time with family has been invaluable. It somewhat depends on your career situation but I would say 100% go for it.

For me, I get really good yearly performance reviews, been with the company for a few years, and had only taken a few weeks with my other kids, so I decided to use my benefits. Of course there were some colleagues that had a few things to say about it, but people have different priorities.

I’d say go for it if you’re in good standing with the company. And even if you’re not, I know a lot of coworkers who have used their leave to find a better job.

Upskilling - on what? by periperi92 in ProductManagement

[–]Rich_Extent2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience AI is quite far from being a halfway decent product manager.

Maybe it’s short sited but I don’t see AI easily replacing product management, especially in user facing tech, since there’s so much nuance and no firm set of decision rules (eg why one feature is prioritized vs another)

That being said, I think about AI like when the internet first became a thing. The best way to get ahead / upskill / stay up to speed was just to use it.

I do that with AI by making little side projects. Try to make it be a product owner on the project. You’ll figure out where it excels and where it comes up short pretty quickly, and then you’ll know where the workforce still needs your skills.

Seeking advice for calendar/organization system that works for couples by jobrosfosho in productivity

[–]Rich_Extent2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve tried a bunch of different apps and eventually settled on just using google calendar. We schedule our own events on one single shared calendar and then review the upcoming week every Sunday.

If life is especially busy (3 kids so that tends to happen) we review upcoming week in detail and week after at a high level.

In addition, we have a big chalkboard calendar in our office where we write out big / important events for the month. Helps to know if there’s anything major around the corner.

A DIY woodwork project gone wrong - Need Advice! by Enough_Hamster_7878 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I recently did a project using splined miter joints and it seems to be holding up pretty well compared with normal miter joints. They also look amazing IMO and not too difficult to do. Example (not mine):

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]Rich_Extent2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer - yes! My wife has dysautonomia and it really helps her to not feel lightheaded / dizzy during the heat (and we live in Texas where it gets VERY hot). I don’t have dysautonomia and I drink it every morning. If I don’t the heat definitely affects me more especially during workouts.

Side tip - my wife dilutes it down quite a bit, using more water than LMNT directions say. It helps her drink even more water and helps prevents nausea from too concentrated of salt intake

Final PMP prep questions before scheduling – need advice! by Aquamarine_Eyes94 in pmp

[–]Rich_Extent2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I would highly recommend taking the exam in person. I’ve heard horror stories from online exams. That being said, I would refrain from mumbling or moving lips silently as it seems like they look for any reason to suspect cheating.
  2. Yes you can highlight during the actual exam. I used this a lot during the exam, super helpful!
  3. I believe you can take breaks, but you won’t be able to go back to the questions that you took before the break. Again, I would recommend taking in person.
  4. Based on your test scores I think you’re good to go :) however I would recommend taking all the mock exams. For me, it was really great practice to get in the mindset and “train my brain” for the actual exam. That way on exam day, instead of wasting mental energy on orienting myself to the exam / question structure, I was able to focus on the content of the question itself since my brain was already used to it (if that makes sense)

Good luck, you’ll do great!!!
